My First Crash 31 Dec 2002 (Forum)
The Sunday Times runs a column for celebs unde rthe above heading. In 197* whilst under instruction in a Morris 1000. I was reversing in a large(almost) empty car park and managed to collide with a lime yellow parked Princess denting my pride and joy.The cause was a large horsefly that buzzed in through the open window (ok it may have been a bluebottle) -
Driven; Axed 20 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Read Friday in The Sun: Channel 4 motoring show Driven has been axed. There will now only be three one-hour specials in the run-up to Christmas. Insiders said that after 100 programmes the decision was made to call it a day. Driven's website hasn't been updated with this info yet, but does state they'll be back on Channel 4 on Sunday afternoons from December 1st. -
water leaks fiesta 1.1 11 Nov 2002 (Forum)
my fiesta 1.1 is losing a large amount of water ,first i thought it was the radiator but when running the engine the water seems to be escaping underneath the fanbet cog, i have also checked the hoseclips to make sure they are secure enough does anybody have any idea what might be the cause of the water loss? -

I know this is not alot, but can anyone recommend a good reliable mid to large family car? (as she has to ferry kids around, school runs and day trips mostly!). I was thinking along the lines of either a Volvo 440 or maybe somthing else of similar size. Thanks. -
Pug 306 1.9 DT 25 Jul 2002 (Forum)
Recently this has been emitting clouds of black smoke and also lacking power. Consumption has gone up, but apart from that runs ok. Could this be injectors or something simple like a split or blocked hose somewhere on the system?? Could anyone out there please help!! -
noisy kseries engine 24 Jul 2002 (Forum)
I'm sure it hasn't got a worn engine but you never know. Other minor problems are that it holds its revs between gear changes and runs quite rough when the choke is on but sweet once warm. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance, Mojo -

Hi Can anyone recommend a quality car for someone who is semi retired that wishes to indulge himself in a bit of second hand luxury :-) I am over 50 and drive infrequently (Shops or the odd run from Cornwall to Kent) Big cars are preferred but my knowledge of BMW's etc is slim. Comments welcome. Budget £10000 Thanks Neil -
Mondeo T-Diesel ..MOT Failure 3 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Hi My 1989 18 Mondeo Turbo Diesel has failed the "Exhaust Analyzer" test for it`s MOT. I`ve been told to take it on a long run , driving it at high revs to "clear the exhaust out". I understand the reasoning behind this , but should I be trying/changing/adjusting anything else to get it to pass? Thanks Chas -
Peugeot 306 Turbo Diesel 20 Aug 2001 (Forum)
I have just travelled almost 3,000 miles through France with no problems, but on my return, my Peugeot 306 has developed a problem with starting. It starts up OK but runs very unevenly for about five seconds. The glow plugs have been checked are are fine. There is no water leak, so the head gasket is OK. Anyone any ideas? -
Fully Synthetic Oil 14 Apr 2001 (Forum)
I've just ordered a new Alfa 147, but the salesman said synthetic oil shouldn't be used until the engine has run in for a while. What would be your own recomendation be for an oil cange schedule on a brand new car? Also, is there a particular brand that is best? -
Courtesy cars 30 Dec 2000 (Forum)
Sounded good but I casually asked whose insurance applied and was told it was mine. But my insurance only covers me for 3rd party on anything other than my own car, so running the courtesy car was a big risk. Is this usual and I wonder if it is generally appreciated? Regards Don -
The best first wheels 23 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Not particularly exciting to drive but look after it and it’ll run and run. A great cheap runabout. Nissan Micra 1.2 K12 - One of the last reliable Nissan’s. Simple and robust yet cute and good to drive these are also cheap as chips now. The 1.0 is ok but the 1.2 is better. -
Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.6i - Airbag light constantly off 9 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I even took my Pug out for a run and have started getting her ready for her 11th MOT because as of March 2014 if the Airbag lights dont work its an automatic MOT failure. My pug has no airbags, no computers, nothing except it runs runs and runs. -
BMW, Audi, Lexus - What to Choose??? 27 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I've done some calculating and over 5 years at about 15000 miles a year all three cars are almost identical in cost, this is taking into acount the cheep is250 but with higher running costs and the higher initial cost of the other two but with lower TAX and running cost. I'm not sure on the Jags and Mercs to be honest as they are more common but so are the audi's. Anyway I think that's enough info to be getting on with, so, what do you think? -
Ford Focus III 2.0tdci ghia - intermittent loss of power 16 Nov 2013 (Forum)
My major concern is that someone may drive into me when this fault occurs as nearly happened on the M8. it has been back to the local ford dealership, (evans halshaw, edinburgh) where they kept the car for a few days, was taken on an extensive road test, everything was "ok",diagnostic testing showed no fault codes. one of the senior techs questioned the type of fuel used,a fuel sample was taken and was given the all clear, the fuel filter was replaced, engine recoded all at a cost to me,the problem still remains. they have suggested that i shouldnt use cheap forecourt fuel, ie tescos etc, i have since switched to Shell. the problem is still there. the car has been back in since then and now they say the fuel is contaminated, which i take exception to, as i have never filled my car with anything other than diesel. i have asked how this may have happened. they have suggested 2 ways. either the car has run dry, picking up the debris from the bottom of the tank, this has never happened or when i have refueled my car the pump that i have used may have been running low and the gunk from the bottom of that may have entered my tank. both of these i think are far fetched. each time a diagnostic test has been run i am charged as no fault is found. even before they claimed my fuel was contaminated there was a fault, it has undergone the same diagnostic testing each time, so how they have decided this all of a sudden is beyond me. -
Volkswagen Eos - Experience of the VW Eos 22 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Actually, I admit that Mr Statham may have already had me thinking along that line:- http://www.audipedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/transporter-3-20081103101900525_640w.jpg The thing that has surprised me is that the fuel economy on the short runs isn't significantly better than the 3.0 Z4, the computer seems to reset each time I drive it, on a short cold start run to work I get about 31mpg, the Z4 averages about 27mpg. Once it's warm however and on a slightly longer run you really notice the difference, it's easy to get the computer to read over 40mpg. -
Nissan X-Trail (2001 - 2007) - 2004 2.2DCi 7 Turbo's, 3 Intercoolers, what do I d 27 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hi, I got bitten by the bugs on the later shape (2004 on) DCi's with the turbo's and intercoolers failing amongst other things. But now my extended warranty has left than a year to run, and the car looks like its going to have another replacement turbo and intercooler, what do I do now because Nissan obviously have not really fixed the problem? At just over 54K miles is it acceptable for Nissan to just keep changing the items until the warranty runs out without addressing the underying cause? -
Toyota Starlet - Coolant temperature sensor and temperature gauge 31 Mar 2022 (Forum)
For the last 18 months of so the MIL has come on from time to time, usually when the engine is somewhere between cold and normal running temperature, but occasionally when it’s been warm for a while. I finally got around to getting a warning code from it, and it came back with 22, indicating an issue with the coolant temperature sensor. -
Jaguar XF - Jag XF - update from private owner after 2.5 yrs 26 May 2016 (Forum)
2.5 yrs later it's on 57k, only issue has been one door lock has stopped joining in the central locking party (a bit like an old Rover SD1). Running Shell Nitro+ UL, urban tootling I see 22mpg (i.e. on the way to/from work plus a drop off at school, includes a bit of m/way) and long runs on m-ways it's settling down about 32mpg @ an indicated ~80mph (speedos overrread of course..).
