  • Should I mention my warranty to Volkswagen before they complete my Golf's ABS/ESP repair? 31 Jul 2010 (Ask HJ)

  • My Citroen C5 estate's DPF system needed replacing after 92,000 miles - I'm quite satisfied with that. 3 Apr 2011 (Ask HJ)
I thought that you might find my experience to be a vaguely interesting contribution to the DPF discussion. I agree that, on the whole, they are probably...

  • Narrow road, pavements and council 23 Feb 2024 (Forum)
However lately there has been more traffic along it in both directions as a new housing estate is being built plus other road works in the area. The catch is that we now get people driving along the pavement at speed as they pass a vehicle coming in the other direction. With some residents being at work you'll get them drive up the dropped kerb allowing access to one driveway, along the pavement and then down the other dropped kerb of another property.
  • Alfa 156 - Would you fix 11 Feb 2022 (Forum)
The car  had it not got broken would be worth about £1,000 I guess with a good engine, needs a new mirror case (passing motorist caught it) and has minor damage on the bumper plus some peel on the boot lid. I guess the sensable thing is to scrap it, yet I am so tempted to spend £2000 and do the engine repair.
  • Skoda Octavia II (2004 - ) - Long term caretaking 17 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Body work should be fine as galvanised, anything else to keep eye on longterm apart from usual wear and tear items, (tyres, brakes etc) Got a bit of a tear in me eye for the old motor going to scrappage, 14 yr old petrol Galaxy 120k original clutch, engine never been cracked open, but needs to much to pass next MOT, needs about a grand spent on it, plus Skoda gave me 3.5k on scrappage, too good to refuse really.
  • Hyundai i10 (2008 - ) - Hyundai i10 or Suzuki Splash? 17 May 2009 (Forum)
I've read some negative comments about luggage room in the i10 but wondered if it would fit the bill for the odd week away for daughter and self plus a couple of cases with the back seats down? Of course if you've got any other suggestions I'd be very grateful too. Many thanks!
  • replacing my VR6 for max economy! 2 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Hi everyone A new job with a 40 mile a day commute means my 1995 golf vr6 has to go. Over the last 2 years i've only had about 28mpg from it, plus the group 17 insurance and road tax means I'm going to be chucking away about half my pay rise!! I only paid £1700 for it, but its done 110K miles, and although mechanically sound and with a recent new clutch (also passed MOT last week with 0 fails, full service booked for tomorrow - fingers crossed) the bodywork is a bit worn, and judging by recent economic trends(!)
  • £1,500 buying decision 23 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Another consideration is that my wife is likely to be driving when she passes her test, and she's only 5' 3" - so she needs to be able to reach the pedals. Non-coupe options I've been looking at include the late old-shape Mondeo V6, the Mitsubishi Galant V6, Mazda Xedos and the top-end late old-shape Nissan Primeras.

  • Selling a car with the least amount of hassle . 28 Sep 2024 (Forum)
The issue is that the car is 90 minutes away, so going back is inconvenient plus not too sure I can photo all of the little marks and dents needed by motorway  due to the car needing a good clean as it has been sitting so long.. He has called out the RAC tommorow to charge the battery but said the last time it was running there was a clicking noise from the coming from the wheels which I am guessing the breaks from sitting unused ( the discs have rust on them) ...
