  • Honda Accord UK (1998 - 2003) - Informed opinion please, thinking of buying. 26 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I'm considering changing my much-loved 1994 BMW 525TD. Had it four years and it's by far the best car I've ever owned. Downsides are that it's too big for me (just me and missus) and it's not that economical for a diesel; furthermore I don't do as much long-haul driving these days.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - Fitting external music source to a Ford CD Changer 3 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Thanks slt and moved over from Discussion otherwise it'll be "you should have bought a Peugeot/BMW/Renault" rather than the help you need ! :-)
  • Are German Generals badge snobs? 3 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Apparently in order to save money, the 1 star generals P4 car rating was scrapped in favour of the "lower" P3 band. P4 meant Audi A4 or VW Passat while P3 meant BMW 3 series, Mondeo or Vectra. I have difficulty seeing the difference here - is an A4 more of a status symbol than a 3 series? How is a Passat better than a Vectra? Anyway, the bean counters decided that the expected savings involved were too small and the whole idea has been scrapped.
  • Citroen C5 or Merc 12 Nov 2007 (Forum)

  • Police car in 'stealth' mode 24 Aug 2007 (Forum)
heading up the motorway last night and a striped up BMW 5 series went past very rapidly 'advertising' After about a mile the roof lights went off and it sat in with the rest of the traffic. On rounding a bend there he was on the hard shoulder behind a Vectra, roof lights back on.
  • Bikers and Truvelos 25 May 2007 (Forum)
Apology if this has been posted - can't find it in forum search though it was in the news last week. My BMW-riding colleague has often chortled that the forward facing cameras don't catch bikes - must show him this story when he gets back from holiday. A Dunstable biker had been making a habit of riding past three of these every day at 100mph while making victory gestures - this presumably annoyed the police so much that they actually traced him ...
  • New Mini Clubman 15 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Surely the new Mini appeals to the type of buyer whao aspires to have a Cooper S or similar, not to someone who would want the practicality of two swing doors? Or will BMW produce this in limited numbers to try and make it a cult classic?
  • Who designs Mercs? 21 Feb 2007 (Forum)
There was all the controversy some time back when we learned that a man called Chris Bangle had designed some slightly odd looking BMWs. However, although the designs may not have been pleasing on the eye it wasn't Bangle who decided to put them into production - it was top management. On the other hand I like the look of the current crop of Mercs, with reservations about the 4x4s and R series.
  • Which fuel? 1 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Hi all, I have just bought a BMW 530i Sport. My cars user handbook says that I should use 98 RON fuel, but that 95 RON fuel can be used. Which do you recommend I use? If there is a proper reason for the use of 98 RON fuel then I will do so, but it seems most odd that the manual states 95 is perfectly acceptable if it would prefer you used 98.
  • classy coupe 13 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Hi all, The gf will be offloading her 318Ci soon (hopefully), and is looking for a classy coupe that isn't a BMW or Merc. Probaby spend about £5k. So something a little bit sporty (but not too high an insurance group), classy and reliable. Has to be 2-door (she hates 4 doors, doesn't feel safe- not logical but there it is).
  • Buying Mini Cooper, where ? 28 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Is it worth looking further afield for better discounts or do I just have to grin and bear it. I will not be using BMW / Mini finance as cash is available. Many thanks in advance for your replies.
  • Rover 75 - Advice needed 20 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I have been offered a W Reg (2000) Rover 75 Classic CDT SE (BMW engine) by a friend for £4k. It has only done 46k miles and has a FSH. I have driven the car and it is in excellent condition - spotless inside and almost as good outside. I like the car a lot - it seems like a lot of car for not a lot of money - good fuel consumption to boot.
  • The throttle pedal thread. 13 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Mercedes have them, BMW have them(i think) Now the Golf mk5 The new Passat (probably) New Seat Leon, Toledo and the new Octavia.. etc etc What i'm talking about is throttle pedals that are firmly mounted to the floor. What is this current trend all about?
  • Vacuum Pump Oil Changes 15 May 2005 (Forum)
Unfortunately to maintain/increase profitability, this practice is now becoming the norm in many main dealerships including BMW. One can understand the use of this system when diesel engines are encased within sound proofing shrouds, but with an ordinary petrol engine the actual time saving would seem minimal and surely inferior to the traditional method.
  • Decisions, Decisions! 28 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Your thoughts appreciated about which would be the better buy. (Thinking about residuals, running costs, etc) Both are from non-franchised dealers. 1. 2003 03 BMW 318SE Touring. 42000m, FBMWSH, £13799 2. 2003 53 Audi A3 (new shape) 1.6 Sport, 19500m, FASH, £13995 I could put up with the two doors in the Audi and both still have over a years warranty left. I'm all of a dither.......
  • Petrol grades and unleaded 4 star 22 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I know the for and against Optimax argument has raged over many posts but I have noticed that Sainsburys sell unleaded 4 star for just 2p more per litre. My BMW 530 handbook recommends 98 octane. I only recently noticed this weeks after buying the car and running it on 95 octane. The Sainsbury's unleaded 4 star is 97 octane. Is this a poor man's Optimax?
  • buying unseen 21 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Went to a BMW dealer but they didn't have exactly what I wanted but found one on their computer just 200 miles away. Would I like to buy it. 4 years old. Er...without seeing it? Yes they said. There's so much demand that it might go quickly.

  • Rolling roads 6 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I am convinced that my BMW 530d is lacking somewhat in the power department especially as I can hardly keep up with a Golf/Passat 130bhp, can hardly pass a Jeep Grd Cherokee 2.7 CRD and that there is little pull below 2k rpm.
  • Silly car nicknames 18 Mar 2003 (Forum)
This time round, I figured that it's an internal nickname and I think it's cool. The key-ring as got "White BMW 318 G-String". I assume it gets this name because of the look of the facelifted front end. It does look a bit like a G-string if you look long and, well, hard... ;o)
