• 2006 Ford Focus 1.6 Ti-VCT - Jerky throttle when closed or almost closed 19 Dec 2017 (Forum)
   Looked at spark plugs, some soot on the thread bases, but the centre and side electrodes and the insulator tips were clean as a whistle, looked very new. Ht leads to me look brand new, have checked resistance which was something like 7.5, 6.5, 5.5, 4.4. Havent check for shorting/arcing yet. Coil pack again looks brand new, dont know how to test this. I want to do a vacuum leak test but, kinda nervous about spraying stuff around the engine.

  I now own both a petrol-engined car and a diesel-engined campervan, and am a little concerned that this presents an ideal recipe for the momentary confusion which can lead to misfuelling. So I am thinking of getting one of the devices designed to prevent me from putting petrol in my campervan, but would welcome any suggestions on which one to get. From the reading I have done so far, there seem to be two sorts of gadgets available: those which offer an audible or visual warning, and those which physically prevent a petrol nozzle from being inserted into the van's filling pipe.

  The car now refuses to start, I can use the Radio/lights/wipers everything, it all feels like it is working fine, but it will not start, I am wondering if the power sounder battery being low would cease the car from starting? when I turn the ignition, I can hear a faint click but nothing after it, which leads me on to either; The battery not having enough power to kick it. Bad earth. Faulty Starter motor. Faulty Transponder in the key. Faulty Ignition Barrel?. I've had a charger pack thing on the battery for 10 mins but this did not seem to do anything.

  I found out that as of March last year if the car is missing any safety device that was originally part of the car then it is an MOT failure. This leads me to a major problem - as all cars now come with a drivers side airbag fitted and I have a phobia about one being there and the MOT rules state it must be there where does that leave me?  Does it mean that every time I go for the MOT I have to have the airbag put back in, MOT it, and then pay for it to be removed, or can any exemptions apply on the grounds of phobias?

  Problem 3 while fixing something else on the car ,a garage told me my fan belt ( the belt by the alternator not the cambelt) was showing signs of wear , minor cracks etc , is this a serious issue and what are the implications if not fixed?will it lead to major engine damage similar to cambelt failure or cause an alternator failure? Problem 4 I was told my power steering rack underneath the car was leaking a bit, what are the major problems if not fixed. power steering fluid seems to be at  maximum mark and still at maximum mark after two months of driving car.

  t seem to be doing their homework and matching the LPG system to their cars engine/power requirements, leading to problems such as loss of power, no revs etc. Finally, ( I heard that sigh of relief ! ) which system would backroomers recommend for the BMW 3.5ltr 12 valve straight 6 ? • Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec 2000 - Speedo dropping intermittently 19 Feb 2013 (Forum)
    Again the car keeps running but does show a slight loss of power initially and the radio volume dipped again. My husband has replaced the HT Leads and put in a new coil pack.  We have a VSS on the way which he will fit at the weekend, so am hoping this will solve the problem.  HOWEVER, the oddest thing about all of this is that hubby drove me to and from work on 3 occasions taking exactly the same route and absolutely nothing happened!!

  For example, they used cement based adhesive on bare gypsum plaster walls, which is a no no, because the two undergo a chemical reaction leading to tiles falling off. I am confident of a positive outcome, as I have letters from them in which they make statements which conflict with themselves, and with 3 independent surveys I commissioned.

  Hi, Im hoping that somone can shed some light on the disastor im having with my 2003 JCW  Mini. 6 weeks ago my coolant dropped out my engine due to a cracked expansion tank which lead to my engine overheating and the head gasket needing replacing. This work was carried out by a mini specialist and the work included sending the warped head off to an external company to be skimmed and it was also crack tested.

  I did tell the dealer that the car had had some problems earlier in its life (core plugs, leaky windscreen washers onto the HT leads) when I first bought it, and showed all receipts since.He checked it visually and started the car before we did the deal (no engine light came on, as it hasnt done since the alternator change), asked about servicing and I showed him the book.

  A massive airlock in the cooling system had allowed the engine oil to overheat to the point of degradation thus leading to camshaft damage. The independent workshop recommends that the big end bearings are examined for shell damage whilst the car is in the workshop. The bill for all this work might easily top £3,000 and my family member is understandably aggrieved.

  Changed it. The same. Ah, it's a faulty earth, feeding the voltage from the microswitch back up the earth lead to the boot popper. Cleaned up all the earths at the base of the A pillars and in the boot. The same. Ah, it must be a faulty GEM. Changed it. The same. Ah, it must be a stray screw through the loom somewhere, shorting the microswitch and the boot popper circuits together.

    So far I've:   Checked the fans to make sure they're not stuck Checked all the 60A fuses in the PDU / Aux fuse box in the engine Checked the connections from the PDU to the fans are snug and not corroded/dirty Placed my hand on the large pipe leading to the top of the radiator- it's warm/hot. Had our local mechanic take a look- he found a wire for the A/C that had been chafing against something and taped it up, but no joy.   I gather I should unplug the sender from the thermostat and that should kick the fans on after a few seconds- do I find the t/stat on the front left-ish of the engine with the large hose going from it to the radiator?

  I do about 30,000 miles a year and poor distance-keeping allied to incorrect lane use now seems to plague all two- and three-lane roads nationwide.  I'm convinced that it engenders frustration that leads directly to the many accidents and the consequent closures that blight such roads. What are the thoughts on this forum on how best to deal with it on an individual basis?  I had a session a while back with a really excellent advanced driving instructor, but while he was brilliant on how to cover A and B roads quickly and safely, he had no ready solution for motorways.

  The mechanic reckons because of the ecu's postion it could be something as simple as water getting into some of the cables/connections (it has ben very wet/cold lately), he cleaned and sprayed all the leads etc. I did think my redex top up about a week ago may have caused the blip, but the mechanic quickly discounted that. Apparently the ecu which i believe is where the ecm/pcm is housed can be sent off for testing and possibly repair.
