Volkswagen Passat (2005 - ) - 2.0 TDI Sport DSG Need a bigger car, 05/06 14 Nov 2008 (Forum)
and need a bigger car for carrying stock and commuting around 30 miles a day. I currently drive a 2004 Audi A3 2.0 tdi sport but i'm looking to change it for a Passat. I like the size of it, but i have just looked at the C-B-C Breakdown and its kinda put me off! I like the performance of the 2.0 but would like an auto as a luxury. -
Standing water...ouch 14 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Torrential rain on the drive to work today - I was doing 30-40km/h in a 80 zone, as the water was lashing down so hard I could hardly see, and the road was awash, and the car felt a bit skittish hitting the puddles, even with good rubber on the car. Wipers on full, but unable to cope... a bit hairy, to say the least. However, some berk in an Audi decides that HE doesn't need to slow down, and goes steaming past me at speed. Unfortunately for him the road ahead had about 4 inches of water pooled where the drain was unable to cope, along 15m or so of roadway, and he hit it with full force. -
Mercedes Benz E-Class W210 (1995 - 2002) - 98 3.0TD Oil cooler & new fan for caravan towing? 30 May 2008 (Forum)
For about two years now I've been towing a large caravan (2-axle 1241 kg) with my 99 Audi A4 2.5TDi, with no real problems. Changed to a lovely 98 E-Class estate auto with a 3000TD engine, very well kept. Now I've been given some advice that Mercedes Auto trans. cars need to have an oil cooler for the gearbox fitted and an upgraded fan, maybe even a new radiator, in order to tow large caravans. -
Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 2004 130TDI - Service Due 8 Jan 2008 (Forum)
The quotes are for a major service (all filters etc) I have narrowed it down to two garages the first quote is from a main dealer that I have used in the past and is quoting £270 to do all work needed. The second is from a reputable VW/Audi independent and he is quoting £258 for the same work and this includes an engine flush with forte motor flush treatment http://www.forteuk.co.uk/Advanced_formula.htm . Which the main dealer does not do. -
Least depreciating car - £8,500 8 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Please no Mercedes (potential rust and electronics problems), BMW (potential electronics problem) or Audi (test driven the A4 & A6 FWD and quattro models and don't really like the ride & handling characteristics - feel floaty/heavy). Joe Dowd has been looking for a RX-8 for me for 3 months now (231 model, 3 year-old, around 50k) and there was nothing on the market which was clean and tidy. -
Which car to buy? Accord/ 3 Series/A4 ? 30 Jul 2007 (Forum)
the cars i'm thinking of are the new accord (perhaps 2-3 years old) 2.2cdti exec, 3 series(old shape perhaps 3-4 years) sport/se spec and the a4 2.0 tdi with a SE spec. am not sure which of these choices seems the best option. presume that the bmw and audi are deemed to be more "upmarket" but are they better cars for the money. i guess that i would get a newer car with higher spec for the same money. any help would be gratefully appreciated thanks slight tweak to subject line - PU -
0-60 times 21 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I know 0-60 times are usually a little optomistic as allegedly manufacturers crunch gears etc. I'm now looking at new cars (still) such as the Audi A4 convertible, where the base engines (1.8T and 2.4 V6) look considerably slower than my golf (9.4 second 0-60) - can they really be that much slower - I know the car weighs more but surely a V6 engine is going to be fast - I don't want to get something slower.? -
Practical classic? 26 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I am in my mid thirties and wife is in her late twenties, no kids ? yet.. Current cars in the household are an Audi TT and an E46 320D. If I do buy, it will be replacing the TT. Prior to this, we went through a number of E46s, E39, Z3 and two W203s. Am I looking for a non existent car. Suggestions please. -
Reliable cars? Seems not 5 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Merecedes he tells me isn't bad at all but A class is not up to scratch. I asked what he was now driving - an Audi S3 that has been excellent. Interesting chat though. -
weber carb icing on golf 28 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Ive read a bit about carb icing and found my heat despertion plate was missing so i fitted one with the tube to the air box but icing is still happening. Im pulling my hair out now as i work for an Audi dealer and even the old skool techs are stumped! Ive only owned the car for a couple of weeks and changed the carb as the 2E2 was rubbish!! The weber is a second hand item but was told it came off an 1800 (which mine is) so i cam only presume the jets are fine. -
Replacement for Forester 1 Oct 2006 (Forum)
As my Forester has heater leathed seats, climate and cruise control I would want to replicate these as I find them all helpful. So I am thinking of.... Audi A3 Sportback BMW 1-series Volvo S40/V50 Not certain I want a Merc A or B-class - am I right to dismiss these despite the fact I like sitting higher, as in the Forester. As I have done only 8,500miles pa over the last 21 months, economy is barely relevant, so whilst I'm not averse to diesel, its not vital. -
What company car thread but different! 16 Dec 2005 (Forum)
My shortlist so far is: Volvo C70 T5 GT Jag X Type 2.5 or 3.0 V6 BMW M3 E36 EVO BMW 330D Alfa Romeo 156 V6 Audi S3. The purchase cost isnt so much of an issue, more a loan under £350 per month up to 5 years. however resale in comparison to original purchase price must be decent. Will be doing c.20k miles per annum As you can see quite broad and a little bit of difference required. -
Temperature gauges becoming obsolete? 20 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I know that having a light instead of a gauge is by no means new. I once borrowed an old X reg (1981) Audi 80 Coupe several years ago and that had a light instead of a gauge. What are other people's views on this? Do you prefer a gauge, or are you happy for a light to come on to indicate the engine is still cold or over heating? -
Downmarket Car Auctions 5 Mar 2005 (Forum)
What a disappointment! Many of the cars were in the sub-banger category and were selling for between £30 and £150. An Audi 100 similar to one I once owned new went for £70. Last time I went to an auction some 20 years ago, everyone who bid without exception wore a sheepskin jacket - it apparently was mandatory for dealers!! -
'Metal' interiors 21 Feb 2005 (Forum)
, current model, sedan, made in Turkey) has ?em covered with nice bulletproof black-matte plastic (very Audi-like hehe). My nephew has the same model, same year, same specs, same Turkish wonder (though with an autobox ? that?s the only difference) and... green ?strips? around not only ?B?, but also ?A? pillars. -
Reliability Surveys - Expectations 6 Nov 2004 (Forum)
If I've paid £10k for the car I'm not gonna complain too much about that. If I've bought a Jag/Merc/BMW/Audi/Range Rover and the CD is a little noisy as it slides into the player then I might. How much of it is that genuinely the prestiege cars don't live up to their badge, how much that a Daewoo owner is less liable to complain about a creaking dash, and how much due to Japanese cars being so dull to drive and be in that their owners avoid driving them and fill in reliability surveys instead? -

Leather rim steering wheel - repair 30 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I collected my brand new Audi a month ago, checked it over and all was fine. A week later I found a nick (cut/deep scratch) around 15mm long at the bottom of the steering wheel on the side away from the driver. It's in a position that you can't see and your hands don't usually pass over. -
M3 Sold - what next? 5 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Budget is around £20-25k and hes had a few ideas on what to buy which have included the following: BMW M5 Porsche Boxster Audi TT 225 Coupe (not the convertible - too "girly") Mercedes SLK 320 BMW M Roadster/Coupe Basically, he wants something which is a similar age to the M3 (1997) or younger, which still has the performance, can seat 2 people or more and has street cred. -
