  • Daewoo Matiz suffering from faulty fuel gauge 11 Nov 2014 (Ask HJ)

  • Vauxhall vectra sri direct - Running and starting issues 28 Nov 2013 (Forum)
The issues are, the car tends to start without an issue initially, it will then idle perfectly for around 30 secs and then becomes very lumpy and dies, sometimes it will restart and if it does it continues to run lump, when it initially starts and runs for 30 secs I also can't touch the accelerator pedal because it then also runs very lumpy and dies. Now I bought the car as spares and repairs claiming it to be a fueling issue, after spending a fair few pennies on replacing high pressure fuel pump, fuel regulator and fuel pressure sensor and fuel filter the issue still remains, I have measured the fuel coming to the high pressure fuel pump and when running it constantly stays at 4 bar which indicates no issue with lift pump.
  • Hydrogen fuel 12 Feb 2001 (Forum)
Either Chancellors of the Exchequer are going to have to give up most of their current massive tax take on vehicle fuel, or each of us will have to take out a mortgage each time we fill up our cars with hydrogen! Since clearly we are going to have to grow fuels in the future, instead of 'growing' hydrogen in the Middle East or wherever, the question really should be what fuels should we grow and how and where, and how should we then burn them?
  • Any - Superunleaded fuel cost 17 Nov 2018 (Forum)
Honest John says that we should not pay a premium of more than 10p a litre. What brands have such a low price differential? Yesterday, Esso was 12p dearer....
  • Petrol/Diesel + oil additives 29 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Just a quick question wondering if the fuel and oil additives that you can buy in Halfords give any noticeable benefits in performance and fuel consumption, etc or if they have any potential negative effects.
  • Mazda 2 - fuel gauge stuck on full 18 Mar 2023 (Forum)
This is following a very flat battery, for reasons I'm too embarrassed to go into, so various electronic things got lost/reset. I suspect the fuel gauge problem is a consequence of that - needs some sort of recalibration? Or else it's just a broken sensor, and the flat battery is a coincidence. Any ideas/suggestions?
  • Audi A1 - Petrol smell coming through air con 19 Dec 2020 (Forum)
Hi there, Audi a1 issue for 3 months now, full service been done, fuel filter replaced and fuel cap replaced. Air con sensor replaced, car checker over 5 times for any leaks, nothing showing on computer. Any ideas what could be causing this, fuel smell only comes through when stationary or low speeds, spent a bit of money trying to resolve anybody had the same issue.
  • Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI 2008 MK 2.5 - High Pressure Fuel Pipe removal 12 Dec 2018 (Forum)
Hi all, I'm trying to remove the cylinder head cover/manifold but I cannot find how to loosen off or remove the high pressure fuel pipes from the back of the cylinder head. Loosened off and disconnected from the injectors but I'm a bit lost as to what has the best way to move them out of the way to lift the manifold.  Just seems to be no easy or straightforward way!

  • Michelin Fuel Gift Card Offer 16 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Looking to get some new tyres for the C1 in the near future. OEM is Michelin and I'm inclined to stick with them. Michelin currently have a fuel gift card offer on and I'm just wondering what this card is. The value depends on the size and number of tyres purchased; £25 for the four tiny tyres on the C1 which brings the price down to £40 a corner.

  • Nissan Sunny 1989 N13 - Temp & fuel gauge temperamental 27 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Hello, Got a part time fuel & temp guage on an N13, it will work for the first 10-15 minutes of operation and then just die, until its left to stand then will work again for another brief period. I've had the clocks out and the connections all look okay, but with a car of this era those are probably the two most important guages :)   Really don't want to have to replace the clocks entirely, has anybody any experience of this?
  • Nissan X-Trail - Fuel leak 2 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I have a 2006 2.2 Dci X-trail.  Filed the tank this morning and noticed constant fuel drip from under the back of the car when I got home.   Took to local mechanic who says the lift pump from the tank has failed and needs to be repleced.  Nissan apparently quoting £350 for the part and no aftermarket alternative - seems very expensive for what it is.
  • Ford Focus 1.6 tdci zetec 2005 - Fuel consumption 15 Oct 2012 (Forum)
My instrument display which tells me outside temp, trip and how many km's until an empty tank which I can toggle on the steering stalk............does anyone know how accurate the fuel consumption and km's until empty is? Currently my reading is that the car is doing 5.6 litres per 100km. I get down to about an eighth of a tank and im still 200km's until empty which seems high.
