Hyundai i20 (2009) - advice re ESP 1 May 2009 (Forum)
Reasoning as follows : a) Main driver will be my wife - given that she spends most of her time driving around town quite sedately and doesn't push her car anywhere near its limits, I'm not sure it's really of much use to her, especially on a car with only a 1.2 engine; b) In due course, I'm expecting my kids to learn to drive on this car. -
Vauxhall Omega (1994 - 2003) - 02 2.2 rise and fall on front seats 26 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Although there is a live feed to both motors and when the raise and lower switch is pressed the motor clicks and tries to operate, there is no movement on the drive spindle on either seat. This fault occurred at the same time on both seats and may possibly have been caused by my wife hoovering under the seats. However I have checked thoroughly underneath and can find no trace of any broken connection and as the motor attempts to drive and there is not a blown fuse in the circuit it appears that in some way the drive has been locked. -
Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 1998 2.0 Loss of braking while driving? 5 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Good morning all, I had a major problem last night. Iwas driving back from Legoland to Southampton and I started hearing a "suction noise" while accelerating? Only when accelerating. Monitored warning lights, temperature etc but everything here seemed to be ok. -
Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 2003 1.9Tdi 130PD Auto tiptronic problem 23 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I'd be grateful if anyone could help me diagnose my gearbox problem (without mentioning that I should be going to the dealer for a diagnostic test). The car at present drives perfectly when in auto (or tip) but when I stop and change into neutral the car jerks. When I put it into reverse or drive, sometimes on computer the gear select square that highlights the gear that I am in changes and all the squares (i.e. -
Alfa Romeo 147 (2001 - ) - 2001 1.6 Not switching over to LPG 11 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I have an unusual problem where sometimes the car will not switch over to LPG. It will attempt to but fails and cuts out, this sometimes happens from a cold start (I will be driving along and all of a sudden it will just cut out) or if the car has just switched over to LPG and then turned off and left for 10 - 15 mins (The car will start but after a few seconds it will just cut out) I have to turn the LPG off immediately and drive on Petrol (on one occasion, I was going around a bend and it decided not to switch to LPG and almost caused me to crash!) -
Mitsubishi i-car (2007 - ) - Mitsubishi i-car 3 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Saw one of these cute little things in the local dealer, and had a test drive yesterday. Surprisingly nice to drive; the 660 cc engine is turbocharged, mounted in the rear (it is rear wheel drive). Ride is better than the Smart car, and so is the gearbox - a proper automatic instead of the jerky semi-auto in the Smart. -
Car insurance write off but still driveable?? 2 May 2008 (Forum)
The van drivers insurnace company have not even had the accident reported to them, the first they knew was when my husbands company contacted them. My questions are a) Are we legally allowed to still drive it? Is it still insured? b) How can they "write it off" when its just cosmetic? He's been driving it since the accident until they collected it for repair. c) Surely it's the other insurance company who should be paying for it, it was the van driver who was at fault, why should we have to lose out for his driving. -
Ford Fiesta (2000 - 2002) - 2001, 1.6 zetec s high pitched noise when idle 8 Feb 2008 (Forum)
As i said it isnt loud but I know it wasn't there before so i don't want to keep driving it if its going to do serious damage. If you need more details il try to provide them as best as i can. Thanks in advance, Matt. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 - Doors deadlock when driving 16 Dec 2007 (Forum)
My wife reckons that it's something to do with the cold weather, although this could be coincidence. You can sometimes here the locking mechanism 'twitch' whilst driving, but it doesn't actually lock. Does anyone have any ideas what might cause the doors to all lock spontaneously like this, for no obvious reason ? It's probably worth mentioning that the remote key has not worked for many years - I changed the battery (which made no difference) and have never got round to finding out the cause, as it locks and deadlocks manually without a problem. -
Female needs HELP in buying car 2 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I have a budget of up to at a stretch 6K. Will only get about £1K back for written off car. I do a fair bit of motorway driving currently around 2000 miles per month (up to 40000) so would like a diesel. (intend to drive it into the ground) I find smallish cars - fiestas, yaris, clio uncomfortable on long drives and after my crash would find them a little flimsy. -
VW Polo Carburetor Problem 3 May 2007 (Forum)
When I revved the engine the RPM climbed smoothly to the expected speed, then dropped back again and then stalled. The moment I released the accelerator the engine ran smoothly again at idle. Started driving again and the engine cut out a few times when accelerating in 1st and 2nd gears, so lots of acceleration needed. Also noticed an intermittent popping or banging noise from the exhaust when driving when the engine was just above idle. -
Supermarket - buying without warranty 23 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Supposing for example 2 weeks later the headgasket blows, or you discover when driving home that actually the brakes aren't very good, the clutch clipping, the handbrake doesn't hold, or the auto gearbox starts jerking/hunting after 20mins driving. Do you actually have any "comeback" ? -
Peugeot 407 2.0 HDi Flat spot? 28 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Is it simply my driving style? Do I need to learn how to drive modern turbo-charged diesels or is there a problem with this model and its ECU mapping? Or is it just my car? I have yet to confront the Peugeot dealer - that will be my next course of action but in the meantime - does anyone else have this problem? -
A tale of three cars. 3 Feb 2007 (Forum)
After a few disappointing months the Toyota was replaced by one of the then-new first generation of FWD Mazda 323's, a 1.5 GT. This was just as well made as the Toyota and nearly as much fun to drive as the Fiat. On my very first drive I caught sight of myself in the mirror, grinning idiotically. The moral of the story? I suppose it's in the first line. -
A mysterious problem - BMW 25 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I drive for perhaps a mile up the road. Kill the engine. Start it again, come home. 50 yards from home, the engine dies. Same problem, it will not start but the engine turns over. What is wrong with my car? -
Driving to France and/or in Paris - Help 22 Sep 2006 (Forum)
We are considering either staying in a downtown Paris hotel for two nights or would you advise staying outside of Paris (by Disney perhaps) and taking the train in each day - any idea of cost or time this might take. 5. What's an honest drive time from Calais/Boulogne to Paris central? Hoping you can help us out. Cheers John Jennings -
Which Car to Keep ? 25 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Hi all, Me and and my gf have a '03 Ibiza 130 Sport (nominally my car), and a '52 Golf PD100 SE with all the trimmings - cruise, AC, etc (nominally hers). The golf is paid for and very reliable, but dull to drive. The Ibiza is on a PCP with the balloon payment due in Feb '07, it's great to drive and has been 100% reliable so far, in fact overall it's probably the best car I've ever owned. However, my gf fancies something a bit sportier and fun, so we are looking to buy a new model MX-5 in ther next few months. -
UK Car abroad more or less permantly 23 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I heard a long time ago about something like a "trippers" one year insurance used by, for example people driving around europe on an extended trip (Aussie or Kiwi style) but no internet search comes up with anything 2)If the answer to 1 is yes, (so I do not need to drive it back to the UK 4 or more times a year,) what happens with a UK car over three years old regarding the MOT? -
What's a good car for a bad back? 23 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I'm helping my dad choose a new car and I'd like any advice, please, on makes/ models we should consider where the number one priority is a comfortable drive considering he has a bad back. We reckon that for him this requires a vehicle with (a) an elevated driving position and (b) generous headroom, as he's over 6ft tall. The car being replaced is a Volvo 850, more than 12 years old, and my dad believes the relatively low slung driver's seat, into which you have to lower your body, has exacerbated his back problem. -
I have not renewed my subscription... 23 Dec 2005 (Forum)
IS there a mag that writes for grown ups, that doesn't worry too much about image and economy or am I relegated to the classic car stuff. -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
