  • Croydon Motor Show 30 Jul 2006 (Forum)
The Nissan 350Z is the best looking non exotica car, full stop. 5. The Honda Civic is a corporate catastrophe. 6. The new Citroen Executive barge is hideous, beautiful and utter madness all rolled into one. "£37,000 OTR. What will it be worth in 3 years time?" "I haven't got that information sir". 7. VW Golfs have cheap and nasty interiors . 8.
  • C5 HDI - Turbo pressure too high! 11 Mar 2006 (Forum)
There has been a whining noise on over-run, best heard when stationary with the bonnet open, the noise has existed for a year and was queried twice while in warranty. The dealer has not yet asked Citroen about a goodwill payment (5 1/2 months out of warranty). If a turbo is producing too high a pressure, what is the outcome of long term use? Would a rubber hose pop off before the engine self destructs?
  • more police vehicles 26 Jan 2006 (Forum)
A few miles later, I'm still behind the marked car, as no-one is making any progress at all; we witness a mobile hazard - a lone Citroen AX in lane 3 of 4 doing 45 mph in a 70, M5 southbound toward J19. What does police car do? Sits in lane one, then lane two, then lane one, this time just in their rear quarter (and I suspect in the blind spot).

And costs. So far I have "definitely" been about to buy (with reasons I haven't in brackets): Citroen Picasso (unreliable?) Mazda Premacy (NCAP 3*) Renault Scenic (unreliable?) Nissan Almera Tino (gut reaction, didn't like it when I met it) Then I started questioning whether we need an MPV and it was: Mazda 323 (safe?
  • Advice re:buying Xantia TDi VSX 24 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Hi there, I am going to see a dark mettalic green '98 Citroen Xantia 1.9 TDi VSX estate, mainly because I want a good size family car with AC for not a lot of money. I have been told be the owner that he has had it from 5000 miles as a company car, and has taken the mileage to 112,000 at wich point he bought it from the company, and got the mileage up to it's present day 140k.
  • Death of my Xantia 11 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I looked after it and servicing was carried by me (well regular oil changes) and the more technical bits by a moonlighting Citroen mechanic which kept the bills down. The car always delivered over 45 mpg and more with careful driving. About 3 weeks ago I was tail ending whilst stationary in standing traffic on the M3. It appears that the car is a write off.It drives fine but the roof is bent and the rear is well buckled.I am now waiting for the offer from the Insurance company of the guilty party.
  • Top 10 diesels on the market 11 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Cons: Top-end 180bhp D5, from £20,795, comes with dull auto-only gearing. Tiscali verdict: 8/10 ---------------------------------- 2. Citroen C4 Picasso On sale: January 07 Pros: At last, you don?t have to drive an MPV and feel like a eunuch. Citroen has over-egged the windscreen omelette with the new C4-based Picasso ? but the result is a widescreen wonder with acres of space and plenty of gallic charm.

  • Help needed with prospective used car purchase 17 Oct 2016 (Forum)
My wife is now getting upset as I started looking again this morning at other makes of car, such as Volvo, and the ultimate sin of looking at Renaults and Citroens (we've had major problems with both in the past). I think what made me start looking elsewhere was I read yesterday that DPFs need to be changed (£3000+) or cleaned (£300+) at around the 80k mark.

