Which car to buy? 18 Mar 2008 (Forum)
The cars that I'm considering are as follows:- MG ZT CDTi 04 model on - I like this car a lot, it looks good, drives well (apparently), has the BMW diesel engine but without the BMW problems (failing turbo and inlet manifold). Ford Mondeo TDCi Ghia X 53 reg onwards - love the spec on these following the facelift and I think they're pretty comfortable, tyres should wear slower than the MG, parts will never be a problem but I've heard tales of MAF, EGR and injector problems. -
Newbies New Car Time 9 Jun 2007 (Forum)
i haven't really got any preferences on model or make just that i would like my insurance to be no higher than what it is correctly on the defunked 325i. as i am a tall fella i would like a car that my knees and chin do not make contact in and would prefer RWD(not limited to). im keen on a ford sierra, or rather another one, particularly a 2.0 DOHC 8v as i have experience doing major engine work on one so the "been there, done that" rule applies. also keen on another BMW or a Merc of some sort. something that can be respectable 99.9% of the time but in the right "nobody's about at this time" circumstances will put a smile on your face one way or another. I've about 1k to spend. -
Most Written off car. 5 Jun 2006 (Forum)
The figures broadly reflect the typical shape of the UK car parc, with Ford occupying the top three places, followed by Vauxhall, Rover, Renault, Nissan, Volkswagen and BMW. Ford Fiesta was found to account for seven per cent of all claims during the period, followed by Ford Escort (6%), Ford Mondeo (5%), Vauxhall Corsa (4%), Vauxhall Astra (4%), Rover 200 (3%), Renault Clio (3%), Nissan Micra (3%), Volkswagen Golf (3%) and BMW 3 Series (2%). -

Blackbushe today 3 Jan 2004 (Forum)
This would also be my deal of the day if it sold for this amount as long as the previous owner was not Star Fleet. R reg BMW 328i convertible in green, auto and leather. 84k FBMWSH £9,000 provisional. Very nice condition, worth the money if it sold. S reg Jaguar XK8 4.0 in black, auto and leather. 49K FJSH. Way too expensive at £18,800 and even that was provisional! -
What to buy????????? 3 Jan 2003 (Forum)
(Won test in Top Gear Magazine against Mondeo, Laguna,C5,and 75 all diesel's) Vauxhall Omega estate, CDX, all the toy's you could want, but without leather. Fantastic value! Now started looking at BMW 523i SE, always desired one never thought I'd get the chance to own one. Not as van driver anyway (check my profile). The only thing with the BMW, what would my new boss think? He drives a 2001 Volvo S60 2.4T. -
Bargain Hunt 5 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Well after lots of trawling, I've finally agreed a purchase. I'm getting a beautiful condition 1996 BMW 525 TD. Only faults are partial toolkit and official history stops at 75k in late 1999, although MOT records up to the one done last month show progressive mileage increases. It's not the 145 bhp version, just 115 bhp so it'll be a cruiser rather than a bruiser, but that's all I was looking for. -
Thinking of buying car which had the keyless optio 24 Apr 2025 (Forum)
Hiya As the title states. I've had BMW's for a while all old and the current one is a 2007 car. I've been looking at a Mercedes GLE, 350d. The car was made in 2015, late model, w166, - 135 thousands miles and FSH via various garages and 4 owners. -
Is The EV Dead on Arrival? 31 Oct 2022 (Forum)
I personally have no issue with EVs apart from the ludicrous cost, I currently choose to drive a 3yr old BMW 320i. Those of you who know me will be aware I’m a serial changer but certainly moved away from my once loved Italian marques. Anyway watch the above, it may or may not change your mind. If anyone finds it and is able to post a link please do. -
Mid Large Family Car 17 May 2022 (Forum)
Continuing the old fashioned theme, I'm a sucker for a sunroof, or even soft top. Now the tricky bit; I don't want a Merc, BMW, Audi, Jaguar or any VAG brand. So far, I can think of a Volvo S90 (a bit too big), Kia Stinger (a bit too flashy) or some kind of Maserati / Alfa (a bit too unreliable). Any other ideas please? -
Used family car - ULEZ car buying conundrum 28 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Perfer nearly new to keep up with any likely regs (no more than 3yr old cars). Any recommendations? Current thinking is compact estate and specifically BMW 3 Series (320i) or Audi A4 Avant (1.4 or 2.0 TFSI). Did look at Skoda Superb. Thoughts? -
Rough sounding cars 29 Aug 2018 (Forum)
I've noticed that a lot of modern performance cars sound really rough/noisey. What's the reason for this, has the law or technology changed recently to allow this. eg. BMW M, Mercedes AMG, Lambourgini, Ford ST. I would never buy one of these vechiles simply because the noise is so awful. I would need to always drive gently around town and would never enjoy using the power. -

Ford Focus - £7.5k to Spend - Focus Mk2 or Mk3 Petrol 28 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Hi I'm looking to replace my BMW 1 Series which has low profile tyres and really harsh suspension on the harsh UK A roads on my daily 10 mile each way communte. I've been told the Focus has a good chasis and is better at soaking up pot holes etc. -
Any - Car navigation and infotainment 6 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Please do not tell me that I am wasting my money and should go and buy a new iPhone or Tom Tom / Garmin but your help in adding any knowledge you may have on these systems would be very much appreciated. For instance I know the Larest BMW and MB systems are very good in Professional and COMAND trim and they monitor mobile phone signals for traffic avoidance etc. Any help would be appreciated. -
Audi Allroad, Skoda Oktavia and others - Height of engine air intake 1 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Hello everyone I currently own an E53 BMW X5, bought to get through the regular foot plus of flood water we get outside our house and even up the drive, but am concerned about the poor handling on wet roads and worse still capability on wet grass; I occasionally have to tow in grass fields. -
Mercedes-Benz C-Class - Looking to buy C-Class or alternative 10 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Pretty typical stuff. The C-Class seems to be the leading candidate, I've also looked at the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 as alternatives; as I want to try something other than Japanse (used to own an Accord as well). So basically, a small family saloon. My budget will hold out for anything upto about 7.5k and has to be an Auto (dodgy ankle).
