Mondeo TDCi 130 ECU Update - Help 4 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Hi Everyone, We have an 03 (Oct reg) Mondeo estate TDCi 130 that is an ex-fleet car that we purchased from an independent trader (non local) last november. We are happy with the car and have had no problems. I have read on this forum however than an ECU update was available that boosted fuel economy and improved performance. I phoned my local Ford dealer to see if they could determine whether the update had been done based on the reg number but they said they couldn't. -
Mk3 Golf GTI : Broken ECU 9 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I took it back to the formentioned reptutable garage and the problem has now turned out to be a knackered ECU, which they are wanting the best part of £1500 to replace...parts and labour My question is, do I have any rights as a consumer to question/claim the garage as liable for the damage as what WAS an intermittent fault is now a permanent one? -
Vectra 98R 2.0 16V Cutting Out 23 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Starts normally, no ECU light. After 10 minutes judders once, ECU light comes on and stays on and again car seems to drive fine. Then after another 10 minutes engine dies completely in the space of a few seconds. Try to restart, fail and then leave it for 2 or 3 minutes. -
2005 Citroen C5 1.6 hdi VTR - Suspension Pump 27 Jun 2016 (Forum)
My suspension pump has failed and needs to be replaced. I have 2 questions 1) Can the pump be seperated from the ecu? 2) If not, does the ecu need configuring to the car and if so, can this only be done by a citroen dealer? -
Vauxhall Monterey ABS ECU Socket 8 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Does anyone know where this is? Both a Vauxhall and a respected Isuzu dealer have failed to locate it. It's not where the Trooper's is. Any clues, anyone,... -
Mini One 2003 - ECU Battery? 21 Feb 2016 (Forum)
They refused to fit an isolator switch to enable me to stop the fault from draining the battery when the car is not in use. Their reason being that "they think" the ECU has a back up battery so I will only wear that down if the main car battery is disconnected. Does any one know if a Mini One 2003 contains a back up battery within the ECU?? Or are they just trying to get me to spend the money on a new latch? -
Vauxhall Corsa D 56 Plate - ECU Problems 22 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Fitted that, no joy, 2nd hand fuel pump, no joy, 2nd hand throttle body, still no joy. Off to auto electrician diagnosed ECU failure. After 2 attempts with another auto electrician installing and re programming ECU still no joy. Car will fire up and then just cuts out. In the 2 years I've had it, it has started and run every time without failure a few times the battery has gone flat, but always started with jump leads. -
Citroen C4 1.6HDi 90 Diesel CRD VTR - Anti Pollution Warning Faulty ECU / HP Pump Sensor 11 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Before we had chance to collect the car, they contacted us again to say that the car wasn't fixed as it was still cutting out. They are now saying that we need to replace the ECU as it is intermittently dropping the supply voltage to the sensor. They are also now saying that they had to replace the sensor first as it cannot be tested separately. It seems to me that they misdiagnosed the fault and are now lying to us to get us to pay for the sensor as well as the ECU. -

Skoda Fabia Elegance 1.9 TDi - Alternator? ECU? 2 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I have bought a new alternator now, but am wondering if that is the issue; I certainly don't want to use it if that is not the problem. I have heard it could be the ECU, but I am unsure how to check that. And do I have to go to a Skoda dealer to have the ECU checked, or...? I am, obviously, not a Happy Camper, having heard all this great stuff about Skodas before (being part of VAG). -
Citroen C3 Stop Start Auto 5 door 2005 - Problems with the ECU, Actuator and Car hopping 29 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Put it on diagnostics, uopdated car computer and all the lights lit up, dealer stated that it needed a new actuator and probably would need a new ECU but did not really know what was wrong with it. Took it to an independant Citroen Specialist and he fitted a new actuator and an ECU, then he took the actuator off as it was not needed, however all the cars ignition lights came on and after diagnosis these were resolved exceptng for the battery ignition light staying on. -
Rover 400 (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.4 ECU fault question 8 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Hi iam the proud owner of a rover 414 ! The car let me down a few months ago and i traced the fault to the black/ violet wire on ecu not triggering the fuel pump relay to run . apparently this is a fairly common fault . I studied the wiring diagram i have and decided to earth out this wire permantly to save getting the ECU repaired. -
ECU problem - Hyundai Accent 1.3i 5 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I took the car to my local mechanic who after three hours (£140) of testing told me that he could not isolate the problem, saying it was a very strange problems and not one he had come across before but then thought there was 85-90% chance it was ECU failure. I asked about the coil pack and spark plugs and he insisted that this had been tested. ( Iasked this after being told a friend!) Do you think that an ECU failure is likely ? and how much do you think it would cost to repair- he was quoting me £648 parts and £40 (1 hour) labour. -
Vauxhall Vectra - ECU replacement 30 Aug 2021 (Forum)
The car is 13 years old but it has only done 67000 miles and is ln great condition so I'd like to know whether it is worth getting the new ECU fitted. About a year ago one of the windows was left open and a lot of water got in. One of the electric windows wont open so would that be corrected if a new ECU was fitted. As you can see neither of us has a clue about car mechanics. -
Vectra 1.8 ECU 13 Apr 2006 (Forum)
We changed the CTS and took car back to garage to have code cleared but it wouldn?t. We were advised that we needed electrical check done which we did. We were told that the ECU was giving out the wrong messages and we need a new one and also the coil pack code had showed up again. Contacted local Vauxhall dealers and given a scary price of £742 for new ECU! I asked if we got a brand new one ourselves would they fit it for us (trying hard to save some money!) -
fiat punto ECU light and coil packs 11 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I replaced the coil pack on Friday but on the motorway again this morning the ECU light started flashing at me again, there are no other symptoms no loss of power etc. Has anyone got any ideas as to what could be wrong? If there was a problem with an HT lead or spark plug would my ECU light be flashing? -
Vectra intermittent ECU fault light 11 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Are there any Vauxhall experts out there who can perhaps advise me. My high mileage 96p 2.0SRI has an intermittent fault with either the ECU or one of the transducers. The problem initially started some eight months ago as an intermittent failure to idle which was sometimes accompanied by the ECU warning light. The engine would usually restart without problem. -

Jump starting issues on post 57 plate cars 5 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Is it true that cars 57 and onwards cannot be jump started, and if they are you risk a very large bill for a new ecu. I have heard stories of upto £5k. I don't know how true this is. What technical reason could there be for a jump start blowing the ecu?
