  • New wheels for NoWheels 27 Oct 2005 (Forum)
My first question is about the Xsara. It looks tempting, but I have doubts abt the reliability of Peugeot/Citroen petrol engines: I have been told that they do good diesels, but not-so-good petrol engines. Is that fair? (OTOH, Xsaras are cheap enough that I could maybe get a reasonable HDI and still have a few quid set aside for any repairs).
  • C3 Opinions 8 Jul 2002 (Forum)
As with all car using digital speedos, I found the accuracy to be distracting, but absolutely loved the rev counter. It reminds me why I like Citroens as the half clock face pointer across the entire binacle is something most manufacturers wouldn't even consider using (waits for the inevitable contradiction!). If you've not seen it, it's as funky as the speedo on a Vauxhall Viva, but rounded.
  • Ford Focus 09 alternative 8 May 2021 (Forum)
fromSavedAds=true&advertising-location=at_cars So I was wondering what alternatives there are, to help broaden my search a little, please? Mazda3, VW Golfs, Citroen C4 and Vauxhall Astras have all been mentioned. Wondered if they're good alternatives?  I'm based in the Peak District and commute to Manchester, so it's a car that'll go on many windy country roads and a few motorways, but wouldn't be used for much else.
  • Skoda Octavia Estate - In a quandary but a nice one 14 Apr 2019 (Forum)
in 2011 we planned to go caravanning around the EU for a few times and other things so bought a 2008 citroen C5 diesel auto. It was perfect for the job. Towing it got around 20-25 mpg, free from the van 45-50 mpg. Lovely jubbly. We also tow a heavy trailer with wood maybe once/twice a month as well. But now its getting on a bit, only 80k miles tho and we have now sold the caravan, ( but still tow wood occasionally).
  • Another what to buy 5 Dec 2018 (Forum)
I will be parting company with the Corsa at some point in the new year and I am considering the following Skoda Fabia 2015 on, the Citroen C3 from 2014 - 16 in either petrol or diesel as my annual mileage is around 18-20,000 per annum I've done some calculations and there's nothing to differentiate between the green and black pump price wise and I spend around £35 - 40 per week., I used the data from the real MPG on HJ for this I would be considering the 90 - 120ps petrol engine models as I do some motorway driving I would be keeping the car for around 3 years, and looking for a vehicle with around 15 - 20k on the clock.
  • Twins on the way - need car recommendations 2 May 2018 (Forum)
He is quite tall so a lot of seemingly big vehicles are too small to fit a car seat behind his seat when he is driving. We thought we had it narrowed down to a Citroen Grand Picasso or a VW Passat Estate. He prefers the VW but I really hate the idea of constantly bending over to put 2 babies into car seats. Also, the interior of the VW feels so cramped compared to the Picasso.
  • Peugeot 207 - Any mechanics in Scotland looking for trainee? 13 May 2014 (Forum)
I have a mechanical aptitude and have been self taught to some extent and have undertook jobs such as replacing wishbones, driveshaft, hub swivel pin's, suspension mounts, engine mounts, steering wheel, brakes & servicing. I also own Peugeot/Citroen dealer level diagnostic equipment which have helped me diagnose central locking problems, airbag faults and air flow faults. I am also working on old outboard engines as a hobby where I have rebuilt carburettors, installed new coils points & condensers and head gaskets.
  • Operating the electric handbrake..inconsistencies 6 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I can't comment on VW/Audi, and i can't remember exactly how the Vauxhall Insignia brake operated, but i don't recall anything unusual, and i can't remember how Renaults operate either. Anyway here's a few to start with Citroen Pull on Pull off. (C5, C6 normal siting, C4 Pic top of dash) Jaguar, Land Rover, (All Fords?) Pull on Push off ...quite normal to me anyway. (Normal siting) New Avensis Push on Pull off....find this unusual.
  • Ford Fiesta - Buying a Second Hand Diesel Car - Few Questions! 5 Jul 2012 (Forum)
My budget is around £2500 and I've seen a few on AutoTrader at around this price. I did originally want a Citroen C2 VTR automatic but after hearing some very bad reviews I have changed my mind. Now with regards to the Fiesta my main question is, is it worth buying a newer model that has higher mileage, or an older model which has less mileage?

