  • Filling with fuel to the brim 15 Feb 2006 (Forum)
When buying fuel I always "fill to the brim" so I can reasonably accurately calculate consumption, but I read somewhere that it's a bad idea. (I use diesel, by the way, if that's relevant.) Is bad to fill to the brim?
  • Restarting Golf TDi - fuel filter drain 6 May 2007 (Forum)
Has 56k on the clock and one owner from new. Lovely dark green colour. I am aware its good to drain the diesel fuel filter periodically via the screw tap/bung at the bottom of the filter. My question is how does one restart the car after draining the filter and surely the car will not have any diesel in the filter to run on?
  • advance corrector 30 Mar 2001 (Forum)
I own a 1998 Peugeot turbo diesel and my brother owns a 1994 Peugeot turbo diesel both are fitted with lucas fuel pumps. On a schematic diagram for the electrics mine shows advance correction solenoid and advance correction relay, however on my brothers it shows advance corrrector/fuel cut off solenoid and advance corretor relay.
  • Missfueling Ad Blue into the diesel tank 26 Feb 2022 (Forum)
A call to them before driving off would have limited the damage to a drain and clean ! Audi refuse liability as one of the fuel caps is coloured blue and marked Adblue but is adjacent to the diesel cap.
  • Lancia Beta Coupe (1981) - Diesel in a carburator petrol engine. 17 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I have possibly been an idiot and put in diesel to my carb based petrol engine (if so it would be about 40/60 diesel/petrol).  The reason I think this is the car was running fine, put in fuel... drove 300 yards and it coughed and spluttered its way to where I was able to pull it over.
  • Renault Megane: petrol in diesel engine 4 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I drove it 4 miles before it started juddering badly, cut out and wouldn't re-start. The dealership recovered the car and it turned out they had filled it with petrol not diesel. They've drained the tank & fuel system etc and claim it will be okay: I'm not convinced. Any advice - I assume that it will have been running hot on a lower viscosity fuel. Piston rings and valve seats could be damaged.

  • Future fuel price. 8 Mar 2024 (Forum)
With many people getting EVs the demand for petrol and diesel will presumably decrease. I don't know which way prices will go...any thoughts?

  • problems warm starting a bmw 318 diesel 9 Aug 2005 (Forum)
The engine will start eventually but requires 4 seconds and more on the starter to fire it up. this always results in a great cloud of white (unburned diesel) smoke and could I guess eventually damage the engine. I have replaced the fuel filter. and checked that the fuel pump delivers fuel from the tank to the filter ok. there does not appear to be a leak in the system between the injection pump and the injectors. my next guess is that the valve clearances are not correct.
  • any - who adds 2SO to their diesel fuel 1 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I wonder if there are any motorists out there who add 2SO to their diesel fuel . Dont use red 2SO otherwise you have a job explaining why you have what appears as red diesel in the tank to a fuel dipper ! Extract  " due to the pollution control measures of the EC diesel-oil is nearly sulphur free and contains up to 5% of bio-diesel.
  • Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 1994 1.9TD Fuel problem 24 Oct 2008 (Forum)
When i came back it would not start, the engine turned over fine but it wasn't even trying to fire up. I primed the fuel system using the squidgy rubber pump and it fired up no problem. The car hasn't been left more than a couple of days since and has been fine with no starting or running problems until last night. The car has just been sat for 4 days and when i came to use it last night i had the same problem, i primed the fuel system and it started fine and it started fine this morning.
  • Diesel V Petrol and CO2 19 Aug 2008 (Forum)
This is rather interesting. I wonder of it will result in a rethink on diesel and CO2 emmissions. www.channel4.com/4car/ft/feature/feature/15594/2 It states that "The problem is that diesel cars emit more carbon dioxide per litre of fuel burnt."
  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - Fuel Consumption on the new 6 31 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I'm just about to order a new 6 Estate and was goin to order the diesel, but am having second thoughts on account of: 1) The increasing differential between petrol and diesesl at the pumps 2) There seem to be a lot of reports of the diesel only returning ~38mpg. I'm after some feedback on consumption figures for the diesel and 2.0l petrol to help me decide.

  • Supermarket Fuels 21 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Cue debate...thoughts? Which to avoid. Sainsbury's are currently offering the cheapest fuel however, would it pay to pay the extra and fill up at the likes of Shell / BP? Also, is it true Tesco use Esso fuels - and is it any good? I use diesel in my SD, I ask because I live near a Tesco garage and don't often pass Shell / BP.
  • cirtroen c3 - Fuel tank leak ?? 2 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I have just filled my citroen c3 1.4 diesel, and fuel has leaked from underneath the car.  Does anyone know if there is a relief or overflow valve that could cause a leak ?  I have checked the fuel pump area accessed from under the back seat and that is dry.
