VW Sharan 1.9 TDI 1999 - VW Sharan 1.9 TDI fuel smell making us ill :-( 22 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Since i bought it, the vw every so often has been giving off like an unburnt/exhaust diesel smell which is coming into the cab and making us feel sick. So far I have got the garage to:- 1. change the cabin/pollen, air, fuel, oil filters and oil. 2. checked the mpv underside, including exhaust for any issues - none found! 3. jet blasted and cleaned any oil/dirt/grease from the engine. The damn smell is still there! -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2001 2.0 DuraTorq DI loss of power 1 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Took it to the official Ford garage yesterday, hooked it up to the computer with no clear response.... just a "possibility" from the technician that the issue may be with the fuel lift pump attached to the fuel tank. Before shelling out several hundred Euros in purchasing a new pump with labor, another opinion would be appreciated. Here are the symptoms: 1. The car starts fine and initially drives fine.. -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - 05 2.0 Engine cut out 10 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I had the sediment light come on a few months back so i took off the fuel filter and drained it but didnt notice any water in the diesel. Put it back and all was fine until now. Do people think it is a bad batch of fuel i have got and this is causing the problem or?? Why would water in the filter only effect a cold engine? -
Moving to peak district - recommend 4x4? 23 Oct 2009 (Forum)
So - Would a 4X4 car be a good idea (we know we dont need an SUV - & cant afford one with a cheap running cost/fuel efficiency). OR as driving skills is probably most important, should we just invest in advance driver training & some winter tyres?! A car with ESP? If we want a fuel efficient ish car with 4X4 for £9k, we're tempted by Octavia Estate 4x4 - pretty good reviews & fuel efficiency. -
Peugeot 205 (1983 - 1997) - 94 1.8D losing power at high revs 16 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I've renewed the air and fuel filters and made sure the crud gauze filter thing in the tank is clear, but no joy. I changed the glow plugs too as starting was poor (don't think they can have been changed since the car was new)- this has cured that problem and starting is now immediate. -
Mazda 626 (2000 - 2002) - 00 2.0D Diesel leak 10 Jul 2009 (Forum)
They took the head off and decided it needed a new fuel pipe and injector - cost £392. I gave them the go ahead about 10 days ago now. Yesterday I thought I had better chase them as SWMBO was getting restless what with no car and a 2 year old daughter... -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2000 1.8 Starting Problem 15 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Voltage when running was 14.7 with lights/heater/heated screen on (so as far as I can tell the battery is being charged fine). After I google searched I found the following suggestions: Spark plugs dirty Fuel injection problem causing engine flooding? Fuel pump Cranking sensor Coolant temp sensor I have a feeling it is something to do with fuel, but not sure. It seems to run fine when its running other than occasional slight (up to 2000rpm) revving coming up to junctions when the clutch is depressed (perhaps completely unrelated?). -
Letter to my MP about motor tax. 24 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I fear that the elevated level of fuel prices and car tax will mean it is no longer financially viable for us to run cars. The location of our places of work mean that public transport is not a viable option (I cannot get to work on public transport unless I leave the night before which is clearly ridiculous and there is no public transport to my wife's place of work). -
Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 2002 110 HDi - Leak of precious fuel... 23 Feb 2008 (Forum)
A strong smell of diesel and small tell trale drip from back of sump tray lead me to have a good look today under the bonnet and I found that the fuel pipe with two nuts going inyto the high pressure pump is leaking albeit lightly. Tried to nip up with open end spanner but no real movement, and in any case did not want to make anything worse on a Sat afternoon! -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99 HDi fuel problem? 23 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I have tried taking the battery off to reset the ECU, but no joy. I suspect it is either an ECU problem or something to do with the fuel supply? When it does do it and I switch off the engine appears to run on for a few seconds, could this be a clue? Also last night it now stalls when I take my foot off the gas whilst driving, could be related? -
Fuel efficiency - when to switch 25 Jan 2008 (Forum)
The only other complication is that the Mrs. is taking her driving test (end of Feb), and would prefer not to haul around a large exec saloon, but I'm not sure there's much we can do about that as it would be madness to buy a second car and for me to drive the fuel-hungry Volvo 70 miles/day while she kept the less thirsty car for occasional trips to the supermarket. Of course any trade-in of my car would probably cost about £1k in dealer profit, etc. -
Dealer worthy of medal - Seicento cont 28 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I didnt believe him when he called me down either! So funny at the time. They have replaced the fuel tank and refilled the tank with fuel so hopefully all is good now with 'Mario'. I rang them up on discovering the car there just to check it wasnt a mistake! Turns out someone forgot to ring me to let me know and he couldnt understand why the delivery driver hadnt rung doorbell, but its back and thats the main thing. -
Astra diesel problem 28 Jul 2006 (Forum)
This is not an uncommon problem on these models, but to try to cure it I've changed the injectors twice, fuel injector pipes, engine mountings, cleaned the EGR valve many times and blocked it off, cleaned the inlet manifold thoroughly, adjusted the fuel screw on the pump (½ turn max, and every subsequent adjustment has been within that ½ turn), used Millers fuel additive, checked and double checked pump timing with a dial gauge (0.8mm ± 0.1mm BTDC), and I still can't cure it. -
Bora 2.ol running probs/low mpg 22 Jun 2005 (Forum)
The car was due an M.O.T. and it failed on emmissions, M.O.T. guys suggested a local mechanic who put it on his diagnostic for a tenner, nice bloke, and it showed faults with the Lambda probes, air mass meter and coolant sensor, no suprise since I'd been dicking around with them. He cleared the faults and the car ran a treat once more, mpg back to normal and no smell of fuel. 200 miles later and the mixture is cocked again and mpg through the floor. Changed air filter and spark plugs today, have fuel filter and H.T. leads to change tomorrow, the car hasn't been back on the diagnostic yet. -
Renault 19 Problem 13 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Other than that it runs great, accelerates normally, it doesn\'t misfire, it\'s not using excessive amounts of fuel or oil, and it starts first time every time. It is a 1390cc (EJ6) engine with a Weber 32 TLDR carb. I left the car standing for two weeks, while I was on holiday. When I got in the car again it was very low on petrol, although it wasn\'t in the red, I drove about 6 miles to get fuel, it was ok, I then drove a further 50 miles. -
Vectra DTI fuel problem 29 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Eventually for the first time I called on my breakdown service and Green Flag arrived in 50 minutes and immediately suspected a fuel problem. He was correct and after bleeding the Vectra finally fired up and ran smoothly. We discussed what might have caused it and he suggested a new filter even though the present one was changed 4000 miles ago. -
Vectra Uneven running 27 Feb 2003 (Forum)
The car idles perfectly well and runs quite smoothly from cold and when warm runs fine given a reasonably large amount of throttle. The problem feels like a hesitation and lumpiness as though there is uneveness in fuel supply or an intermittent inlet manifold leak. Reading my Vectra and fuel injection manuals, I suspect either the fuel tank breather system (FSCV) or Exhaust Gas Recirc (EGR)systems both of which apparently only operate when the engine is warm. -
The "Frying Squad" 13 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Just saw this on Yahoo news: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/021008/80/dberg.html "Frying Squad" swoops on fuel scam drivers LONDON (Reuters) - A Welsh police team dubbed "the Frying Squad" has been formed to sniff out motorists who fuel their cars with cooking oil from fish and chip shops in a bid to avoid paying high government fuel taxes. -
