Daewoo Matiz suffering from faulty fuel gauge

My girlfriend has a 2004 Daewoo Matiz. It's a great little car for what we paid and is in pretty good condition with lowish miles and has been reliable so far.

The only problem is the fuel gauge rarely goes above 3/4 full even when 100% full. Sometimes it will get between 3/4 and full but mostly it will sit at 3/4. Are you aware of a problem with these?

Also the gear change is very stiff and often the gears grind a little. I've read a bit about a wire seizing up and causing the gearbox to be a bit temperamental. Do you know anything about this?

This is a 10 year old car that was built to last no more than 6 years. So simply not worth worrying about a duff fuel gauge. But if the transmission has a cable change, that could get worse. It's probably worth getting the external mechanism changed and draining and refilling the gearbox with fresh oil.
