Hi, having taken my car to be inspected for it's faulty air con unit(bolt had snapped off) causing a new non air con fan belt to be fitted I was faced with another problem. On lifting the bonnet, the oil cap had come loose and the top of the engine block covered in oil. -

Subtotal £1311.11 VAT £229.56 Total Cost: £1540.56 To me it seems about right - anyone think otherwise? Also one another topic. Identical car insurance cover costs for a Charade in the UK (countryside) and NZ (city centre). UK about 500 quid, NZ about 50 quid. Paul C -
A real anorak 12 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Clearing the roof space the other day and found not only my Ian Allen train spotters books but also a gem. Its the Grantleigh CAR SPOTTERS record book which cost 1shilling and threepence. In the inside cover amongst the instructions it says."This book has been designed to assist CAR SPOTTERS in keeping an accurate and descriptive account of vehicles passing a given place. -
Vauxhall Corsa 1.3TDCI Ecoflex, 2008 - HELP!!! problems within 2 weeks of purchase!! 30 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I was messed around saying they needed the car the whole day, and were generally very obstructive and unhelpful. I arranged to take the car in 2 days later. In the two days in between, I had an INSP4 code appear, and from checking the book saw this meant water in the diesel filter. -
Legal Advice required 12 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I complained to my finance company and they did a full investigation including a court approved engineer to confirm the dealer had repaired it incorrectly, which has potentially caused further damage to the car. They even broke something else on the car. I was offered £500 as a gesture but it doesn't cover the ££££s I've encountered so rejected this and opened a case with the financial ombudsman. All costs have been recorded. -
Audi A1 - Advice needed: Engine went within 6 months 8 Jan 2024 (Forum)
The problem is, he couldn’t guarantee that whatever the problem is, would be covered under the extended warranty. So I could be liable for this. I only had the car for 6 months and driven it less than 1500 miles when it broke down. It fell within the 6 months under the Consumer Rights Act, so I understand that the onus is on them to prove there were no issues when the car was sold? -
Audi A6 - Car Accident No Road Tax 23 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Hi, I had an accident on the 3rd of February with the third party being completely at fault along with a witness however after the claim was being processed I noticed my tax had expired a month earlier. It was not my intention to be driving without tax and I rectified the issue by taxing the car immediately. When I taxed the car mid February online it showed that the tax is valid from 1st February which covers it for the accident date. I also paid for the missed January month of tax but my concern is about the third party paying out for the claim. -
Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - 04 1.4s - PO300 ECU code - sluggish, loss of power 27 Jan 2008 (Forum)
The Sale of Goods Act covers me for up to 6 years with any inherent fault. For example, I'd expect a car's coil pack and ECU to last beyond 36 months. Tyres, brake pads, wipers etc I would expect to replace but not these things. -
Court summons 2 Dec 2005 (Forum)
My secretary's daughter has gotten herself into a bit of a scrape. In June she allowed her then boyfriend (now ex)to use her car to get to work while his car was off the road. He was not named on her policy, but assured her that he was covered to drive her car by virtue of his own policy (presumably the usual clause in fully comp policies allowing one to drive another car belonging to someone else as long as it is insured...) -
Yet another insurance claim question 15 Jun 2004 (Forum)
You must say I was driving I think the claim has to be dealt with by your insurance co Im fully comprehensively insured but that means I only get 3rd party fire and theft cover when driving another car TW (driver of 4x4) rang last night. Wants insurance details embrace the day xx -- end -- So does my friend, who was a passenger in her own car, have to make the claim, or does her boyfriend, the driver, have to make the claim. -
French put the brake on classic car parts 15 Jan 2002 (Forum)
However, they said they would not be ordering any more when the present stock runs out because "Citroen will only accept orders of at least 10 sets at a time". If this approach is used by other car makers and if the pressure for asbestos-free parts increases, I see little chance of either OE continuing for older cars or it even being worth the while of non-OE suppliers tooling up for the alternatives--one of those I tried for the Visa pads (listed but all sold) was a frequently-recommended national specialist for Cits and certain German motors. -
Bought another cheapie. 8 Jul 2025 (Forum)
It even came complete with weird old pensioner steering wheel cover, an extra I love to see. The dealer has previously sold the car and has asked for its return when we no longer need it, promising a decent price or a commission sale on our behalf. Though I’ll probably have a pop at it myself as it’s likely to be an easy sell. -
MINI Cooper S R56 - MINI Cooper S Timing Chain Failure 21 Oct 2019 (Forum)
I'm wondering where i stand with regards to warranty. The car is out of it's 3 year manufacturer warranty, and i've read that BMW/MINI parts come with a 2 year warranty, but only if you pay for them, if it's done under warranty, this does not apply, and they are only covered by the cars 3 year warranty. -
Cmax grand - Ford C-Max grand won’t run 12 Mar 2019 (Forum)
The mechanic installed the engine but the car just won’t run, it cranks but does not start, mechanic then gave me a bill for 450 because it took an extra day (even though it does not work ??) another mechanic now has car and has changed the fuel pump and injectors have been primed, various sensors and senders replaced, swapped the fuel injection pump and injectors over and it still doesn’t run. -
HJ Answer PCP 16 Mar 2018 (Forum)
The registered owner does not wish to return the car and end the purchase agreement, however, no insurer will offer cover to a dementia sufferer whose licence has not been renewed by DVLA. Is there any advice you can give me? Answered by Tim Kelly You can only do anything with the consent of the owner. -
Ford Focus 1.6TDCi 105PS - 2013 Focus DPF problems 2 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Anyway its finally booked in to an independent garage on Tuesday but I'm concerned that because the EML is not on now that they won't be able to find any faults. Does this sound like the DPF is full or some other problem. I should add that the car gets two or three motorway journeys per week covering a minimum of 400miles. Thanks Rich -
Renault Laguna Estate - Renault dealer dispute 9 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I have their courtesy car again. Last week the Service manager called me to say they had indentified the problem and it is a cracked sunroof cartridge, which they say needs to be replace at a cost of £2700. They suggested I make a claim on my insurance to cover the cost. -
Mazda 6 - 06 plate 2.0 TS - Mazda 6 - DPF help :( 27 Apr 2012 (Forum)
mazda agree with this and will cover the charges for parts and labour wahoooo :), HOWEVER mazda think that seeing as the car has only done 20k since the last new DPF they think its a problem with injectors which cost about £600+ each and there are 4 of them little b*****s!!
