  • Volkswagen Golf VI (2009 - ) - Shall I, or shan't I? 3 Jan 2009 (Forum)

  • Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 99 1.1 - battery replaced, now won't start 6 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I haven't heard the car run, but he tells me it was fine before (while giving me that 'why have you broken my car' look!) Interestingly, the radio/interior light circuit are also dead, but fuses are fine. He fitted a new stereo to it, but again said it was working fine before i took the battery off and recharged it. Any help gratefully received!!
  • Credit Crunch Takes it's toll: Volume 2 [ReadOnly] 31 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I have some professional track record in the media as an unknown freelance, having done news and foreign reporting, a column and a certain amount of comment of various sorts in obscure and sometimes better-known papers and on radio. No TV because cameras and lights make me perspire which is a no-no. People like me who want to do TV these days probably inject themselves with that wrinkle-removing poison stuff, bolox or something, which prevents perspiration.
  • Excessive oil company profits? 1 May 2008 (Forum)
A couple of oil companies made about £7billion profit in first quarter of this year - that's about £28 billion per year. That's a lot, thinks I on hearing it being discussed on radio news but at least only a small proportion comes from petrol and diesel sales; at least these companies do the exploration, the drilling, refining, distribution, and the oil is turned into a multitude of different products etc., etc and they are huge companies who employ thousands and pay dividends to shareholders (including my pension fund I hope).
  • Rover 45 (1999 - 2005) - 2003 1.8 IXS Auto - does anyone know this model? 3 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I have just bought an 03 '45' after moving from Renault and I am really pleased with it, but want to know a couple of things wjich may seem basic to the forum, so please humour a pensioner! 1. The car has only done 19K and is immaculate with all the books/service docs. There was a radio code for it, but not a Key Accesss Code. Do I need this and where can I get it from? 2. The vehicle is a pale metallic blue, but don't know the colour. How do i find this and order a touchup stick (not that I need it yet)?

  • 07 - Citroen VTX Electrical problems. 29 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Without any warning the sat nav/operations screen that is built in will all of a sudden turn off, and everything goes black. If I then push the on/off button for the radio it all comes back on. This used to happen when ever I went over a bump, but last week it did it when I was stationary, also this particular time all of the suspension dropped and the warning sign came on telling me that the car had gone into lower positioning, and the sat nav screen then came back on.
  • Have you read your car handbook? 15 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I rememeber for my last Scenic, after about 18 months I discovered it had self locking doors, RDS TA function on the radio and seat height adjustment! The reason I did this was I was stuck in an (engine switched off tailback) for 2 hours so decided to pass the time by reading the handbook! Have you ever found out something you didn't know from your car handbook?
  • Accidents involving police cars 30 Jun 2005 (Forum)
There was a report on the radio this morning saying that there has been a big increase in the number of people involved in accidents with police cars. One would assume these would include a lot of police cars that are involved in pursuit actions.
  • Mk1 Mondeo problem! 9 Feb 2005 (Forum)
However the car will act like the key is turned to position 2 on the ignition. (hence lights, heating, radio works). Sometimes when I go the start to the car, the engine turns over, but fails to ignite, this only occurs when the car hasnt been driven for a few days. It also occurs in wet and dry conditions.
  • I was carjacked last night (almost) 2 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Keep 'em locked. Five minutes after the police came (within a few minutes) there was a call over the radio.... the gang struck again and dragged a guy out of his Golf GTI and drive off with it. I keep shivering at remembering the sight and sound of the hammer hitting the window. -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
  • Fiat Panda 24 Feb 2004 (Forum)
The Panda cost just over £5,900 with metallic paint and is group 1E insurance. It's got front electric windows (with one-touch on driver's side), a fairly decent quality radio-cassette, comfortable seats, and a surprisingly nippy engine. OK, the engine's not exactly warp drive, but I was surprised at how good it was (I usually drive a 2.0HDi Picasso). You probably wouldn't want to do many long journeys in it, but that's not what the car's designed to do.
