SUV/MPV - Most economic option? 26 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Must also have a boot space big enough to swallow 2 x mountain bikes when required plus luggage. I have had an initial look at: 1 - Nissan Qashqai - seems reasonably spec'd but not driven one. 2 - Kia Carens - I really liked this but the 'Real MPG' on HJ suggests I won't be too much better off, if at all. 3 - Skoda Octavia 2.0 - however I have concerns about the DSG and I prefer the higher riding position of the SUV types but the boot size is amazing. -
Renault Megane - Driving in London 23 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Lastly I was in Croydon the other week, just pulled out of the Jet garage near the A23 and in stationary traffic needing to get in the right lane, signalled right and a Black Nissan came from nowhere on the right and started honking their horn at me. Guess what, they didn't let me go into the right lane. But where did they end up, you would have thought they'd got to Gatwick. -
Looking for no nonsense load swallower 18 Apr 2015 (Forum)
We already have an Avensis estate, which has quite useful space, but I want something bigger in the load carrying department. Vehicles that I am thinking about are a Nissan NV200, VW Caddy Maxi, Citroen Berlingo - all of these are van derived, so hopefully practical, reliable and economical. But would be interested to hear any left field suggestions - Ssangyong Rodius, Chevrolet Orlando, etc. -
Toyota Avensis - 1.8 V-Matic thoughts/opinions 21 Apr 2014 (Forum)
My budget - £8,000 (key factors: cost of ownership, reliability and comfort) My previous car (Nissan Primera Sport only cost me £4000 and lasted 9 trouble free years doing 115K miles under my ownership). I hope to get another 9 years out of whatever I buy next. -
Vauxhall Signum 1.9CDTi(150) Auto - Sever loss of power with A/C 11 Sep 2012 (Forum)
If I'm dawdling along at 5/10/15mph in slow traffic, approaching a roundabout or such like, then I suddenly accelerate to pull away, I find it does not change down gear unless I force the issue with the kickdown, and accelerates like a 50cc moped, on occasion accompanied with a whoooooshing sound - not turbo whoosh (I know the turbo hose is intact as have had it checked), more like the engine fan noise you get from those big nissan or toyota 4x4 monsters......on occasion it's left me in a bit of a pickle not being able to get away quick enough and nearly having someone in my side! If I have the A/C off, no issue. -
Reliable car for a friend 27 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Or she wants something similar to a Freelander ( I told her not to even go there with the real deal ). Heres the shortlist I came up with: Nissan Almera 1.8, Mazda 323 2.0 Sport, Honda HRV 5dr and a Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.0 diesel or petrol. Now I know from my sisters experience that the Suzuki is a sound choice if not brilliant driving, but anyone vouch for the others, especially on reliability? -
Jaguar X-Type Estate (2004 - 2007) - insurance, how to get big enough courtesy car 15 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I've had this in the past, where the repairing garage couldn't provide a car for 2 weeks, by which time i'd like to think our car would be repaired! Anyone got any ideas? 2 adults, a baby and it's paraphernalia and 2 dogs will not fit into a Nissan Micra or similar. What do other people do? Is it a case of 'you get what you pay for' and you have to go with a long established insurer or is it knowing what to ask for? I'm not convinced we've got the proper cover at the moment. -
Ordered new car - don't need it! 29 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Back in May I sold my Nissan QX to a member of the BR. He's quite happy with it apparently. Just prior to the sale I'd placed a factory order for a new Subaru Impreza. Shipping from Japan has been delayed a bit - its on its way but not arriving until late July, so I've asked the garage to hang on to the car and put it on a '57 plate on September 1st. -
Jaguar car co for sale? 4 Aug 2006 (Forum)
The strategic alliance is a buzzword in the American car market at present. General Motors is in talks with Renault and Nissan about striking such a venture to help to turn round GM?s operations. Jaguar revenue has plunged in the past two years, despite a boom in global luxury car sales. It is estimated that the company sold 41,000 Jaguars in the first half of 2006, compared with 118,000 in 2004. -
American Road Trip 27 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Stopped at 11:00a.m., tho. Guy at Hertz couldn't see why I wanted a convertible, and pressed me to take a Nissan 350z. If I hadn't read the weather forecast I might have been tempted! Drove down Route 1 (including 17 mile drive) in bright sunshine. Magic journey; the sign the says "Hill and curves for the next 67 miles" doesn't fib! -
