Is it still worthwhile importing luxury cars from Europe into the UK? 4 Sep 2010 (Ask HJ)
Some years ago I saved a considerable sum by importing a highly specced Mercedes-Benz from Holland. I am now looking at buying the new S-Class with the... -
Who in Leicester can replace my Peugeot 306's off-side driveshaft? 2 Jul 2010 (Ask HJ)
I can't believe that my 2001 immaculate Peugeot 306 is in need of an o/s driveshaft. The car has only done 52,000 miles and I’m the second owner. It’s... -
Ego Integrity V Despair - car styling 1 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I`d been reflecting on whether `oblivion` would somehow have those bug like tiny rear windows too. You know, so that you could peer out the back and watch hell tip it`s con tents into heaven because the designers of modern motors were in there and had persuaded the devil to slope the window lines into a gaping ugly grill that spewed out it`s contents. It`s OK to shrug off the despair though - cos afterall these are only motors. -
Transmission tansition 26 Sep 2009 (Ask HJ)
I drive a Toyota Verso car, which is almost 3 years old. The car has the Multi Mode Transmission (MMT). The car is superb but I have never really learnt... -
Jaguar S-Type 2.7D (04/54) or MB S320CDI (Y/51/02) 22 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I am undecided between the following two cars 1) Y/51/02-reg Mercedes S320 CDI 2) 04/54-reg Jaguar S-Type 2.7D SE auto E320 CDI I believe is still upward of £12,000 even for a 52-reg car. Also, I heard that these early E-Class have fairly troublesome electronics. I am aiming to spend around £10,000 and admit both will have over 100,000 miles. -
MINI Cooper S R53 (2002 - 2007) - Convertable - I am just about to buy one... 7 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Can anyone help me work out the best way to pay for a new Mini Cooper S convertible and how new compares to buying second hand? Dealers PCP? Personal Loan? Leasing? I'm trying to figure out the bottom line cost so I can make a valued decision. A car is going to cost me money so I have been trying to put together a spreadsheet to work out what each option will cost when taking into account all the different variables, interest, depreciation, deposit etc. -
Worthing A24 Roundabout Madman in 1980's 9 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I was out cycling the yesterday near Worthing and it brought about a childhood memory. In the late 70's /early 80's my grandparents would take us to the coast for the day or weekend in their campervan (An old Bedford Dormobile) Does anyone remember a strange old man who used to stand at the A24 roundabout just outside Worthing at the weekends ? -
Mystery smoke - 1992 rover 827 v6 8 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I?ve got a 1992 rover 827 v6 and it?s giving out white smoke (well steam really) at start up. This clears up and disappears completely after a few minutes. The classic explanation is that it?s the head gasket or a crack in the head and it? -

s a twinkle in the contributor?s eye. Of course, you can tell me ?If you don?t like it, you can go away promptly?, but this censoriousness seems to me both a tad frustrating and comical. Move closer to 21st Century Britain (but not all the way)? -
Flawed idea? 17 May 2004 (Forum)
It?s this great new form of transport. You create a vehicle with three or, more likely four or more wheels, and power it with a motor of some sort that, if it?s powerful enough, could make the vehicle travel really quite fast ? -
Kwik Fit Oil Change/Costs/Oil Choice 13 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Not driving a F1 car (only Fiat Brava 1.4) I assume that Mobil 1 is an overkill (car 4 years old) - so imagine that Mobil Super S is the one to use! Having said that there is no mention of Mobil Super S on the Mobil UK website - only Mobil 1. Does this mean that Super S has now been replaced by Mobil 1? Anyone know anything else? -
*Golk MK4 Vibration URGENT HELP required 17 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I took it to VW and they diagnosed it as the passenger drive side drive shaft. I?ve had it replaced but no luck. VW now say it?s the driver side drive shaft but they are only 90% sure it will cure it. If that doesn?t work they say it?s a gearbox strip. Feels like I?m just throwing money at it at the mo. Don?t want to waste any more money replacing parts that don? -
nottingam sacks all traffic cops 22 Nov 2001 (Forum)
But they will only respond, not be on the roads as a visible deterrent to prevent people driving like idiots. Unsurprisingly, riders? clubs have attacked the plan. The BMF?s Jeff Stone said: " It?s a crazy move as cameras do nothing for road safety. We need more police on the roads, not more cameras. -
Mondeo Faults 9 Jul 2001 (Forum)
All was fine for 48 hours, until the alarm sounded continuously for a whole afternoon (I was out, but the neighbour?s felt the need to inform me!). I check the doors, bonnet etc and couldn?t find any obvious faults. Eventually, I removed the fuse to the alarm. Next day, it won?t start ? flat battery, so that?s re-charged. -

Mini Cooper S - Older Purchase Advice 15 Aug 2022 (Forum)
could advise on what may be ok and what is worth avoiding. I am probably looking at pre 2013 Cooper S, so the1.6 petrol with 173ish BHP as I understand that the 2.0 engines were only for post 2013 models. Ideally I would have liked an auto but something tells me that's worth avoiding given the age of the car. -
Toyota RAV4 - Stolen S-Max Hybrid Replacement? 9 Jul 2020 (Forum)
My S-Max Sport Titanium was stolen on Monday, so I'm looking for a replacement and thinking of going hybrid. We already have an older Leaf, so we like electric but it doesn't have the range or capacity to suit as our main car. -
Porsche Cayman S - Intermittent Problem with Brakes 22 Oct 2019 (Forum)
I have a Cayman S which basically has almost zero braking maybe one time in 20. On the other occasions it brakes ok. When it doesn't work properly the pedal stays firm rather than going to the floor but just doesn't slow the car down properly The front discs & pads were approaching the end of their life but there was no odd braking noises / other signs of a fundamental problem I asked the garage to check it out & change the discs & pads. -
