  • Fifth Gear 35MPH head on crash test ?is that 70MPH 12 May 2009 (Forum)
Hi I saw an interesting (well, terrifying) article on Fifth Gear on Dave this morning. They crashed a 10-year-old Espace head-on into a new Espace ? each vehicle doing 35MPH Worryingly, the damage to the 10-year-old one was concluded as ?would probably not be survivable by the driver?. The new one survived extremely well. 2 cars hitting each other head-on, each doing 35MPH ?
  • Toyota Corolla (1997 to 2002) - 97 1.3 Underseal and waxoil- good idea 23 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Hello, My old car is showing underseal wear in the wheel arches, and I am thinking of redoing it. I came across a brand of underseal, and also waxoil for use on other parts of the underside. Does anyone have experience of using such products(especially how to apply for best results), and rate their effectiveness?
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 07 1.8 tdci Steering column 17 Jul 2008 (Forum)
When I fully depress the clutch pedal on my Focus it sometimes comes into contact with the bolt at the bottom of the steering column where it meets the floor. Is this a common thing? I only bought the car, which is just nine months old, a few weeks ago. I'm sure my old Mk1 Focus had a rubber gaiter at the bottom of the column to stop this happening. As this can potentially affect the steering it seems a bit dangerous.

  • 2 litre VW engine uses oil 10 Jul 2007 (Forum)
The petrol engine on my 5 1/2 year old Passat uses about 1ltr of oil every 2 to 3 months. I do about 8.000 miles a year, mostly 7 mile runs to work. The car has covered just over 40,000 miles now and has always been serviced at a VW dealer.
  • New Style Tax Discs 19 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Is it me or does anyone else think the new style UK car tax disc expiry dates that came in from September are more difficult to read than the old ones? The shiny gold numbers & letters may be more difficult to copy (I assume by computer scanning), but especially when behind a shiny plastic disc holder they seem to me to be more difficult to read.

  • Advice for next car please... 15 May 2012 (Forum)
I'm not sure how much difference there is between the versions but the new one seems much better space-wise and I gather is a better drive. I drove a Fiesta hire car in Spain a year back and quite liked it, aside from the odd mirrors. However, price may again be an issue and I get the impression the smaller Ford engines aren't the most efficient. I had a Colt as a courtesy car a good few years back and quite liked it but I think the design is a bit old now.
