Hidden insurance costs 26 Apr 2012 (Forum)
--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 I changed my car a year ago, but failed to spot the problems which can arise when insurance and road tax need renewing around the same time – in my case, the 28th for insurance and 30th for road tax. On the 25th I realised that my certificate of insurance didn't cover the period for which I needed road tax. -
Golf TDI 1.9 - 2006 Golf TDI Disappointment!!!!!!!! 12 Dec 2011 (Forum)
(although im not sure who 2) First problem started after I had the vehicle for 6 months (purchased 2 years ago) 1: was informed the timing belt needed changing after i had M.O.T as the vehicle had 58,000 mile on clock, so paid 800 pound for this. 2: 2 month later driving at 70 mph on motorway.. car totally cuts out!!!!!!!! nearly causing a severe accident!!!!!!!! called green flag, after popping the bonnet i was informed that the cause of the problem was over tightened timing belt. paid 500 pound to get towed to garage that had repaired timing belt as i was only covered 10 mile radious. -
Honda - CBF 1000 motorcycle - smoky, and now won't start. 27 Mar 2011 (Forum)
My first thoughts were contaminated fuel...so I emptied the tank with on of them suction pumps(the type you suck engine oil from car sumps without removing sump plug). I then got a gallon of fresh fuel and put it in the tank......tried it on the starter and bike refused to fire.....I eventually flattened the battery trying to start it, I have it on an optimate as I speak. -
BMW 3-Series E90 (2005 - ) - 08 3.0 325D oil consumption 7 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I have my first technical issue with the 325D and I'm not really sure how to deal with it in the short term. The car has only covered about 200 miles in its short life since new. Out of idle curiosity I checked the oil level today at the dipstick. It was at the minimum mark. I didn't check it when I took delivery, taking it for granted that BMW and its dealers would know more about putting oil in a car than I would ever find of interest. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 1.6 TDCi Diesel blown twice - cause / incompete 21 Aug 2009 (Forum)
She called our breakdown service, which recovered her to a local garage who diagnosed a blown turbo. 5 days, £1000 and a hire car later, we picked up the car and six miles down the road the turbo went again. According to the garage, the new turbo has also blown, and isn't covered by Garrett's warranty because they didn't do the 5.8 1 hour test that is required??? -
Volkswagen Polo III (2000 - 2002) - 01 1.4 Gearbox/Pedal box? 10 Feb 2009 (Forum)
So I am selling it to a large faceless trader who I shall not name, but needless to say, I don't feel too bad about giving it to them! So - the question is, can there be a quick, cover fix if it is the pedal box that has cracked? If the clutch cable were adjusted, might this fool whoever the large faceless organisation send to check how the car drives? I would appreciate any solutions people could suggest, other than to review my ethical principles!! -
Tuning Diesel Methods (How ?)& Insurance 31 Aug 2006 (Forum)

On average what is the approx increase in premium - will all Ins. co's cover a "chipped" diesel - how do they work out the increased premium - from an engineers report on the BHP increase ? -
Pls settle this argument ? blocked drive 27 Jan 2006 (Forum)
having the car at his disposal?. His take is that the utility should pay a daily rate for the whole time it was blocked, even the 3 days before he formally informed the utility company, ?as they should have known it was blocked?. -
Mondeo corrosion problem 31 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Now the question is, is this a known problem on Mondeos, certainly there is nothing in the Car-by-Car Breakdown, and have any of you out there experienced the same. Any feedback would be useful as brother is not going to let it lie and I get the feeling he feels a campaign coming on, not for the first time! -
Biodiesel - Longer Term Verdict 8 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Following my previous posts on this subject I am now in a position to give a longer term view, having covered about 3000 miles on a 100% biodiesel, supplied by ID Oils near York. Car 1999 Mercedes C220 CDI Performance There appeared to be no material difference in performance - if anything the power/acceleration seems to be a little smoother with less evidence of the turbo surge when accelerating. -
Citroen C3 - 4 month warranty.....??! 21 Feb 2003 (Forum)
They don't want to talk to me, but he explains the problem, and, funny old thing, they authorise the work, even though the car has covered 6600 miles. So, why didn't he ring them in the first place (I think I know the answer to that one already!) and what other parts of my allegedly comprehensive 3 year warranty are specifically excluded? -
Changing CV boots. 26 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I like the idea of not removing the CV joint but where do I get one of these cones, is this item most car spares places stock. I only ask because I am in a hurry and need to drive the car 300 miles on Sunday! Additionally, does anyone have any advice on changing the tie-rods; one of mine is completely shot. -
Hyundai i30 Diesel - Hyundai incompatible with BioDiesel Changes??? 17 Feb 2014 (Forum)
The car was serviced in October 2013 by Macklin Motors (whom I purchased the vehicle from). The car showed no issues - although a fuel filter wasn't changed during this time. Further to this the car was MOT in January 2014. -
Mercedes E220 CDI SE Tip - Company Car Allowance - Tax Implications 17 May 2013 (Forum)
Any thoughts would be appreciated; especially any comments regarding how tax works on a co car allowance from anyone currently taking a car allowance. Thanks in advance Jim -
Volkswagen Passat (1997 - 2000) - 200k mile mark reached 14 Dec 2009 (Forum)
If you take a step or two back from the car, it's my somewhat biased view that the car stands up well in design & look terms when compared to equivalent age cars. The inside of the car was one of the reasons that I bought the car in the first place. -
Hyundai Tucson (old model) - Just Bought a New 19 Mar 2021 (Forum)
It does mean that I will have a depreciation risk but with the lower price and 5 year warranty it means that I shouldn't have to worry about buying another car for 5 years. It will probably be my last diesel car. I'll keep you updated with fuel consumption and running issues / good and bad. -
Nissan Micra K12 - Strange oil pressure issue 7 Mar 2016 (Forum)
He also noticed that the sump and timing cover were sealed with gasket goo. I should have spotted this; clearly I'm getting old. The car seems fine in every other way and is perfect when hot. -
Renault Megane,Toyota Avensis,Mazda 3- all saloons - Which 08 saloon? 6 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Comfort and quiet driving are important as is a good radio/cd speaker combination and ease of getting into and out of the car - my Megane seats are very low - probably due to age. I do not drive a lot but I do enjoy driving and being in the car - and so a relaxing driving experience is important to me. I would value any guidance and experience you have with the three cars. -
Nissan Patrol GR SE (1998) 2.8Td - Warm start problems on a Diesel Turbo 3 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Internet Forums suggest that the Nissan Patrol GE does suffer from WARM start problems, and the solution is to fit a new 'Cover Plate (=Advance Plate') and O-ring on the injector. Car mechanics who checked the car disagree. A Bosch Agent/diesel specialist, my local garage, and two different AA recovery mechanics have all remarked in what good condition the car and motor is and how nice it runs. -
Audi TT - Reg transfers - garage is being a b***** 2 Nov 2011 (Forum)
At the time she bought it, it had a private plate on that she was told would be transferred back to the original owner. Well, she bought the car, with the private plate on still, and has the V5 form, so officially, the car and private plate are registered to her. The car needed a bit of work doing so she took it back to the garage, they have had it for 3 weeks to replace the master cylinder in the clutch (which is a joke in my opinion, but hasn't affected her too much as she broke her arm and can't drive at the moment anyway).
