  • Nissan Almera Tino auto late 2003 - Steering wheel vibration at 60-65mph plus,not w/b? 20 May 2010 (Forum)
There's unlikely to be water in the other tyre as I put a new branded tyre on in case the old branded tyre was out of shape. Remember, the wheels have been rotated anyway. I believe some Audis had a similar problem - their it was the control arm. There is no wheel bearing wear sound, no other symptoms. Just this judder at 65mph through the s/wheel, not in the rest of the car.
  • BMW 3-Series E90 (2005 - ) - 325d 2nd Impression 24 Apr 2008 (Forum)
But with a tight engine I'm reluctant to take the chance of over revving it by accident. Couldn't they just tell you which gear you're in without such a fuss? In contrast the Audi would provide an immediate gear display after engaging Tiptronic but without changing gear. Most of the first two weeks getting to know you has been conducted in my garage as I continued to drive the Audi until I sold it a few days ago.
  • Talk me out of buying an X-Type... 21 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Obviously before getting into this I have done some research and these are some of the other cars I've checked out and tried and very briefly what I thought: BMW 3 Series (various): Drives ok, is VERY barren inside and EVERYTHING is extra, doesn't feel like a luxury car at all, instead feels like a nicely crafted metal box that someone happens to have attached four wheels and an engine to in a rather clever way. Audi A4 2.0L FSI Sport: Again barren and boring inside, and simply pathetic drive even the 2L Disel Jaguar is a more exciting drive than this POS. A bit cramped inside, no quality finish and SO DULL. Audi A6: Too expensive anyway, but better quality, the drive is just as flat and boring though.
  • Lexus NX - Car buying dilemma. 2 Feb 2025 (Forum)
I have retired now and don’t want to be changing cars every three years, so I was thinking about switching to a Lexus NX and taking advantage of the long warranty.  I’ve also got an itch for a small roadster and have my eye on a 2021 Audi TT 2.0 TFSI 45 sport roadster, 30,000 miles, £24K from a dealership in Dundee.  i have been keeping an eye on the price of Lexus NX’s and have an offer from the carwow platform of 5.9% off a top-spec Takumi model, which seems very reasonable ( my partner struggled to get anything at all off her LBX).
  • for concealed windscreen washer pumps - The peril of rainwater 25 Jun 2021 (Forum)
But being mean with additives can result in microscopic plant life multiplying to form gunge which blocks the pump uptake filter resulting in a weak flow (a common MoT failure in old cars - beware, they'll sell you an overpriced new pump if they can) and ultimately, as has just happened to my rarely driven Audi A8, no flow at all.   No amount of flushing and poking would clear it, not even an attempt at reverse flushing with a large syringe via the jets' pipework.  I even tried nearly boiling water, then overnight Jeyes fluid which reputedly dissolves it.
  • Buying a car seems to be difficult 4 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Now that the Corolla is off the list its back to the XC40 but before that I decided to scan WhatCar and see what other estates might tempt me. None to be honest, Audi, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Vauxhall, Peugeot, Mazda etc something was unavailable on all of them or the prices were daft. But the VW Passat in 2.0 TSi SEL spec seemed to tick all the boxes. Only option needed was to upgrade from A/C to climate and add a spare wheel (£160 for a matching alloy with proper sized tyre).
  • Mazda MX5 /AudiTT - The old turning 50 car conundrum question 6 Oct 2018 (Forum)
Unfortunately he quickly realised that he will have to use it over the winter (rural Scotland) for work commuting and that the MX5 is not really suited for that role. I then suggested an Audi TT, 21K gets him into the mk3, and recommended the 2.0 TFSi or even the 1.8 petrol which seems plenty quick enough. Obviously a quattro would be great but I suspect that even a 2wd with decent tyres would handle most conditions perfectly well (his work has a policy where you can work from home or the nearest base in bad weather conditions).
  • Trying the Jaguar E-Pace 17 Mar 2018 (Forum)
I got an invitation to a Jaguar driving event to introduce the E-Pace - before I'd ordered the Audi, but I thought it would be fun to go along anyway, as it was not far from home, at Thruxton.  It was a very well-organised event, which included a road drive, a track session and a 'dynamic' session involving parking, skidpan and slalom testing.
  • Grandis VS Sharalaxy Pros/Cons 2005+ 14 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Yet to find a petrol Sharalaxy worth looking at, mostly Dervs I am looking at, but preferring the Petrol engine in the Grandis. I generally know more about the Sharalaxy, more info on the web, had an Audi with the 1.9 PD engine in (aware of potential problems of the 2.0 PD) and what can go wrong. Myself and my partner have a preference for the Grandis over a Sharalaxy, Grandis is a better drive on the open road, better stability and change of direction, only thing is its not as good over speed bumps (6 sets to get out of our estate, but already have to crawl over them in our current car).
