Best Car - Worst Car 23 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Similar threads have been run in the distant past, but now we have some new members, I thought it may be a good idea to kick this one off. Starting with me Best cars I ever owned: Renault 11 GTL 3 Door 1985MY. Reliable, solid, drove well, covered over 40,000 miles in it 5 years. Citroen 2.0 16v Xantia VSX. Excellent drive, very fast and comfortable. I was sorry to see it go. Discovery 200 TDi (current) passes MOTs with style! -
Interest free 29 May 2024 (Forum)
I’ve always liked hot hatches, ask me what my favourite car is at almost any point in my life and a fun to drive yet useful family hot hatch of some sort would pop to mind immediately. Peugeot 306 GTi-6, Citroen ZX Volcane, Renault 19 16v, Renault Clio 16v, Honda Civic Type R EP3, Peugeot 205 GTi, Metro GTi were all a hoot on a twisty B road yet affordable to ordinary folks like me. They weren’t over endowed with too much power, they didn’t come with feel sapping electric steering racks that sucked the fun out of driving. -

Second hand van advice 20 Sep 2024 (Forum)
With fairly decent tidy bodywork but don't mind the odd ding. So it's really down to - Ford Transit, Citron Relay, Renault Masters or Vauxhall Movano. I understand that the Relay and Masters are essentially the same van just with a different badge? And that you pay a little extra for a Ford. I really like the Transits having driven a few but I'm just wondering whether it's worth paying the bit extra, if you get anything more for that such as reliability or cost of parts, servicing etc or whether it's just the name? -
Kia Ceed - Technology and Driver Conveniences 31 Dec 2021 (Forum)
It’s interesting that the manufacturers don’t necessarily follow the good ideas of other manufacturers. When I have driven Renaults the feature where if you squirt the screen wash and there is a few second delay before the last wipe which clears away the inevitable drips from above the screen is not there on the KIA. -
James Ruppert 26 Apr 2020 (Forum)
This week he has written an article about buying a car for the price of an annual bus pass (£625 from memory) but instead of suggesting a list of robust, simple, reliable petrol engined mass produced cars for which parts are cheap and available he’s went off on one with a list of the worst cars you could possibly buy on such a tight budget from a turbo diesel Renault Espace to big BMW’s, Mercs, Jags, a V8 Audi through diesel Volvo estates with interstellar mileages and Saab Convertibles even an Alfa Romeo. It is in fact a list of cars you shouldn’t buy for £625. -
High seating car with low insurance. 28 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Currently drive a renault kadjar on fleet insurance. Hopefully daughter should pass her driving test in a few months. She is 21. My contract at work is due to end soon and due to bad health I might take some time off. I am a large guy width wise with bad back and knees. -
Citroen C4 BlueHDi100 - Potential power steering fault 14 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I have recently bought a C4 BlueHDI100 new from a Citroen dealer simply because it was well equipped, comfortable and had exceedingly cheap finance after all the discounts (what can I say, cheapskate). After having a Peugeot, Citroen and Renault before I've never really had problems. The car has covered 2200 miles in about 1.5 months from new. I have noticed in my last trip to the midlands, the steering feeling abnormally heavy. -
Which of these cheap 90s cars as my first car? 3 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I don't really care about age or mileage (I like old stuff anyway), just for it to be a nice cheap starter with some character. I've gained an interest in the following cars: Renault Clio (1991) Nissan Micra (1993) Nissan Micra (1998) Fiat Cinquecento Toyota Starlet (1996) Vauxhall Corsa (1993) Citroen Saxo/Peugeot 106 (1996) VW Polo/Seat Ibiza (1994) I seem to really like the Clio but the problem is all the ads I've seen for it was the 1.4L model, and I'm looking for a smaller engine that is cheaper to run. -
Need a car with high seating. 12 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Toyota Verso - expensive - holds it value? Kia Carens - small for me Citroen/Renault not fun to drive plus reliability issue have I missed any out? what do you reckon is the best bet? -
