  • Any - True Cost of Motoring. 5 Jul 2010 (Forum)
That car is an old (sub £1000) V6 Vauxhall that replaced my old 2 litre Omega. The petrol costs are not really that high as I only do about 5000 miles per annum. I pointed this out and the fact that his car had already lost around £5000 in its first year.
  • Insure rescued 6 Jun 2009 (Ask HJ)
My wife and I are thinking of using one car instead of two. It would mean me scrapping my reliable old Peugeot and be the second driver on my wife's insurance...
  • How much power do you want and why? 26 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Of course all that is forgotten about these days with modern cars, but i was reminded of it reading a forum on LDV (old post office) vans. They were aware of Shap and it reminded me of old times. So i guess i`m quite contented with little, in terms of power in modern cars.
  • Baby seat help 27 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Due to the fact our baby is only 5 months old, she must be in a rear facing seat, Group 0 I think. I have seen seats that are Group 0+1, they go from birth to about 4 years old. They fit in the car facing towards the rear until about a year, then you turn the chair around and it becomes a forward facing seat.
  • Ford Focus brake pad wear indicator? 1 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Does anyone know whether a 4 year old Focus has a warning light (or possibly audible warning) for front pad wear? Reason for asking is that my Sister-in-Law's car failed it's MOT allegedly for worn front brake pads. The Ford dealer insisted that the pads would need replacing for the car to pass the MOT.
  • Getting my 17 year old on the road 3 Jun 2006 (Forum)

  • New Mini polarizes opinions 6 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I love the new Mini - it looks cute, is well built, well engineered, fun to drive (not blindingly fast but the old one wasn't either), keenly priced, should be reliable, reasonably practical ... IMH it is a great car. Who doesn't like the car and why? (or for that matter who does like it) Preparing myself for a torrent of abuse!!
  • Audi Q5 - Webuyanycar 22 Sep 2021 (Forum)
My car is three years old in a week’s time. Do you think that the warranty expiration in 7 days time will have a significant impact on the offer they’ve made for my car?
  • Honda Accord Type-R 5 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Anybody had one of these? any pointers on a 5-7 year old car. I do hear the are virtually unbreakable. Looks like a lot of car for £3-5.
  • Cats 22 Aug 2001 (Forum)

  • What would you recommend instead of a BMW M5? 8 Jun 2013 (Ask HJ)

  • What should I replace the Forester with? 18 Aug 2006 (Forum)
My father is giving some thought to getting rid of his older Forester and taking over mine. You may recall how he bought mine for himself and then decided he preferred his old one, so handed the newer one to me. Anyway, that leaves me without a car, obviously, as I don't want his old Forester either for the same reasons that mine is a far better spec. So, what should I get.
  • Audi RS4 v BMW M5 service costs?? 23 Sep 2004 (Forum)
My concern is service costs, I have done 18,000 miles in the Mondeo since new (6 months old), and so would prefere to stick with a car without a cambelt (my old SEAT Leon TDi had huge cambelt service costs). Can anyone tell me what experience they have had with service costs on these cars, and any problems that may arrise once upto and past 80k miles?
  • air-con on 1yr old Corolla 22 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I bought a one year old Corolla, 1.6 auto, which I am very happy with. Its my first car with air con, and I must admit i cant seem to get it very cold in the car at all (if you have an air jet directly on you its cold, if not it doesnt feel that cold at all)!
  • Insuring 89-year old fathers car for self and son 12 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I then contacted another company who informed me that I could not insure my father's car for myself as he is the registered owner and keeper. Please could someone advise what is the best /cheapest course of action to keep the car at my father's address but with my son and myself as the sole drivers. and without this impacting on my own insurance costs.
  • Temporary Car - 18 year old 4 May 2004 (Forum)
I tried ringing my dad's insurance company to see if they could provide me with a week's cover on his 1.8 Daewoo Leganza, but they said forget it. Has anyone got any ideas over what I could do? I've no aversion to hiring a car for a week, but I can't imagine anyone agreeing to lend one to an 18 year old, thanks to the appalling driving of others my age. Is it illegal to contact my own insurance company and asking them to cover me in my dad's car for a week?