  • Please help me choose a car for a long commute 6 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Honda Accord - Good cars but again don't look great on the MPG front. Audi A6 - As per the Mondeo. I've looked at LPG but that doesn't seem as cost effective as it has been due to rising LPG prices. It could be I'm asking the impossible but I thought I'd throw it out there incase anyone has come up with a solution before or could recommend something.
  • n/a - Used Car Advice? 13 Oct 2011 (Forum)
    - Manual transmission - estate body - don't really like Japanese, but if I am totally wrong in terms of what im looking for, I guess I could be convinced   I was thinking about an Audi A6 estate, or thereabouts, but am not sure after reading that they are not the best in terms of service costs, etc.. Oh, and right now, the main way that I am searching for potential cars to buy, is via Gumtree.
  • How dopey...? 28 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Two different but equally alarming observations of dopiness on the M40 in Buckinghamshire the other evening. 1. In fading light, when almost all the other vehicles had lights on, a twilight-grey Audi A6 was trundling along at 60ish in lane 3 of 4 with acres of empty space to its left and not a light in sight; in other word, getting on for invisible. As I passed, I looked across to see its driver (40ish, female and alone in the car) evidently engaged in a conversation on the phone that required a good deal of gesticulating.
  • BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - 1999 3.0 530d Autobox Oil Change - hummmmm 15 Sep 2008 (Forum)
(recently moved to prague and this car was the guy how worked her before me, it was very cheap and due to all sorts of silly legal issue's of permits etc I bought it..... as soon as my permits are done.. over to german for nicer smaller Audi that does'nt look like the Titanic) Anway, the car is on 127K mile's.... besides a really frustrating A/c issue and a slight oil leak from the main crank oil seal she runs like a dream and goes like a train....it is 110% at crusing around Czech and German....
  • Another of those - "which car should I choose ?" 25 Apr 2008 (Forum)
To avoid the "big hit" I don't want something new, but probably a year or two old. Budget: Around £16k My thinking at the moment is: Seat Leon 2.0 TDI BMW 320d Audi A4 20 TDI S line Lexus IS 220d I won't rule out a sports car, as long as the boot is big enough for the kit (which the hardtop convertible SLK is.... shame they cost so much!), so any interesting suggestions there would appreciated.
  • Volkswagen - Are DSGs really bullet proof ? 26 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I attached an extract from 4car's write up on the VAG DSG boxes and it suggests that these thing are bullet proof - what do we think - would you trust one - my BiL has one his A3 and I am concerned for him that IF it does go wrong it will be mega expensive to fix especially as a colleague at work just forked out nearly £3K to repair a 4 year old auto box on an A4 (40K miles) and Audi were not in the slightest bit interested in helping him out. "Like the previous six-speed DSG gearbox, the new version has been sealed for life. Clutch plate wear is not an issue says Volkswagen, confident that well over a million development miles have ironed out any issues.

  • BMW 330i sport auto convertible 30 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I need to keep a practical car for the uni run & I am trying to persuade the wife to take over my estate car & sell her old Audi. Reason being I have seen a 330i sport auto rag top and would appreciate views. 2003 03 plate, miles 13500 ---- looks genuine -- car is very clean with no sign of wear and no stone chips etc, but I guess these thngs wear very well.
  • 320d vs A3 2.0TDI vs Leon Cupra TDI 19 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Also they seem to have over-inflated residual prices - 10k for a 60k miler that's 2 or 3 years old! The Audi is a nice car, built well and looks nice, but it just isn't value for money in my opinion - 3 or 4 years old and still asking 11k for what is effectively a small hatch. The BMW is a nice car, a bit too much on the "older" side for me (I'm 28) but a lot of car for the cash.
  • 4WD vs Traction Control/Quality Tyres 22 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I am about to exchange my 1995 Audi A6 Estate for a newer car. Having never had 4WD or traction /stability controls I am after some advice. Basically I am after a reliable hatchback or estate which is occupant safe, economical and comfortable to drive.
  • My new Passat - first impressions 7 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Excellent service and a saving of £2k. UK car, not a dodgy import! And by way of comparison it cost me £200 more than my Audi A4 1.9TDi SE six years ago! I?m obviously tempting fate but so far I?m over the moon with it!! Cheers Pat