  • Scenic intermittent (aagh!) electrical 3 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Just not resetting the immobiliser. The strange thing is, when the car does start it has reset the clock and trip odometer and the radio key-code has to be re-entered. Every now and then when returning to car it is 'dead' to remote unlocking - no door unlocking/locking or sign that the remote is doing anything. If you open the door with key it will eventually allow the remote to disable the immobiliser after turning the ignition key a few times and/or clicking the remote a bunch of times.
  • How to get shot of scrap cars 17 Sep 2003 (Forum)
After advertising it for spares/breaking in the paper, I managed the following Alloy wheels with poor but legal tyres £65 Windscreen for another car to get thru MOT £15 Salvaged battery, radio, bulbs, fuses etc Rest of car taken for gearbox and other bits by garage £45 Total revenue to me £125 Earlier experience - A mini bought for £15 off a contact and dismantled in a street in Leicester, just to get rid of it!
  • My Ford Fiesta Review 8 Oct 2011 (Forum)
It feels well built, pretty solid and rather chunky. The steering wheel is big and heavy, the indicators make a reassuring clunk and the radio unit is well designed and reminds me of a Nokia. Im 6ft and theres more than enough headroom, and with the seat fully back im too far from the pedals so a taller driver should have no problem in the Fiesta.
  • MINI Clubman - Dealers selling privately 29 Dec 2023 (Forum)
I used gumtree and found a mini listed under a private sale. he stated the timing chain had been done and a full service history with the last being done by a mini specialist nearby.    I bought the car and within a week it started having issues. Radio stopped working, slow puncture, drivers window kept sticking open and various warning lights showed up on the dash. Checked using the obd reader and faults related to the oxygen sensor reading high.
  • Jaguar Land Rover - Indicator sound too quiet/Sat nav voice too loud 7 Oct 2023 (Forum)
The default sound level should be loud enough to be heard-it's nonsense spouted by JLR to say a safety warning shouldn't intrude on refinement - Jaguar cars in the past have been noted for refinement even though the indicator sound is clearly audible. As a suggestion, radios for a long time have had automatic volume increase as speed increases so why not on indicator volume? Another common complaint on JLR models(the reverse of quiet indicator noise) is the fact that the Sat nav volume cannot be adjusted below a pre adjusted volume & in this case can be too loud(Evoque for example has a minimum sat nav guidance level of volume 20).
  • 2010 fiat 500 - My gf Fiat wont start after changing break bulbs!! 26 Jan 2021 (Forum)
I got the unit out which has 5 small bulbs, I checked them all and none of them looked dead, so I moved them around and pushed them in better to have a better connection and when I checked 4 of them were working so I got the non-working 1 out, looked perfect put it back in and I think it gave a bad connection or something as all the back car lights went off as well as the lights from the speedometer which comes on the second position of the key, only the mileage and clock is on the dash board now. The radio lost all the saved stations but it is working still. I checked the fuse box and found small fuse number 30 gone, so I bought new ones from Halfords and replaced it but the car still won’t start and the rest of the indicators on the speedometer won’t come on.
  • BMW 120i Sport auto 2015 - Electrical glitches 24 Jan 2019 (Forum)
After driving for 5 minutes the instrument cluster burst into life and everything (including the indicators) worked normally for the duration of the journey   My initial thoughts were that the main car battery could be failing – I owned a 2009 BMW 320d prior to this and noted certain facilities (heated rear window/stop-start function/radio when engine off etc.) began to stop working before I replaced the battery. All functions were restored on replacing the battery on my 320d. However, the 320d was 6 years old with 120k on the clock before I began to notice signs of battery failure so I wouldn’t expect this with my current 3 year old/35k car Any thoughts on where these electrical issues may lie?
  • Nissan Micra se 2003 - Can I use a 2nd starter button with original one? 7 Dec 2017 (Forum)
I've read other people saying that when they have had the same problem, their car will start with a bump, so I'd think an extra switch would solve the problem and save me from having to set the radio code and the computer up each time. My main concern is, if I left the original starter wire going to the small starter terminal, when I turn the new starter button on, could it damage the relay on the original wire or anything by sending power up the original wire.