3 child seats in back of medium size hatchback 29 Jul 2014 (Forum)
However these offer less protection than high back, or infant 5 point harness. 2. MPVs like Renault Scenics and Citroen C4s have 3 distinct seats in the back so likely to be able to have 3 child seats. But not everyone likes this style of car. 3. I found uncertainty as to whether the more popular medium hatchback cars like Ford Focus, VW Golf, or Opel Astras will allow 3 child seats in the back. -
First fill of biodiesel 28 Apr 2013 (Forum)
A while ago I posted about my intention to start fuelling my recently acquired 525 TD on biodiesel. For those who don't know, I've been using biodiesel in a Seat Leon TDi for a year and in a Renault Clio dci, both with no ill-effects and both from new. Anyway, I had about a third of a tank of derv when I brimmed the BMW with biodiesel for the first time yesterday evening (both fuels are completely miscible), and drove the 50 miles home with another 100 litres in containers in the boot. -
Hyundai Getz - Cheap To Run Small Car Up To 3K? 14 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Or are there any other models to consider, I am really not sure about a Ford either, as my main car a Focus TDCI is starting to rust prematurely, and is also not as economical as some suggest. Is the later K12 Micra really a Renault? I would imagine that a Honda Jazz is out of my budget, again I know little about these but used to have an MB6 Civic and that was a brilliant car. Thanks for any advice. -
Megane Sport Coupe 16V 1.6 - Revs Limited Loss of power 15 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Took it to a second garage and he checked the fuel lines, did engine diagnostics etc but nothing was coming up. Completely clueless as to what this is and I don't want to take it to Renault to have my money ripped away from me. Any help appreciated! Bordtea -
Minicab (RR etc) Scam To Avoid Congestion Charge 5 Nov 2007 (Forum)
"Stop exemptions for minicabs" Jay Nagley, publisher of Clean Green Cars, said it was absurd that a private hire vehicle with a V12 engine does not pay the congestion charge when a family doing the school run with a Renault Espace 2.0T Auto is liable for the full £25 fee. "The logical move would be to stop exemptions for any minicabs that fall into Band G ? that way no-one would have an incentive to register their luxury car as a minicab.? -
Test drives - Availability of lengthy drives. 20 Oct 2007 (Forum)
As once we get these cars we have to keep them for three years, it's important to me that I feel comfortable in it, as it's not unusual for me to do more than 4 hours at a time in the car. I've looked at a few different cars and the manufacturers attitudes have varied wildly. Renault offered me a car for a day, subject to signing up to their insurance. I was in it for 4 hours, no problem. Mazda offered me a car for up to 4 hours, as have Volvo, which I'm driving next week. -
New Square Car for Women 21 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I'm staring at huge golden, elegant serif drop caps that seem to have been lifted straight from Vogue or Elle. By the time you get to the American muscle car feature, they've grown to about 10 cm tall. The Renault article and Bentley article have superfluous drop caps i.e. a large cap plus the first word in full - Nnever Sseen that before. Excessive use of gold, lots of white space and women's typography. -
Cars on the Isle of Wight 26 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Also saw a Humber Sceptre, Rover 80, Talbot Samba Convertible, countless 1930's cars in brilliant condition, a 1950s Alvis Convertible, well worn but clearly in use parked outside the local chinese and so many more esp 1960's cars. Strangely, I saw about 7 Renault 11's although nearly all were somewhat smokey. Lots of 60's/70's Landrovers around and a huge number of 1980's cars that I havent seen since I was a child, yet here they are all collected on this little island. -

Calculating my car loan 15 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Re The final payment of £5440, alternative to this I can just hand the car back and not pay it. However I am sure my Scenic will be worth more than that, unless Renault do a Rover between now and then! Is there anything that I am not thinking of that I should be? If I don't clear this loan with the money, I will probably just be putting it into some sort of high interest account as I don't need it just now.