  • Lower back pain - best cars seats to help 4 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Sitting statically in the seat seems ok but drive half a mile and I can feel an ache coming on then I start having to shift round in the seat all the time and fidgeting. Its making me miserable as I had no problems with a previous cars (except a Citroen Saxo which gave similar pain) and the trouble started teh same day I picked the car up. I've go all sorts of adjustments - lumber / tilt / height but its no use - I cant get it right. Is there a psycology to pain - i.e if you expect to be uncomfortable you will be and then it becomes self fulfilling and tension builds up in the muscles?
  • Musa - Lancia 25 Sep 2011 (Forum)
It was fitted with the 1.3 multijet diesel in I think 95 or 75 hp form, sorry can't be more specific. In short the car was a disappointment. The interior quality was on a par with my last citroen, a 2005 c4, The ride wasn't great and in my opinion the car is ugly, although some may disagree. It struck me that if Lancia wishes to return to the uk successfully they are going to have to up there game.
  • Volkswagen Golf - VAG 1.6 tdi or 2.0 tdi? 31 May 2011 (Forum)
On my all-in-costs, the 1.6 is £30 per month less than the 2.0.  I'm currently in a starship-miler 2001 Citroen C5 TD that might have been 90bhp one day in its past(!), but before then I had a 2007 170bhp Passat Estate, and before then a 2004 140bhp A3 DSG. Point is that anything would be an improvement, but will the 1.6 disappoint?

  • Jaguar X-Type 2004 2.0D classic (53 reg) - part service history - stay away? 12 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Hi, I recently sold my Citroen C4 petrol (55reg) to make way for a diesel for my new commute.  It needed to be large enough for our little'un as well so I started looking at saloon range cars, Audi A4, Peugeot 407 etc.
  • The meaning of luxury 3 Nov 2009 (Forum)
The excellent James May in his Saturday column in the Telegraph made the point that luxury isn't paint or leather or bird's-eye maple inlaid with ivory and gold, although those are all right in their way. It is a decent ride, making the Citroen C6 a contender for the best luxury car. I was reminded of the truth in that when a wife's cousin gave us a lift a few blocks the other night in his shabby old non-turbo diesel ZX, which he had just collected from my mechanic down the back after a couple of chassis jobs.
  • Honda Accord UK (2008 - ) - New Honda Accord. 9 Dec 2008 (Forum)
That was important to me when driving on the ice the other day. I also like front wheel drive. I was interested in the new Citroen C5 for my next car, but the Honda Accord is much better. I am genuine about this message, as my present car is excellent, but it is old and has very big milleage. The garrage warned me that I may have problems in 6 weeks or 6 months.Something connected to the gearbox is getting warn.
  • FIAT - Buying flawed 70s Gems.... 16 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I have bought some old copies of CAR and three cars have seriously tempted me into looking Europe wide for a good example: The FIAT 127 and FIAT 128 ( fantastic Lampredi designed OHC engine) Citroen GS (svelte comfortable and terrific revvy air cooled flat four engine) Alfa Sud 1200 TI ( still reckoned by many today as one of the most finely balanced front drivers ever made). All despite having fantastic engineering were built from useless recyled steel and rusted away over here.
  • Tight old man needs advice (trade Rover 75 - buy)? 20 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I'm Ok to spend about £5K and want something small and economical (doesn't everybody) - there's a Vetec down the road in a garage, the Citroen C4 looks good (maybe a bit big) honest John mentioned a Hyundai i30 or KIA Cee'd. 1.4 or 1.6 petrol or 1.6 diesel, there's also the Seat Ibiza ... any advice very welcome please regards Roger
  • The most economical... 16 Jul 2008 (Forum)
In a never-ending quest for fuel consumption and cheap tax, she's been considering the following: 107 1.0 Urban (with a/c), Clio Dci 80 Dynamique (old shape, again with a/c), Fiat Grande Punto 1.3 90 (6spd) Dynamic, Ford Fiesta Zetec-S TDCi and Citroen C3 HDi SX. I know its a varied list, and they all have their pro's and con's, but does anyone have experience of these in respect of higher-mileages? Are any particularly unrefined or uncomfortable on the motorway?
