Peugeot 406 HDi Brakes 10 Sep 2004 (Forum)
My 406 has covered 73K and has suffered warped front discs almost since new. Tally to date is 7 new sets or disc skims and they are still not cured. 'Repair' lasts 4-5K before they start to go again. I'm not heavy on brakes (70K on my other car and only recently had 2nd set of discs + pads) and I don't keep the pedal down after a hot stop. -
Everyone's favourite German supermarkets 8 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Hope the mods don't mind this, but we've covered this sort of thing before when there's been car specific items. Next week Aldi and Lidl have gone car accessory bonkers in their selection of weekly specials, with the highlight being a handheld satnav type thing at Lidl, although for the slightly tighter budget Aldi will be doing a quality looking chamois leather for £2.99 http://www.lidl.co.uk and http://www.aldi.co.uk No connection, nor endorsement from me although my Lidl tree loppers and bike lights were a bargain the other week ! -
errr! squeaking brakes! \'94 Fiat Punto 18 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I have been told by my local mechanic that the discs are worn out. The pads were recently replaced and the mechanism seems free. The car has covered 61,000 miles and this appears to be early on in the cars life to replace the brake discs. Any ideas or am I resigned to the fact that I have to replace these parts? Many thanks FP -
Passat TDI coolant temperature gauge 12 Sep 2003 (Forum)
My friend has a Passat TDI 115 and has a problem with the coolant temperature gauge. As the car warms up it just comes on to scale and slowly rises just short of normal temperature then quickly falls back off scale and continues to cycle like this whilst the car is running. Definitely no overheating problems and engine management is OK with no faults. -
Cleaning windscreen with potato 6 Jul 2003 (Forum)
cut in half- is it a good idea? What about vinega? Been cleaning a car up for sale, and reduced to using turtle wax bug and tar jockum_what is the best? If i have a car absolutely covered in dirt from years of neglect, what is the best stuff to use before polish (obviously after i wash it). -
Mk IV VW Golf steering 30 Aug 2002 (Forum)
My MK IV Golf 1.6 has always pulled ever so slightly to the left, even since new. Front tyre wear seems Ok and even (have covered 24,000 miles). The left-pull is consistent-happens on any road, any speed. Had steering laser-aligned by VW; they made several minor adjustments but, you guessed it, it still pulls to the left. But driving the car on an area of flat new asphalt car park shows there is no left-pull whatsoever. -
Plastic engines 8 Jun 2002 (Forum)
A quiet day at work, so I've been thinking about the use of plastics in car engines. We now have plastic manifolds, cam covers, throttle bodies and much more, so why not go all the way and mould the engine block and cylinder head in plastic, with metal inserts in the appropriate places? -
USED PRICE 4 Apr 2002 (Forum)
I am trying to sell my Aug 01 (Y reg) blue Fiesta Zetec S with aircon, 6 CD stereo, heated front screen and electric mirrors. The car has covered 5000 miles and has 1 owner from new. What price should I realistically expect if I advertise the car privately, and what figure should I be looking for as a part-exchange. Any advice most welcome. -

Toyota Rav 4 2003 - Heated rear window not working 28 Dec 2023 (Forum)
Checked the fuse which is ok but there is a relay in the system and a cable leading from the main body to the rear door which gets a lot of pulling. The cable is contained within a rubber tube. Is there any common design faults on this car which may help me to isolate the fault please ? Checking the terminals on the window involve stripping the plastic covers . -
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer - BMW 2 series active tourer - reliability 10 Nov 2023 (Forum)
I’m looking at buying a 4 year old 2 series active tourer, and can’t decide between the 2.0 petrol or diesel variant, both automatic, I cover up to 15000 miles a year, quite a lot of short journeys during the week but 2-300 mile journeys at weekends. What would be the most reliable car? Thanks -
Citroen C4 Grand Picasso - Unable to MOT due to mileage display 11 Jul 2022 (Forum)
My car was in for service and MOT yesterday and I received a message telling me they could not do the MOT as the display has a fault that covers the top corner of the last number of the mileage. It will not allow me to post the picture here but the full mileage can be seen it just has a black mark over the very top corner of the last digit but you can see that no other numbers follow. -
Ford Focus Active - 2019 being sold as new 12 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Looking for a replacement car and came across a 2019 Ford Focus Active offered by Yeovil Ford that looks to be unregistered as it still has the factory seat covers and only 5 miles on the clock. It's being sold with 36 months warranty and first MOT due in mid 2024. -
Ford Focus 1.5 Diesel ST line. 2019. - Clutch pedal. 16 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Hi, I’ve just bought the above vehicle and there is a weird step at the end of the clutch pedal travel. The car has stop/start and only covered 3000 miles. Does anybody know if there is a return spring modification kit, or any ideas. It’s almost like there is a really high tensioned spring on the pedal which causes moving of tricky. -

BMW 318D - Thinking of buying 318d - What to look for??? 1 Jun 2016 (Forum)
Hi, I have been offered an e90 shape 318d. The owner bought it as an ex-demo car when a few months old, it has has bmw service history up to 2013 then any work was done independently It has covered 150k, what should I be looking out for upon viewing it in terms of mechanical problems specific to this model? -
Not sure what to do next ? 6 Jun 2014 (Forum)
I can't seem to find a way to sort this shift lock from being stuck, without sticking a thin object to it, to unstick it. I called the car delaers where I bought the Qashqai and explained that it needed to be fixed (I assume it's covered under the warranty?), but he said I had to bring it to their showrooms. They are at least a 2 hour drive away. -
Seat Ibiza ST 1.2 tdi Ecomotive - How long will the engine last? 5 Mar 2013 (Forum)
How many miles can I expect the engine to last as it's only a 1.2!!? I get the car serviced at the correct intervals at the supplying dealer. I've done 50000 so far and cover 600 miles a week on mainly dual carraige way / motorway. Are there any known problems with this engine yet?
