  • BMW 3 Series Touring - My 11 year old diesel 3 series touring 26 Aug 2019 (Forum)
BMWs are nice but the newer 3 series are even bigger than my E91, which is big enough, and nowhere near as nice to drive. I want something reliable, and Hondas and Toyotas are often recommended as good used buys. Any suggestions for one that drives nicely too?  Alternatively, should I just keep the current E91 and risk something expensive, which sooner or later is likely to write off the car.
  • BMW 3 Series Touring or Audi Q3 - Audi A3 stolen from my drive. Replacement? 28 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Sat in one and loved the dash. However would find them a ittle dull externally and not as exciting to drive at the lower end (which is my price range)   So basically-I am keen to buy the BMW from a reputable online source but need someone knowledgeable to advise whether this would be an unwise decision in terms of costs.
  • Mazda 3 - Slight bouncing / bumping feeling at speed 20 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Everything looked fine when I picked it up, has 10 months MOT with no advisories on recent MOT, 118k miles done, full service history, drives well (or so I thought during the test drive), a couple of minor things that need doing, and there are a few scrapes and dents on the bodywork, but for only £500 I wasn't particularly worried about the cosmetic condition.
  • Any - DPFwhat is it about them 3 Mar 2019 (Forum)
With ULEZ issues aside (I live outside the South Circular and congestion zone) I want to buy a new used van on a 3-4K budget; I currently drive a petrol but theres more diesel vans to choose from. However I don't want to get a diesel if I need to regen the PDF every week; but as I say, I see plenty of couriers/builders ect driving stop start around London who don't have an issue with this.
  • Toyota Avensis - 2.0 vvti dome/central locking 7.5 amp fuse 20 May 2017 (Forum)
Anyway, as in the title, the 7.5 amp fuse which controls the central locking, dome light and radio/computer keeps blowing...I brought a box of 30 fuses for the process of elimination.  Everything is fine until I drive the car. Basically, I noticed that the fuse blows when I turn sharp right. I turn left out of my drive, left at the end of the road and then when I turn right the fuse blows. I've just gone straight out of my drive then done two circuits of the estate but all left turns and everything fine.
  • Volkswagen Passat B5 2002 VW V6 TDI - Cutting out when re started 17 Nov 2016 (Forum)
IE he was driving to work and then driving home in the evening, which gave it time to cool down. Got it back, drove it for a few days. Parked in a car park, went off for about half an hour, came back, drove about 100 yards and it packed up.
  • Toyota Auris Touring Sports - Petrol Civic tourer or hybrid auris tourer 22 May 2016 (Forum)
The other car that we are considering is a petrol civic tourer. We live in Devon and do something like 10k miles a year. We tend not to do much town driving - it mostly rural B roads plus the occasional motorway trip ~1hr and a visit or two to Brittany to visit in-laws. I like the idea of a hybrid using the energy otherwise wasted during braking but: Is it worth it given the we don't do that many miles / we don't do much town driving?
  • X plate Citroen Saxo diesel - 2000 Saxo Diesel cold running 63000 miles 24 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Full history, regular oil/filter/fuel filterchanges. Recent glow plugs and 10,000 miles ago a cam belt and water pump plus a battery. It drives, idles and starts without fault apart from the following fault; when cold it starts first time and ildles perfect , at the moment I have to wait 5 minutes for it to warm up and all is good and I can drive off. if I touch the accelerator before it warms up it stalls and excess smoke due to me trying to restart.
  • Lexus CT 200h - Hybrid Unwanted Acceleration 6 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Hi John In September I purchased on a PCP through the Lexus Finance Group a 12 month old CT200h car. The driving experience was very different however I required an automatic car that had a good mpg so a hybrid with many extras appeared to be a good solution.  I felt that the compromise for its lack of speed was the price I paid for a robust car to tackle the many miles of motorway driving that I endure.
  • Time to start the debate again..driver re-tests... 13 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Also, one's health and living standards (eg. obesity and effects of long term alcohol consumption) can directly affect their driving skills.  This is denting the value of the MOT. Assuming that all the cars I saw driving 'erratically' yesterday were MOT worthy, it meant nothing next to the incompetence behind the wheel.
