MINI Adventure. Tyre press.warning light 7 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Friend of mine has a 51 Reg MINI Cooper. Went back to BMW due to a grinding noise on front wheels at low speed. Having looked in HJ\'s C-by-C breakdown I find it should have been re-called for front suspension. Mechanic claims to know nowt. Looks it up on computer and sure enough it should have been. -
My W Reg Vectra 23 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I don\'t think that it deserves the negative press and publicity that the car has attracted, but perhaps I would have a different view if I came from a background of driving BMWs, Mercs, Lexus etc.... Which leads to the question..... isn\'t it all relative? Cheers. TT. -
New Jag XJ - Best Car in the World? 4 Jun 2003 (Forum)
JC, on Top Gear on Sunday, put as strong a case for the Jaguar as he did for I K Brunell - and I tend to agree with him on both - IK {Brunell} and the XJ {Jag} He appears to say that the Jag is better than anything Merc, Audi or BMW etc have to offer. So is the XJ still 'The Best Car In the World' as the Series I Jag was named by the motoring press over 30 years ago? I tend to think so - but I'll never know, can't even afford the 8 year old £6k example that he talked of! -
Different planet 16 May 2003 (Forum)
On their website, they also had a 97R Xantia with 110k for £5595, a Y plate Fiesta (37k) for £7595 (close to new price!), a 99 Arosa and a 98 Clio, both at £6k and a 175k mile 94 BMW 525 for £5k. Does anyone buy these cars or is there really such a premium to be paid for having the steering wheel on the wrong side of the road? And do they make low ball offers for the cars when they're in the country on the grounds that there's no market for them? -
"The Ultimate Driver's Machine"? 8 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I was sat in a brand new 3 series saloon at the local dealership and I could not seriously believe BMW thinks that this is where the pedals should be. For those unfamiliar as you look down to the pedals, the clutch is exactly in line with the centre of the steering wheel and dead in the middle of your legs. -
Cruise control and the right foot. 25 Oct 2002 (Forum)
What is the best position for your right foot when driving the car on the cruise control? I ask because today while driving on the motorway in the BMW 320 on the cruise, I was sat with my right foot flat on the floor. Suddenly, someone pulled into my lane without looking. I couldn't pull into the 3rd lane because of traffic and when I went to hit the brake, I found the clutch instead. -
3 SERIES R/Bush/Ball Joint URGENT 5 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Mate has an '89 BMW 2.0l 3 SERIES. It's just failed it MOT on R/Bush & Sterring Ball Joint. The quote is 300 quid. ie) More than the value of the car. The garage raised the posibility of rusted bolts. He wants to keep the car but reckons it isn't worth spending 300 quid (plus any extras if they shear a few bolts) Questions: 1) Can someone explain how to do the rear bush [1] and give an idea of how hard this task is. 2) I've done front ball joints before and assume they're all the same. -
Driven Tonight 31 Mar 2002 (Forum)
In the absence of the regulation thread on Driven I?ll start one. The comparison between the S class Merc and 7 series BMW IMHO set new a new low even by the standards of this programme. For those who didn?t watch, it consisted of Jason switching off the electronic traction devices. He then drove each car like Steve McQueen on steroids through aircraft hangars, a covered passageway and out onto the airfield in the usual opposite locking , tyre smoking manner that prospective purchasers of this type of limousine will obviously demand. -
Importing a car from South Africa 1 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Am hoping someone can offer some good advice here: A colleague has a BMW Z3 garaged South Africa (Johannesburg) but now works and lives in the UK and will be staying here for the forseeable future. The car is low mileage but 1.5 years old and due to it's value etc he has decided he definitely wants to keep it - he's already thought the selling it there and buying new here side through so no advice on selling it please. -

BMW X1, Mercedes GLA, Audi Q3 - X1 vs GLA vs Q3 8 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I will get figures from my local Audi dealer about the Q3 later on today. These are my thoughts are about each: BMW X1: The newest of them all, looks great, grat interior, the auto-grearbox is amazing and drives well too. Its brand new so there are no offers at all on this one! My local dealer was ready to give a cracking offer on the similarly priced 3 series, but no discounts on this on at all. -
Help me narrow down these choices for me please! 23 Aug 2025 (Forum)
BMW 5 Series 2015+ ; very solid engines, much more spacious than a 3 Series or C Class. Surprisingly cheaper/more available used than the 3 Series or C/S Class. Some even cheaper than 3 Series. Merc E Class 2016+; Probably the most luxurious feel, more roomy than the above listed. -
BMW 1 Series - RTA, third party insurer denying liability 25 Oct 2015 (Forum)

Car Sound Quiz - volunteers require 26 Jul 2015 (Forum)
To give you a bit of background, I'm a massive petrolhead and have always been a big fan of cars with aurally attractive engines. The Alfa V6s, BMW sixes (S54 in particular), F355 and AMG V8s are all high on my list. As engines become more eco-friendly/turbocharged/downsized, we start to lose this element (BMW's adoption of synthetic sound enhancement does not get my vote!). -
MINI Cooper 51 plate - Parked Car Hit from Behind 29 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Recently had put in a brand new steering pump and was really enjoying being back on the road again. Then, while I was at work, some muppet in an old BMW decides to drive into the back of it outside a police patrol base of all places. He claimed that this was because he was forced to swerve to avoid a head on collision with another driver. To be fair, both he and the other driver stopped and had already given their insurance details to the police(who only had to stroll over the road in order to attend) by the time I turned up, having left work. -
Fiat Qubo 1.3 Multijet 95 Trekking - Engine management warning light 24 Jan 2015 (Forum)
In September 2014 I px'd my BMW 325i Touring with 98K on the clock for a 25 month old Qubo with 14K on it, a full Fiat service history and the balance of the 3 year warranty. Whist not built to the same quality as the BMW, the Qubo was big inside, reasonably compact outside, with 95bhp it pulled quite well and cruised comfortable around the maximum speed, whilst returning 54mpg on Shell V-Power diesel. -
