Seats for five tall adults 9 Aug 2015 (Forum)
I need an economical car for a 40 mile daily commute that will on occasion accommodate my wife and three tall teenagers - Possibly even for European holidays? Currently we use a Fiat Panda, mainly for my commute, and a Honda Shuttle (old but good) for the family. -

Anyone used 'Provisional Marmalade' insurance? 27 May 2015 (Forum)
Looking at options for insuring my 18 year-old son whilst he has a provisional licence. Among the options is the afore-mentioned insurance company, which provides short-term cover for supervised driving in (usually) their parent's car. Seems a good idea, bearing in mind that the 'lessons' may be a bit sporadic but in 'clusters'. -
Mondeo 1999 2L petrol zetec - engine breather 7 Oct 2014 (Forum)

VW Golf Mk4 - Temperature Gauge Failure 18 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Last night the temperature gauge on my nine year old Golf failed to register. There was no problem with the coolant level. On the return journey there was the same problem but after about 10 miles the gauge suddenly registered correctly. There is no point in taking the car to a garage with a non existant problem but I wonder what could have happened and am I likely to break down without warning? -

2010 Peugeot 407 SW Diesel - Slow Crank?? 5 Dec 2012 (Forum)
No not the poster although those that know me might think so!! Car is approaching 3 years old and with the cold weather the crank is quite slow to the point that I am thinking about replacing the battery, but they last longer than that don't they? Which makes me think it could be charging system (though lights are fine) or starter motor, both of which are under warrantee. -
Looking for cheap to run estate for less than 3k 6 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Hi, Looking to replace a old caddy van with an estate car (require a large load space), ideally dont want to spend more than about 3k. Can anyone suggest any models to consider? At what mileage or age do problems tend to start on older models? -
Peugeot 206 - Peugeot 206 - what to look for when buying secondh 19 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Hi My daughter is about to buy her first car, and quite likes the Pug 206 (as her mum has one). personally, I don't, but I'll not be driving it. It will probably be ten years old, for £1000 and 60k - 80k miles. What problems should I specifically look out for when I go and see advertised examples? -
'98 VW Polo 1.4CL - Droning noise from engine? 20 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Got a new noise coming from my car as of today. At around 20 it sounds like someone blowing air down a cardboard tube. As I accelerate it gets louder, around 40+ it sounds like an old prop driven airplane. As best I can tell it's coming from the front, perhaps slightly to the left. -
5k Challenge 17 May 2012 (Forum)

I would be the only passenger mainly motorway driving, old car was a petrol 1.2 which was costing me tons on fuel so maybe a diesel. Advice on what maximum mileage I should be looking and age would be great total newbie!! Thanks in advance -
Second hand prices...wtf? 14 Nov 2011 (Forum)
What on earth has happened to second hand car prices? Last time I was considering an upgrade I could pick up a low mileage 3y old Grand Picasso for about 6k. A year later it's more like 7.5k. Is this the same across the board? My guess is that this must reflect price gouging by retailers in the face of lower volumes. -

Mitsubishi Colt 3-door - Extended Warranties 20 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I have never got into these before but our 3 year old Colt is about to pass out of warranty. We have been offered 1,2 or 3 years of extended breakdopwn cover for £275, £409 or £589. The car is well looked after. Regadless whether the same deal is cheaper elsewhere, is this type of cover worthwhile or is it the same sort of poor deal you get with white goods and the like? -

Ford Focus 18 May 2010 (Forum)
Been checking on my local Ford dealers site and there are quite a few 57 plate 1.6 Focuses for sale for £ 6995. What are running costs like for this and are they reliable? My old man hated Fords and always told me to avoid them and some of this prejudice has carried on for me as I was always told they were a lottery to buy. However, from what I gather the Focus is a very good looking and reliable car with good resale and reasoable servicing costs. -
2001 Mondeo Zetec 1.8 - Number plates 6 May 2010 (Forum)
What's the law regarding what has to be on a legal licence plate? I need new ones and don't want one of those poncey italic fonts, just plain old legal lettering - I'm sure I've heard that to pass the MOT, the postcode of the car's original dealer must be in smaller lettering underneath. Is this right or can I just have my reg number and nothing else?
