  • A French Speciality? 24 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Looking back there are a fair few: - Peugeot 205: sold until 1996, with its replacement, the 106, being introduced some 4 years prior. - Citroen AX: Sold for about 1 year after the Saxo was introduced - Renault 5: sold for 5 years after the Clios introduction - Peugeot 505: Ceased production in 1992, even though the production of 405s and 605 started in 1988 and 1989 respectively.
  • Vauxhall Monterey Tyre Wear 21 Jan 2005 (Forum)
He says that body roll can be a contributory factor, camber, and the fact that we go clockwise around roundabouts. I seem to recall that this is true of the Citroen Xantia as well.. Now, if this was some typical tyre place, I would seriously doubt their explanations, but I've been using them for around fifteen years, and they about as far away from a fast fit outfit as you can get in terms of skill and advice.
  • Traffic Violation in Italian Rental Car 7 Jan 2005 (Forum)
All, Myself and SWMBO went on holiday to Tuscany in July 2004 (very enjoyable it was too, we got engaged), and hired a Citroen Pluriel from Avis. Anyway, got a letter from them today advising they have received a fine from the Polizia Municipale in Florence for a 'violation of Italian Traffic Regulations'. Under section blah blah of the regulations, the hire company have provided my details to the authorities who will send a request for to my address.
  • Old Fiesta diesel - dying? 9 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I'm ignorant about diesels, but I believe there's no distributor or spark plugs to point the finger at? BTW, all the locals (French) swear that old Fiestas are a much better buy than their Peugeot/Citroen/Renault counterparts! Easily fixed, or do I put up with it? It cost me more than you might think to buy - used motors in France fetch higher prices than in the UK.
  • BMWs - They all do that, Sir...??? 16 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Even then, I would have thought that smoke would have been unlikely on a car of that quality(?) and age. Answers on a postcard! Glad I went for that nice reliable, quality built, Citroen........... Ho ho ho! Graeme
  • Very high mileage C5 - should I? 8 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Looking for a family car for around the £4k mark and don't want something that's too long in the tooth so went to look at a 2001 (51) Citroen C5 2.0 HPI (petrol) Exclusive with 102k on the clock but up for a tempting £3495 which includes a 6-month parts & labour warranty. The car has 2 previous owners (two different branches of TSB Lloyds car leasing) and has a fully dealer stamped service book.

  • Big Brother?s Garage - Round one. 6 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Alfa 156. 7. Peugeot 405. 8. Seat Leon. 9. Vauxhall Vectra. 10. TVR Tuscan. 11. Perodua Nipper. 12. Citroen 2CV (was formerly a Cit Dyane) Next Tuesday (6th July), I will attempt to tally up the scores. The cars with fewest votes will remain and the voting process will begin again until we?re left with *hopefully* one (or maybe 2) winner(s).
  • Cost of motoring 28 May 2004 (Forum)
No point to this post really, I was just staggered at the amount of money I have spent without thinking about it! -- RichardW Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....
  • car servicing scam to end 17 May 2004 (Forum)
These restrictive clauses, which affected 49% of new cars sold last year, have now been removed following pressure from the OFT. This could save motorists up to £500m a year Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Citroen, Ford, Mercedes, Peugeot, Seat, Skoda, Smart and Volkswagen have fallen in line with the OFT\'s call, although strict conditions on the quality of the work by independent garages remain. DaimlerChrysler, for instance, insists that work is done to an \'excellent\' standard and uses approved parts for the warranty to remain valid, while BMW says servicing has to meet certain guidelines and use parts \'of a similar quality\' to its own.
  • Xantia Rear Doors Not Opening. :( 30 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I don't want to have to take it to the dealer as I know its going to get expensive especially now the rear doors won't open at all. So if I can fix it myself I'd be much happier. (No offence Citroen Dealers) ANY IDEAS OUT THERE??? Cheers, Dave Crampton :)
  • Spares pricing. 19 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I'm buying parts at trade prices for various makes on a daily basis....with a particular bias towards Citroen/Peugeot. It used to be simple. Public paid retail and the trade paid trade prices. Now it is all over the place. It is now almost impossible to buy at the local motor factors as they are undercut by two shops in the city that open from 9-6, 7 days a week...and with lower prices.
  • Would you believe it??!! 8 Aug 2003 (Forum)
The difference between them is very subtle and easy to miss or get confused. But the incorrect replacement front plate was put on my (or at least made for) a Citroen Dealer! It bears their name on the bottom. A check with the V5 confirmed that the rear plate was the correct one. Phoned them up and told a little white lie, said I'd been stopped by the police, who had pointed this out and given me 7 days to sort it.
  • VAG 1.8T vs V5 vs 20VT. Which one? 31 Mar 2003 (Forum)
No more V6s for me as the wife will use it for work and i've tired of fuelling the V6 Cav. 5) Good poke and I've always fancied one of the above engines so don't introduce others. Don't like the Skoda Octavia RS styling either! 6) No Citroen BX, Xantia or XM hijacking please!! I would be interested in owners experiences of any of the above cars, including mpg, servicing costs, insurance costs. Good points and bad. I know about the coil problem by the way.
  • Kangarooing/Stalling 5 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Hello, I have a single point injection ax1.4i tzx, it is using loads too much fuel, and constantly kangarooing and stalling at all speeds, the fault light come on when this happens, but the nearest citroen place is a long way, and the local garage,s computer fault finder would not work on my car for some reason. I have replaced fuel filter and cleaned fuel pump filter to rule those out. a mechanic told me that it is probably a valve sensor that costs around £60 second hand as it is attached to other stuff and you have to buy the lot, the problem is I don,t know which sensor to buy because there are lots of them, can anyone put me right on this please?
  • Which nearly new supermini? 30 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Hi All, I've been lurking for a while but this is my first post so be gentle :-) I'm a mid-twenties guy who has recently got a decent job and I'm currently looking to replace my old Citroen AX with a newer supermini. By reading around and talking to other people I've pretty much concluded that the best value and least hassle route will be to get a under 2 year old, low-mileage car.
  • New(er) car 'safety'? 3 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Or are they just reducing the severity from an increasing number of accidents? As I drive a car that's half plastic (Citroen BX) and would probably fold up if it encountered a modern 'safe' tank, I driver VERY defensively.... This question was really brought about by the thread abuot the Welsh figures - mis quoting of stats by the press is one of my particular bug bears (aling with the mis use of apostrophes - pedant, who, me?).
  • Xantia - delay in 'Stop' light going off. 4 Mar 2002 (Forum)
One for the Citroen specialists I think......... My Xantia TD Estate (which some of you already may be familiar with - 1996, 130+K, properly serviced every 6K etc.) has started an annoying habit - When initially started up in the morning (or after several hours) the STOP warning light which appears in the 'crontrole' panel takes considerably more time to go out than it used to - I thought that the light was a warning to stop or rather 'stay put' until the hydraulics pressured up.
  • Mercedes Build Quality 20 Jan 2002 (Forum)

  • AX charging fault 12 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Please could I have some advice? The car is 1994 Citroen AX diesel with 90K miles on it. A few days ago the battery light (comes on with the ignition and goes off when the alternator is charging) failed to light up when starting the car. The alternator had been making growling noises for weeks, in fact since the car went through some flood water a while back.
