Breakdown cover and pets 12 Sep 2020 (Forum)
However, most longer journeys (holidays, visiting family etc) have an extra 2 passengers, our 2 dogs. So if we did need to be towed or recovered by our friendly breakdown provider, what about the dogs? Would they be able to travel in the breakdown truck if we had to be towed? If not, then what? I have scoured the website of one well known breakdown provider and can find no reference to pets, so does anyone have the answer? -

Not too familiar with this brand and don't see many around but no doubt forum members will have experience of them. Very tempting price if you tow. Cheers Concrete -
Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 02 DCi - No revs sometimes when starting. 17 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I had to be towed away today as my car started and then just died on me after 1-2 seconds. I tried it repeatedly for about 1 hour 15 mins until the AA arrived and towed me away. I have read numerous other storied like mine...... is there a solution and is it something linked to the fuel intake??? -
Highways Agency 25 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I say I do - I'm told it will be an hour - and he takes my mobile number and says he'll ring in an hour and check everything's okay. An hour later, the tow van man having been given duff info and thereby delayed by the motoring organsation, another call. Said info related, and the promise of another ring in another hour. Just after 9 am, another ring (by which time I was in the tow van). -
VW Tourag or Volvo XC90 ? 9 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I am looking at replacing my 5 yr old Seat Alhambra with either new SUV (possibly the new Peugeot 4007 or Citroen C Crosser) or, alternatively getting a 2-3 yr old quality SUV such as the Tourag or XC90. I tow a caravan and need a fairly heavy tow car. If I went for the new Pug or Citroen I would need to get a loan of about £5k The Volvo/ VW at 2-3 yrs old would mean no loan and thats probably the route I will go and i will go for 2.5l diesel but of the 2 which is better?!! -

Covered number plates and parking 20 Sep 2002 (Forum)
They would obviously be quite easy to remove so my question is, is there a law that says that parking attendants can not touch the bikes and therefore can not determine the plate number in order to issue a ticket? Plus presumably bikes can be towed away the same as cars so if the attendants can not determine the plate number would they not just call for a tow? -
Fitting a tow bar - what a job 16 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Remember your hands will take a lot of knocks and become grime encrusted, plus a few face fulls of road dirt. Would I do it again? Probably as I did learn a lot, as I had not fitted a tow bar before. Also I expect I could fit one in 6 hours now, not 9! By the way the dinghy towed exceptionally well and I laughed at all those stuck in traffic jams using the route I had zoomed along a few hours earlier. -- Roger A fine is a tax for doing wrong. -
Towing - common fail D or petrol v costs 19 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I'm well aware of the need to allow turbos to 'spool down' after journeys etc and have done this as much as possible - but it didn't save my turbo! I tow a boat and need power (not to mention friction) for pulling the thing up a slipway - a 4x4 would work for this. My towing weight is about 1200kg, all in. But, I've managed for 3 years without a 4x4 so this is by no means compulsory - the vast majority of my driving is without trailer, and I do about 20K miles per annum. -

Ford Mondeo MK4 2.0 TDCI Diesel 140ps. - Ford Mondeo auxiliary belt problem 2 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I have a Ford Mondeo mk4 2.0 diesel on a 59 plate and have very stupidly managed to dislodge the auxiliary belt off one of its tensioners.I cannot get the belt back on myself so I have a mechanic coming tomorrow morning to tow the vehicle to the garage but i was wondering if the experts among you could help with a question i have. Rather than towing the car to the garage without running the engine could i do the following.... -

Honda Prelude (1996 - 2000) - Towbar for 5th gen Prelude? 12 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Two weeks ago I bought a 1998 S Honda Prelude, got an excellent deal and was generally delighted with my purchase and very pleased with myself. This week I have called my local towing specialist to take them up on a quote they gave me before purchase to fit a tow bar (because I need to fit a bike rack). They then discover the item they quoted me on is discontinued by Witter - and nobody now makes a type approved towbar for my new car. -
Recommend possible new cars for my dad? 15 Oct 2007 (Forum)
He is having problems with it that I will be posting in Technical shortly but I can see this ultimately leading to him having to change the car. He currently tows a caravan that he would like to continue towing but may accept that his towing days are behind him (he also has a static caravan on a site). So to the criteria Automatic Diesel - a must (doesn't want petrol) Cruise Control As many "toys" as possible High Driving position - a must Preferably 3 individual folding seats in back (he likes to picnic a lot and folds the middle seat for their "table" - I know I know but it makes him happy! -
I was an M25 road block 26 Aug 2007 (Forum)
M25 a couple of weeks ago. I am towing the caravan in lane 1 clockwise near junction 14. Traffic is grinding to a halt behind a stationary car ahead in lane 2 connected by a slack tow-rope to an AA van in lane 1. Lots of fraught last-minute lane changing going on and some cars using the hard shoulder to undertake the obstruction. -
Legacy/Forester readers mpg 27 May 2006 (Forum)
Caravan is my sisters, I'm going to be allowed to use it over the summer, but can't borrow her towcar as its husbands company car (needs it for work everyday, I can't be insured on it) My current car isn't big enough to tow (toyota corolla) and needs a big service, so either spend money on it or change for something that can tow...... -
Other than Driver Neglect, misuse or damage - Can someone explain why clutchs "fail" 6 May 2011 (Forum)
I cannot fathom why there appears to be this persistent myth that a clutch should be expected to fail, especially if towing a caravan. From my experience one merely slips the clutch the absolute minimum at low revs to get moving with almost neglegible wear, even when "towing". Then ALL other gear changes should involve virtually no slippage since any competent driver will match gears against revs. -
VW Golf Estate or Skoda Octavia Estate - High Mileage 2 Sep 2010 (Forum)
How long will these cars last for? Is there problem with oil changes or things like that? My other question is does towing a caravan/horse put excessive strain on engines? The reason I ask is alot of these diesel estates have tow bars. Many thanks for your replies. -
Bypassing immobiliser - is it possible 7 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Only problem is, he has to take the car to get the key programmed to the car at the garage. Option 1, wife tows him to the dealer (40 mile trip - wife never towed before) option 2, Somehow I temporarily bypass the immobilizer and mate drives car to garage himself. So my thinking is that the immobilizer disables ignition and possibly solenoid to the starter motor. -
Nissan X-Trail (2007 - ) - 09 2.0 Engine rating on vin sticker 1 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I have a 173hp xtrail, having had the old 136hp i find towing that i am having to change down more often than i would with my old xtrail. The new xtrail is slightly higher geared, and 100kg heavier but with 266 lb/ft i feel that it should actually tow better than the old model, i only have 4k on the engine also.