  • Toyota Prius - Car Selling Dilemma. Need Advice 14 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Passed my test in June 2010 and went through two cars, both developed costly issues so changed (VW Polo and Citroen C4) Bought a 2008 (58) Toyota Prius T-Spirit in February 2012 for £9000, 30000 miles. Im working through university at the moment and said that this car would keep for a few years. Easily a lot more money than I paid for the other 2, so obviously changing so soon would be costly.
  • SEAT Ibiza ST Reference 1.6 diesel - Fuel economy 2 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Living in Spain, we thought that we would look at the "local" manufacturer but before doing so we hired several cars - Seat Ibiza, Renault Megane, Citroen C3 and C4, Fiat Punto Eco, Ford Focus.  All diesel.  In May this year, after considerable deliberation, we purchased a Seat Ibiza ST 1.6 diesel.  With varied driving conditions - short journeys plus motorway trips of 200kms+, we have used: 40.7 litres diesel over 748 kms; 38.6 litres diesel over 718 kms; 42.1 litres over 789 kms.
  • Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 04 2.0DTi Mod to improve wiper coverage. 13 Jun 2009 (Forum)
This gave me an ideal opportunity to try out a fix for the annoying wiper layout which leaves a 2" area of un-wiped screen on the drivers side which in addition to the wide A pillar means you can miss seeing a whole car at some junctions (unless you move your head from side to side ;) ). What I did was remove both wipers and bent the drivers side wiper in my Workmate (like a Citroen Picasso wiper arm, but not so severe) - Note that the arm has a twist in it which needs to remain so the wiper sits on the windscreen properly. I moved this round the spline until it swept the biggest area and fitted a 22" blade - On the vertical its about 1cm away and parallel to the "A" pillar.
  • Choosing an automatic - the good & the bad ? 17 Feb 2009 (Forum)
m a bit indecisive about the best auto to look for, the pros & cons appear to be : ?Conventional? hydraulic box with torque convertor ( eg. Hyundai i30, Citroen C4 ) Pros: Been around a long time, so reliable & fairly responsive. No clutch as such so nothing to wear in dense stop / start traffic. Cons: Soaks up a fair amount of engine power so not good on economy.
  • Time for a change ...................... 21 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I've also looked at a new Octavia, but wasn't keen on the deal offered. I've also looked at Peugeot, Citroen and Renault but aren't keen on any of them. I probably prefer a petrol engine, but the toyota D4D is very quiet and is a least as quick as the Mazda 2.0 petrol. The toyota diesel is only £650 more than the 1.8 petrol, but appears to have much stronger residuals.
  • Registration Doc'- Delayed by "Dealer" 3 May 2006 (Forum)
I was told by the guy that the document is sent to them and they hold on to it for 4 to 6 months to stop punters selling the cars on and upsetting Citroen in the process! So my car is registered in my name but at their address! Then...the cheek of the bloke, he said if I wasn't happy, I could download the necessary document from the DVLA website (V.60'something) to say I hadn't received my registration!
  • big, safe cars that go round corners 3 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Ideally, would like to get as recent a car as possible to avoid the "high mileage" driving and handling effect. So far I have thought of, a Mondeo TDCi/2.5 V6, Peugeot 607, Saab 9-5, Vauxhall Omega, Citroen C5. Am upping my budget to between 8 and 10k. One option may be to take my dad's 2 year old Vectra 3.2 V6 Elite Auto off him and get him a Focus Auto since he's retired now. Drove the Vectra yesterday after many months, and it was so effortless to drive with that engine.
  • Car for destroyer of cars 16 Apr 2003 (Forum)
She spent the money on the Merc from a dealer because she thought that spending more money would get a more reliable car - this has patently not been the case. She now has the opportunity to buy my father's X/00 Citroen Picasso which has done 6,000 miles and had a very easy life mostly in a warm garage. The Picasso has warranty until November, and the opportunity to buy a reduced warranty for another 2 years I think.
  • Diesel wiz kids, help..... 14 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Hi guys One question for all you diesel wiz kids out there. I have a J reg (91) Citroen AX Turbo diesel 1.4, which has done 140K miles. It just passed its MOT with no problems at all. I should add body work is kind of crap (I presume when the thickness of the French metal used is two millimetres this is expected) , but engine, from what I see is good.
  • Insurance dilemma part 2 6 Jul 2002 (Forum)
Here is the update, and hopefully final bit, on the previously-mentioned claim my daughter had for a rear-ended Citroen Visa. Both Tesco (her insurers) and Zurich (the other party) offered separately to deal with the claim which meant her ageing car was written off as uneconomical to repair. Zurich were the quicker of the two, accepting their customer was fully to blame, and offering a settlement which more than covered the minimal purchase value of the admittedly low-mileage car, together with £200 over which compensated for inconvenience, my time spent recovering the car on daughter's behalf and having it inspected.
