  • should my car do this??? 27 May 2006 (Forum)
I decided that it must be some sort of fancy security device so thieves would get locked in (and it stopped happening once I put the key in the ignition so I could listen to the radio)and thought no more of it. However since discovering that they apparently did miss something on the check I am now a bit worried. I have just read the handbook and it describes this type of locking as 'double locking' but says that you need to press the lock button on the remote twice in 5 seconds for it to work and I didn't press it at all, I just unlocked the car, got in and started cleaning!
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 98 1.4 - sluggish performance and EML. 8 Mar 2006 (Forum)
The fuel gauge seems to stick every now and then so I have to guess how much is in there. My fuel economy seems to have plummeted too. My radio seems to be possessed and have a mind of it's own. When it's cold, and I've been driving my car for a while, when I finally stop my fan is on for quite some time and there's a smell - bit like clutch burning.
  • Inferiority Complex 13 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Anyway, got to next junction to find they pulled up alongside me - a beaten up wreck with 4 young lads wearing baseball caps inside, radio blaring out and tinted windows. They seemed to have an obsession with my car. Got home, checked my car and then discovered that from outside my car looked just like theirs, black inside and out makes it looks like I have dark tinted windows ..... combined with the standard rear spoiler and Lexus style rear lights it look just like a young lads car.
  • Vocabulary 24 May 2004 (Forum)
t bat an eyelid at the odd mild swear word, even though she never uses them herself. And you can hear the A, B, C, P and S words on Radio 4 at 6.30 ? not that I?d like to see them all over the BR. So why not lighten up a little, mods? Nothing wrong, surely, with the odd use of carp or something humorously abusive when emotion runs high, especially when there?
  • New car order gone wrong! 16 Jan 2004 (Forum)
My order was for a metallic navy blue car with a Blue Doria cloth interior with factory order options of a FF alarm and radio buttons on the steering wheel. JJ has off their own back decided to order me a different colour that even they do not know what it looks like and told me the blue interior has been discontinued and again off their own back have ordered me a black interior, as well as this they had no records of the options i had requested when i originally ordered the car.

  • How to reduce motoring stress... 24 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Hello Coming back from Gloucester on the M4 yesterday , I began thinking about how the Government could begin to put to good use all the millions of pounds generated by speed cameras. An education campaign on TV,Radio and in the press!!! Here's what they could cover: 1. Lane discipline - if the lane to your nearside is clear , then MOVE OVER! You don't need to sit in the outside or middle lane if lanes 2 and/or 1 are empty. 2.Lights - if its dark or raining , then use them.Check ALL of them each week (including your brake lights)to see that they actually work!
  • Logbooks/Car documents 16 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I told him the post office story and he said I should have gotten it in the mail by now. I didn't know I was supposed to get anything in the mail. He took my name and address and radioed it in with (I assume) my car reg number, but I couldn't hear the reply. He seemed bothered that I had no registration documents, but after a min or two he said I was free to go, which is good, but it left me wondering about the next time I am stopped.
  • peugeot 405 5th Gear Problems 11 Oct 2003 (Forum)
The lever itself is far too forward - and with 2nd, 4th or reverse selected - the lever is at the normal position for neutral. When 1st, 3rd or 5th is selected the lever is nearly touching the plastic where the radio is! There was a problem in that a bodged fix had been done where the bellcrank bolt attaches to the steering rack - which needed a replacement of the rack (And the fact that the rack was leaking anyway) and correct parts fitted.
  • Top 10 Anti Boredom Remedies 23 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I guess there a plenty of BRs in the same situation as me, driving the same old boring journey to work (on your own of course), without being able to vary the route, same 6 CDs in the player that you haven't changed for two months, fed up of all the radio stations, not too keen on building up a huge mobile bill so your mind turns to other things. Top 10 remedies... 1. Deciding on whether I would swap my car for the one that has just passed on the opposite carriageway - not recommended for motorways 2.

  • Shock ! F1 gets interesting 16 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Autosport have reported that the following will happen this year: Placing cars in parc ferme between final qualifying and the race (teams will be unable to work on them, except under strict supervision) Elimination of traction control, launch control and fully automatic gearboxes (possible derogation for all or part of 2003, to be followed by absolute enforcement in 2004, if necessary by standard ECUs) Elimination of pit to car and car to pit telemetry Elimination of all radio comminucation between car and driver Allowing only two cars per team (ie: no spare cars) Some REAL changes which should close up the grid. Finally the controversy..... Villeneuve Vs Button The mental games have started even before a wheel is turned.

  • My lousy Xantia 12 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Problem is the red light that flashes when the alarm is armed now glows continuously with the ignition on or off but at least the screaming has stopped. And altough all the array of warning lights come on plus radio lights etc it wont start .The starter motor spins and then just runs out of puff and lies down and dies. How do I fix the alarm ? Is it just a new Battery to cure everything ? Help needed please.
  • Crime doesn't pay ... 11 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Bezuidenhout said once they realised the kiosk had no money, they took the cashier's wallet, cellphone and two-way radio. A co-worker of the cashier realised something was amiss and pursued the two men. They ran off in different directions - one towards the car (AGAIN!), and the other into the reserve. The man running to the car (DITTO) was observed throwing away a pistol.
  • Ford Explorer - Stepping into the world of EVs 6 Aug 2025 (Forum)
So far, the real range is working out at about 320 miles, that’s with air con permanently on, mobile phone plugged in, radio on etc, so I don’t think there are any range anxiety issues here. It’s a very comfortable car, still getting used to it, but the early signs are promising. Once we get the home charger installed, I’ll be charging at 7p per kWh, and so far the car is averaging 4.2 miles/kWh with me.
  • Hyundai i20 - What year i20 should I buy? 19 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Have had a lot of short term car hires since I've moved back (to visit my granny etc) so open minded about getting a different car altogether but I did feel I got a lot of car for my money with the i20...my model had a lot of spec and perhaps things that other people would consider novelty like the heated wing mirrors, DAB radio, climate control - I really appreciated!!! Especially compared to the cheap fit-outs of the cars in Dubai (honestly surprised my Ford Kuga didn't come with a cassette player).  Thank you in advance!
  • Campaign to stop expat pensions and benefits 5 Mar 2020 (Forum)
I have already written to my MP, the DWP and the PM - predictably no response from any of them. I understand (from a Radio 4 interview 18 months ago) that £6Bn a year leaves the UK in the form of expat pensions and benefits. This money directly benefits competitor economies - mostly Spain and France. Expats have rejected the UK and contribute nothing, but many (most?)

  • Nissan Almera - Nissan Almera - Strange Starting problem 6 Mar 2017 (Forum)
I thought it was the alternator so got a multimeter and with car off the volts was about 12.3 and then with the engine on it went to 14.4 ... turned on fog lights, AC, radio etc and volts was 14.1 or there abouts.   Here is the crazy part, she bought a portable emergency start battery (plug it into your mains over night and then can jump start a car)... So i connected it to the battery and 10 seconds later i tried turning the key and it starts straight away.... left the car running for 10 minutes on 2,000 ish revs ... turned off the car and 2 seconds later tried turning the key again and just clicking noise.... connected the emergency jump battery again and it starts straight away.