Simmering a turbo "properly"? 21 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I've recently become the very happy owner of a 1998 Nissan 200SX (an awful lot of car for not much money) - and I want to make sure I look after the turbo properly. I understand the concept of giving the engine (and thus the oil) a few minutes to warm up before caning the car, and I've also read about "simmering" the turbo after a run by leaving the engine running for a moment or two at idle, which gives oil time to pass through the system and cool the turbo a little before switching off. -
New Van Update - Take delivery Thursday 23 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Having been told the van would definitely be ready on the Friday of this week (New Nissan Primastar LWB). I gently pursuaded them to do everything they could to get it to me by Thursday. I took the insurance cover note in Wednesday and the salesman said they had done one job on it and the second job would be ready later that day. -

Labour rates top £150 per hour 19 Jun 2004 (Forum)
t accept the first price you?re given.? Mazda has the lowest average labour bills of £44 followed by Nissan, Seat, Fiat and MG Rover on £46. Lexus leads the table with the most expensive average charge of £78 an hour, £1 more than Mercedes, £3 more than Jaguar and £5 more than Porsche. Although initiatives introduced by the European Commission last October were aimed at encouraging cheaper repair and servicing bills, Warranty Direct says labour rates at franchised dealers have increased 8% in the last year and 71% since 2000 -
Golf service 15 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Bearing in mind that I paid about 6k for it (PAS, electric windows + roof) is spending about 1k worth it (I realise that clutch and brakes are quite important!!)and buy something else (fancy either Mazda 323 or Nissan Almera). I had thought today was going to be good until this happened. I then went to the bank where I nearly got clobbered by an exploding man hole cover (missed it by 30 secs!). Best not go out tonight! -
You'd banger believe it. 23 Dec 2002 (Forum)
"Man gets stolen car back - in better condition 20 December 2002 A Londoner whose old banger was stolen got it back - in better condition than before it was taken. The Sun reports that the F-reg Nissan Sunny, which belonged to 25-year old Jonny Newman from West Hampstead, had a broken temperature gauge, fuel gauge and stereo when it was stolen, and it also overheated whenever it went over 40 mph. -
HELP!! New car wanted for new me-I'm 40 now!!! 14 Apr 2002 (Forum)
I've looked at, so far, (thanks for patience you dealers whose time I've taken up) Audi-All models seem a bit bland Ford-Puma, loads too many around Cougar-nothing to say for itself Alfa-mostly for blokes Hyundai-old model coupe' has lots of curves, bit like me,but why is everone who drives them 55+?? No offence!! I did say I was 40!! Nissan 200 SX-Liked this, but they forgot to fit sunroofs, instead put in too much VROOM! All the ones I've seen have been bumped ! No girlies driving them either! It's a bit wide on the body too, a bit like me, not I hope! -
The Third Way? 26 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Local mall has a 4wd/truck event this week, with all the glittering favorites on display parked at funny angles with the tire black still wet, and young things with absolutely no product knowledge handing out brochures, but who cares they look so nice in those short skirts. We note as expected the serious stuff like the Dodges, Fords, big Toyotas, Nissans etc. And then we come to the BMW. Or what I took at first sight to be a restored 1996 Kia Sportage till I saw the badge and the price. Is it a 4WD? Well it says so, but the Honda CR-V looks more the part and I wouldn't call that a proper 4WD. -
Skoda Fabia 13 Jun 2001 (Forum)
I think the summer weather may have improved things (I commented on this the other day in the ULSP thread) but it is possible that it needs a fair bit of running in - I had the same thing on my old Nissan. I'd be interested to know what anyone thinks the long term reliability is going to be like. Is it going to be about average or will it be a bit of a dog? -
Dacia / Duster - SUV recommendations 29 Jun 2020 (Forum)
The fact that it’s considerably cheaper than others raises my eyebrows https://www.evanshalshaw.com/search/details/nissan/qashqai/manual-petrol-black-hatchback-pn15cxd/ We live in semi-rural Northamptonshire for ideas red usage. Many thanks in advance.