  • Cost of insuring Young Drivers 29 Sep 2011 (Forum)
The idea of a special new of young driver scheme whereby membership of the IAM or a special body could make a real impact on premiums, rather than the minor adjustment some companies make to date is one idea. Limited use insurances, say for a particular purpose (driving to work) with the benefit of a few thousand miles for Social domestic and pleasure added on). Schemes linked to regular post test driver assessment and revision (say every 3 months for younger drivers then 6 months thereafter) Such schemes would aim to assess and correct driving techniques.
  • 1,000 Driving Tests Result in Nearmiss or Assault 1 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Nearly 112,000 hapless would-be drivers fail their driving tests because they are involved in near misses. Of these blunders which were caused by a 'dangerous fault' - such as failing to judge the speed of an oncoming vehicle - more than 1,000 led to an accident or the examiner being physically or verbally assaulted.
  • Volvo S60 - New Volvo S60 D3 test drive impressions 1 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Just had a new Volvo S60 D3 (the 2 litre 5-pot diesel) on a 24-hour test drive, did around 150 miles of motorway, town and A-road driving. The good: usual Volvo superb front seats (cloth), adjustable every which way. Nice even weighting on all controls, especially steering which has a lovely fluid feel without being overlight.
  • Volkswagen Touran - VW Touran ESP Problem 26 Oct 2010 (Forum)
A few days ago I had the car on some very gravelly roads, and in circumstances where the ESP should have kicked in, it didn't. No flashing light on the dashboard and certainly no change in driving. I had a mate in the car who knows his VW's, and to be honest, we were testing the ESP as I'd become suspicious as to why you couldn't turn the ESP off when pressing the button by the shifter. The ABS works fine, and apart from the ESP the brakes are spot on and the car drives superbly, handles well, etc.
  • Vauxhall Vectra B 1998 unleaded 1.8 ecotec - is car due to go to sc*** heap, misfiring, wont run 11 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Was fixed up to Diagnostic machine. no faults. had this mecanic look at it, said he knew the problem. the clutch was going. £300 later, was ok getting it home, then the same. It feels, when you try and drive it, that the engine is just not getting some thing, fuel or some thing. its now sitting on my drive. when brother borrowed a machine to conect car to, it was saying it could not find the car, check the connection.
  • Renault Scenic - Car died as I was driving it!!! 30 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Hi ya, Was just wondering if anyone could help me pls? We bought a renault scenic on 8th may, on the 10th june the car completely died on me as I was driving my daughter to nursery, and so I got towed by the aa to the garage we bought it from. The garage said they would fix the car at no cost to us, so we thought great! A few hrs later we get a phone call from them and they say they won't fix it because debris has hit the drive belt causing it to shred and then b***** up the whole engine.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.8 Revs to 3000 rpm then dies off 15 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Any suggestions welcome guys as I am really out of options now. The dealer has basically thrown the towel, either claiming that there is no trouble at all, driving it and saying that the car drives fine, or else asking me to leave the car there indefinitely until they find a fix...and I get to pay for goodness knows how many hours of labour.
  • Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 04 1.6 Worse than expected 1.6 HDI Economy 25 Jun 2008 (Forum)
The 307's computer tells me I'm averaging 56-57MPG & I'd be very happy with that, but on measuring what I'm putting in the tank, it's only 48! Exactly the same driving profile as the 306. I tried driving extra-economically on a long round trip of 1700 miles & whereas the 306 would easily have done 55 driving like that, the 307 was still below 50. Couple of curious things to note.
  • Magic roundabout/bad music for driving 4 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Received this morning my CD "Transitions: Soothing Music for Crying Infants" ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00000IKGP/ ) for my baby daughter to get her to sleep. Written on the back "WARNING: DO NOT PLAY WHILE DRIVING". Just the thing then for our drive to Whipsnade this morning. Only somewhat soporofic, though I decided to avoid the M1, because I was worried about delays from the roadworks, and it probably didn't aid my comprehension on our diversion through Hemel Hempstead.
  • American Road Trip 27 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Driving through the valley with the top down was a magical experience! We then stayed in Oakland and took the ferry into the city from Larkspur, finishing off by driving over the Oakland Bay bridge in Friday Rush hour.
