  • Datsun Bluebird 1.8GL estate (1983 - 910 model) - Cavity Wax - Dinitrol, Waxoyl or other? 30 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Recently recommissioned this rare old car for daily driver and "preervation". It was undersealed quite well from new (by the dealer or importer I guess) and has so far survived remarkably well. Now that it is MOT'd and up and about, I need to rustproof it for future. What is the best wax stuff for spraying inside the sills chassis rails //cavities etc?

  • Filming interesting motors & posting links 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
For myself, we are out in the Orient again shortly and I thought I might try to get a clip of that imported ex Star Wars vehicle (do you remember the still, I posted?) cornering. Do you ever see anything worthy of filming? and if you missed the chance, would you like to describe it? I thought two parts to this thread 1) Things seen worthy of a video clip 2) How and where to upload to - from a WiFi enabled phone Any thoughts?
  • How cheap is cheap? 21 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I used to drive an N reg Corsa 1.4 for about 6 years, and it served me well. I'd probably look for something of a similar size again. Looks/cool factor aren't that important, reliability and economy are. Of course, I want to spend as little as possible, but not so little I drive away with a pile of rust. What do you ladies and gents recommend setting as a budget for a car that'll get me from A to B reliably and cheaply for the next 3 years or so?
  • Does having a late service affect the history? 26 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I have recently bought a Mondeo (09 reg), which I understand needs to be serviced every 12,500 miles or 12 months (whichever comes sooner). I understand that having a complete service history is important for resale value, but I don't really understand the ins and outs. If I fail to have any of the services, am I right in thinking that I no longer have a complete service history? What is the impact of being late for a service (saying doing it after a 14,000 mile or 14 month interval)?
  • Disabled parking on double yellow lines 15 Oct 2009 (Forum)
My example would be Royal Avenue in Belfast Chocka with blue badges I "understood" that the double yellow lines were there on road SAFETY grounds So how can it be any less dangerous for a disabled driver to park there Plus with the huge amount of spaces reserved for disabled parking already jat M Ps that veh list one has to use does not include either (I) Steyr Daimler Puch, an official British import for a no of years nor (ii) Mercedes "G" Wagen, ditto as above So I picked one at random {Made non make/model specific. To post in discussion, you only need choose the category if the question doesn't relate to a vehicel make/model.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.3 Correct width for aux. belt. 15 Jul 2009 (Forum)
My dad dosn't seem to think its a problem but when the belt gets that thin surely its only a matter of time? It drives the PAS, alternator and water pump so its quite important on this car.
  • Classic Gear programme 3 Mar 2009 (Forum)
It promised so much and delivered so little. One presenter seemed to regard the engine sounds of the cars he was driving as their most important feature. Another managed to talk a lot but say nothing of interest despite driving an Aston Martin DB5 on winding mountain roads in the south of France - this culminated in her having a 'race' with a DBS which seemed to be run at about 50 mph with fast editing used to make it seem quicker.
  • FIAT 500 (2007 - ) - Fiat 500 1.2 Lounge £8895 19 Feb 2009 (Forum)
It still works out cheaper than a 6 year loan of £8895 though. With the worsening euro exch rate the cost of Fiats and other imports can only go up.
  • Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - Petrol V Diesel 30 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Scenic is good size with occasional 7 seat use and good 2nd hand prices. Low mileage use for SWMBO so economy not too important. Thoughts?
  • The right to drive more slowly? 5 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Is it not so much the pace of the slower car, but the driver behind thinking that they are infact far more important and people should yield to their will?
  • Stop Start and Boundary Layer Lubrication new 2cyl 16 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Do you think the Big and main bearing shells will have been given endurance enhancing improvements on the forthcoming Fiat and VW `Stop start twins? that or different oil additives ? I have always been aware of importance of hydrodynamic lubrication on regular engines so have let them tickover for a few minutes rather than stop/starting when, for example SMBO pops into the Post Office from the passenger seat. Yes, I`m aware of additives and boundary layer lubrication, but it would really go against the grain to let a `Stop Start` engine keep letting its shells get to the boundary layer 200 times a day in the rush hour.
  • 'Cool' car for 17 year old girl 30 May 2008 (Forum)
Many, many years ago I was over the moon to buy my own clapped out Mini Clubman when I was her age...any suggestions for a reliable first car with the all important 'street cred'...how times have changed. Doubtless minor bumps and scrapes will ensue.
  • Citroen ZX (1992 - 1998) - 1996 1.4 Sloppy/Loose Gear Lever 28 May 2008 (Forum)
Moving it around in neutral reveals some clunky noises - particularly at the extremities. Any idea what the problem might be and more important, is it likely to be expensive? Got a cam-belt service coming up in a couple of weeks. Car only cost £500, so if it's going to be major problem might think twice in having the work done. Any thoughts welcome.
  • Citroen C5 II (2008 - ) - HJ's Road Test 13 Apr 2008 (Forum)
This is a ridiculous state of affairs. We are facing ever increasing road congestion throughout the world, so it must be more important to improve urban consumption by way of reduced weight and increased efficiency, rather than a massage the figures for dubious extra urban figures which are impossible to achieve. Mazda are obviously the leaders in this idealist concept and I hope they do really well.
  • Is the art of selling dead? 27 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I wonder if they?ve had it too easy for too long on our shores, long labelled Treasure Island by the big importers.
  • Driving In Snow 4 Feb 2008 (Forum)
If there are several stranded then it makes sense for all to get into one car and use the fuel of one car. I case anyone complains your health well being is more important than the environment when you are sitting there stuck with the engine running
  • Toyota Celica (1991 - 1994) - Incredible engineering 6 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Caught up with an all too rarely seen petrolhead cousin at a family gathering yesterday. He's currently smoking around in a 1991 Celica GT-S Japanese import. All history is fully documented and here are some staggering statistics: 244,000 miles on the clock (he bought it with 195,000) Original engine, gearbox and clutch In his ownership it has been serviced four times and has had the rear suspension rebushed and a pair of CV joints.
  • Fault Code readers 14 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Mainly just to check for codes periodically when I am servicing my cars, as inthe past I have had problems, and there has been fault codes lodged inthe ECU when read, and the dashboard light has not come on (why ??) Ihave a 1994 Corolla, (UK car) and a 1995 Celica (grey import) IS there a "standard" for diagnostic ports/codes etc. that manufacturers conform to, or does everyone use a different one. So of course, does that mean one will need a differnet reader for each car, or can the readers handle different makes, or subsets of makes - my family and I tend to buy japanese cars Any info on this would be appreciated as I know not a lot about this area.
  • Aftersales service 31 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Opened it up and found a big Peugeot branded tin of premium chocolate chip cookies. There was also a thank you letter and the all important follow up questionnaire regarding my purchase of the 407 coupe. I've already had a phone call from the dealer checking everything is ok!. Amazing how these little touches make you feel better about your car.
