Capping diesel price - today's HJ 12 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Am I wrong? One answer might be to cap the tax take as a proportion of the new fuel sale price. HMG is taking much more in fuel tax this year than last. -
Your planning re possible fuel shortage next week 24 Apr 2008 (Forum)
But just in case and for the sake of yet another different topic.......... A multi point question, more about the personal issues around potential fuel supply problems. (given the current shutting down of the Grangemouth refinery and threats by others to make the situation worse) 1) What`s your plan if there are fuel restrictions? 2) What happened last time in 2,000 and will experiences from that mean a different approach? -
Morrisons - fuel prices increased today 7 Mar 2008 (Forum)
On top of that, the free air and water (yes, water) has been replaced by a machine that you now have to pay 20p to use - unless your purchase of fuel is over £15 The car wash is now £2.50 for the basic wash. Just totally pink fluffy dices me off! Rant over! -
Daihatsu Charade (1987 - 1993) - Fuel leak - general info on pipes etc. 29 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Just acquired a Charade GTti and afetr one week it proceeded to deposit most of its fuel tank contents onto my driveway over a period of a few days. I have tracked the leak to a joint between a metal (corroded) pipe and a rubber pipe. Needless to say its in a difficukt to reach spot. -
Mondeo Fuel Gauge and remote C/L 21 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Having solved the problem of my Mondy's inactive temp gauge with a new sender unit I still have a problem with the fuel guage which is showing as full to the brim all the time whether ignition is on or off. I have located the fuel sender unit which has a multiplug connection plus an uninsulated spade connector around the outside of the unit. -
Puegeot 307 hdi fuel economy 12 Oct 2005 (Forum)
(Yeah well - he WOULD say that, wouldn't he - do I look like a dumb blonde?) No offence ladies. My point is - I selected the vehicle for its claimed fuel economy - 30% below expectation is not acceptable. Has anyone else suffered similar expereince or got one of these cars? -
Why do petrol engines... 18 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Reading how engines work on howstuffworks.com didn't shed any light either. I can understand them needing a bit of extra fuel to start but I don't know why extra fuel is needed while the engine is cold. The only possible reason I can come up with is that cold oil has more resistance so you need more fuel & more power for the same amount of work as everything in the engine is battling against thick oil rather than thin runny oil. -
BP Ultimate 25 Oct 2003 (Forum)
As a long-time advocate of Shell Optimax I was keen to try BP's new premium unleaded fuel. In case anyone's interested, I have now done three full tanks of it and the results look extremely good (summarised below). I happen to think that the car *does* run smoother with the higher octane fuel but that is subject enough to be meaningless. -
Almera Auto weird fuel economy 8 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I have a Nissan Almera 1.6 SLX Auto, 1997 model. The car is great all round. However, the fuel economy, even for an auto, is weird. Can someone please shed some light .... On motorway (or on a run) the car is remarkably economical, doing 40+mpg. However, around town it only does about 15mpg. -
Fiat Punto Overfuelling 12 Feb 2003 (Forum)
MAP sensor appears to be OK but not exactly sure how to test. Did wonder if fuel reg pressure is too high but I can't see how the ECU would know about this, hence how would it know to put fuel injection warning light on? I'm beginning to suspect the ECU but that's a bit drastic! -
Audi 100 s4 fuel consumption 14 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Hi I have just bought a 1994 Audi S4 Avant Auto, it has been chipped to stage 1 level and has 270 HP, it is a great car, fantastic to drive and fast the only trouble is I am only averaging around 15mpg, for a mixture of town and dual carriage way driving, I do drive the car quite hard but my wife drives it mainly and very sedately and the mpg still does not increase much at all. Does anyone with a similar car get fuel consumption this low or does it point to a fault with the car, the car runs well and I use Shell Optimax unfortunately I cannot afford to only get 250 miles from a £55 tank of fuel. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated. -
Seat Ibiza 23 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Hello Iv got a Seat Ibiza with a 17oocc Diesel engine with a lack of fuel problem, the car didnt break down ,I used it one day then when I tried to start it the next day it wouldnt start.its defenitly lack of fuel. I cant, after having a quick look, find a pump other than the injector pump. though the fuel filter has a bleed screw, so my thinking is if the only pump is the injector pump then surely opening the bleed screw would just suck air in. -

Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 - Premium Unleaded Fuel 2 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I looked around online, interested in how i could get better mpg from my car. Started looking into Premium Fuels and it became clear to me fairly quickly Shell V Power + unleaded was the best quality fuel to be putting in your car for longevity of your engine and also hopefully better mpg, i wasnt really interested in hikes in performance as its a 1.2 Corsa. -
FIAT Ducato - UFI Fuel filter leaks - potential danger 9 Sep 2015 (Forum)
On checking, I found diesel dripping from the engine bay but could not see anything loose. i contacted the RAC and a patrol came to my help. Investigation revealed that there was a fuel leak between the top of the fuel filter and main housing. The patrolman removed the housing, checked the o-ring and put the housing back. I was able to complete my journey, but always concerned a leak would develop. -
Honda Civic 1.5 Automatic VTEC hatchback, year 200 - Poor fuel economy 7 Jul 2015 (Forum)
Honda recently looked at this fuel consumption problem. They replaced the spark plugs, checked ignition timing, valve timing and clearances and fuel mixture which were all within manufactures specs. They checked the air filter and air intake system and then carried out a ECU clear and re-learn.
