  ‘F1’ plate on sale for £10m 8 Jul 2014 (News)
  .  It’s alleged that Mr Kahn turned down an offer of £6 million in 2013, but now appears to be willing to sell, with a list price of £10,009,995. The ‘F1’ plate was previous registered to a Volvo S80 and owned by Essex County Council, but was sold by the council to raise money for training young drivers.  Mr Kahn paid the council £400,000 for the plate - then a record - but now appears to be ready to cash in on his investment.  Market experts Carreg.com are certain that £10m is achievable, but are undecided on how high the sky limit could be for a British registration mark.     “Number ‘1’ plates have always been considered as the ultimate cherished numbers and are often the most valuable registration plates found on the market,” said Russell Palmer of Carreg.com.  “Often these will command three or four times and sometimes greater the value of a corresponding single digit number plate bearing the same initials.

  One dealer paid £5,000 to secure a 51,000 mile 97R Toyota Carina E 1.8Si Liftback when even Glasses Guide told him to stop bidding at £3,975. Someone else paid a staggering £9,450 for a 25,000 mile 97R Volvo V40 2.0iCD Estate. And the crazy gang even included someone immune to all the news reports who stumped up £7,400 for an 81,000 97R Ford Explorer on Firestone tyres. If there was a bargain of the day, it had to be an 18,000 mile 2000W BMW 323CI automatic coupe which sold for £19,900 (compared to last weeks £21,400 for a similar car), but only because it came with no documentation of any kind.

  Someone else paid £2,800 for a 69k kilometre LHD 2000X Smart City Coupe. A bright red 46k mile 2001Y but manual with a towbar Volvo V70 2.4T bid to £10,500. a 3,500 mile 04 reg Ford Sport Ka 1.6SE with a/c sold for £6,800. A virtually new 1,178 mile November 2004/54 reg Ford C-Max 1.8 Zetec sold for £8,600. A 21k mile 2001/51 MG ZT-T 190PS Tourer sold for £8,050.

  BTCC champion’s Aston Martin DB6 heads to auction 8 Mar 2017 (News)
  Power comes from a six-cylinder engine with triple Weber carbs. In 2012, it was acquired by John Cleland, dealer principal and owner of Cleland's Volvo on the Scottish Borders. Better known as a successful touring car driver (he was BTCC champion in 1989 and 1995), Cleland purchased the car to add to his private collection and has enjoyed driving it for the past five years.

  Paddock visitors had an immense amount of metal to feast their eyes on, ranging from ERA R5D ‘Remus’, one of the iconic early Grand Prix cars taking part in the HGPCA’s Nuvolari trophy, to Rickard Rydell’s Volvo S40 from his 1998 BTCC Championship-winning season, which returned to racing for the first time in 18 years for the HSCC Super Touring Car Trophy.  Other festival highlights included lively demonstrations of historic Formula One cars and Group B rally cars, the car club displays in the infield, and dozens of competition cars taking to the streets of Castle Donington village for the now-traditional village parade.

  Fast Fords have seen a rise in values over the last 12 months, so it was no surprise when a 1973 Ford Capri RS 3100, perhaps the best example in the world, sold for £49,500 - £10,000 over its lower estimate. Another car that was in world-class condition was a 1971 Volvo P1800E. The UK right-hand drive car had just two owners from new and had also been treated to a full restoration. It sold for £34,875. As you’d expect at The Restoration Show Sale, there were also a selection of barn finds and projects.

  Some of the rarities in the sale include a 1962 Rochdale Olympic (complete with Shorrock Supercharger) that’s competed in LeJog and been featured in various magazines, as well as a 1958 Volvo 445 Duett that once belonged to the Swedish Fire Service and is now expected to fetch in the region of £5500-6500. Meanwhile, a 1971 Fiat Vignale Gamine (usually referred to as the Noddy Car) looks resplendent in bright yellow and very tempting at £11,000-12,000.

  On the second test, a rally-cross circuit of dusty dirt, he performed better, beaten only by the Porsche of Peter Lovett, who set a best time of 4:36, two seconds clear of the Leyland, with the Killingsworths in their Holden third, and the newly-refreshed Porsche 356 of car 49 going really well to post fourth-best time, sharing 4:54 with the Lancia, and the Finn’s in the Volvo two seconds down on 4:56. Mike Reeves in the Ford V8 was best performing Vintageant, beating the red Chevy of Phil Garratt by seven seconds. These two test sessions proved to be terrific fun, and highly enjoyable all round.

  Variety is now feeding in, with newcomer cars such as Hyundais, KIAs and Nissan Qashqais that started to sell in big numbers three years ago coming through in greater numbers and holding onto their values. Most obviously behind book was a Volvo V60 1.6 DrivE R Design, sold for just £13,700. The bargains were in the part-exchanges. For example, an 07 Ford KA Studio for just £1,075. On the other hand, £4,900 for a 53k mile 3 year old Fiesta 1.2 82PS Edge is bang on book, but it’s what you’d have paid last year for a 2 year old.
