  • 2002 - Punto 1.2 3 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I have a 2002 Basic four door 1.2 Punto 18k on clock, and in May I had a full service. It was highlighted that I needed new brake pads (front) and they fitted them accordingly. However, 5k on there is a squeeling sound about ever 4 out of 6 presses of the brake from the front. If I brake hard, not an emergency stop, the brakes do not squeel.
  • New car warranty 19 May 2004 (Forum)
I own a 2 year renault clio expression, done 29000 miles and has service history with renault. This week my rear brakes failed due to the brake shoes coming loose and disintegrating within the wheel. The dust from the shoes built up and jammed my wheels up. When I took it to the dealer at first they fited a new clutch. when the car jammed again the AA towed the car to the dealer.
  • cavalier brakes 15 Apr 2004 (Forum)
At the end of the job my wife, who had been topping up, commented on how little fluid she had had to put in. Subsequently the brakes are now spongy and I will have to have another go. Compared to attempts over the years this seems to have not been a success. What could be causing the problem-master cylinder maybe? Thank you.
  • Golf brake failure 2 28 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Continuing on from the post about fluid leaking from the brake pipe banjo-to-caliper joint. Tried to get it done at 2 local VW dealers today expecting them to turn up and just fit a new washer or whatever, bleed the brakes and disappear. Not a bit of it; they want the car on a ramp for over an hour to fit a new pipe, not just a washer and guess what - there aren't any blessed pipes IN THE COUNTRY.

  • Silicon grease on brake slide pins 6 Dec 2022 (Forum)
Can someone point out what I am failing to appreciate. Brake slide pins are metal running through synthetic seals and the recommended lubricant is silicon based. Spring powered air rifles have a synthetic seal running within a metal cylinder and should never be lubricated with a silicon-based lubricant.
  • Ford Focus - Brake pedal slowly dropping - normal or not? 4 Jul 2019 (Forum)
I replaced discs and pads on both front wheels of my car yesterday, and also replaced the drivers side caliper which was sticking. Since then I have noticed that the brake pedal will slowly go down a bit when it is pumped up. I cant remember if it did this before or not however! Is this normal behaviour? The pedal doesn't go all the way down when pressed, but it does slowly go down to about half way I would say.
  • Volkswagen Polo IV - 2011 - Rear brakes - binding 17 Mar 2018 (Forum)
I have a VW Polo with a 'normal' mechanical handbrake.  Sometimes when I release the handbrake (after the car has been left overnight) the rear brakes feel like the are stuck on and they release with a small 'bang' when I drive the car forward or reverse. This seems to happen more in damp weather. I haven't yet had the opportunity to remove the drums to see what is going on but if it is connected to rain or moisture how is this getting into the drum?
  • R172 MERCEDES SLK 250 AMG - BRAKE DUST 3 Jul 2015 (Forum)
After the shortest of drives barely using the brakes the alloy wheels especially the fronts are covered in black dust & it's driving me nuts.  Go on a short holiday & at the end of the first day the wheels look rubbish, so I take a collapsable bucket & sponge & pathetic it might be wash the wheels in the hotel/B & B car park!!!
  • Audi A1 - Jurid brakes 14 Aug 2014 (Forum)
The Front Pagid disc's that were fitted to my car 4,000 miles ago have warped, 90% of my driving is in the city. The VW/Audi specialist that are renewing the brakes have told me that they will be fitting Jurid pads and disc's. I've searched online to see if they are any good and have found there website and that Jurid is a Honeywell company but have not found many forums talking about Jurid and if there any good.
  • Peugeot 306 hdi - Revs dropping when braking only in cold weather? 29 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Hi My 306 hdi estate has a problem where the revs drop when braking but only in cold weather. The car has been fine all through the year since last winter. It only did it for the 1st time last night when the dial read 6degrees? The revs drop to the point where it sounds like it will stall but never does.
