  • TFL spurious penalty charge 15 Oct 2006 (Forum)
The car was NOT in London on the day in question (it's been there about twice this year). I 'phoned them, and they said the car booked was a Vauxhall, mine is a Nissan. They confirmed this very quickly, and agreed there was a conflict between registration number and manufacturer of car booked. Do they have a direct line to DVLA? I asked for photographic confirmation of the offence, they said ther was none available.
  • Cheap sports car 27 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I want the car to be relatively low maintenance and reliable (within reason for the age). I'm looking at possibly one of the following: Nissan 200SX (94-00 model), Honda Prelude (either models - like the looks of the older one, but think that the more recent one will be less trouble as it is more modern), Honda CR-X, Mazda MX-5, BMW 3 series coupe (or convertible), BMW Z3.
  • Winners & Losers of 2005. 25 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Seat & Smart both down 14.4%, Peugeot down 14.0%, Renault down 7.7%, Citreon down 5.7%, Ford down 5.3%, Mazda down 4.3%, Volvo down 4.1%, Nissan down 3.9%, Hyundi down 2.6% and Vauxhall down less than Ford at 2.4%.
  • irresponsible OLD drivers! 30 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Driving up the M1 yesterday morning. Traffic heavy but motoring reasonably well. In a line of traffic which included Nissan Skyline, BMW M3 csl and Disco 3 and my Scooby. Pick up a flash of colour in the mirrors - yellow. It gets closer and looks like Ferrari F40. It is weaving in and out of lanes and frequently straddling lanes.
  • Citoien C5 3yo - a good buy? 26 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Autotrader shows plenty of three year-old C5 HDIs at £5,000 or under -- there's even a resaonable choice at around £4,000 and not all of them have crazy mileages. That's amazingly cheap -- the same sort of money as an equiavlent age Nissan Almera, and a lot less than a Berlingo HDI. Those HDI engines sound reliable, and other posters suggest that the suspension problems are cured by Citroen's fix. It seems that there are a few duff ones around, but www.carsurvey.org also shows some very satisfied owners.
  • Skoda Car Seat Comfort & Back Pain 19 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I have sufferd from back pain for many years, not helped by being 6' 2" tall. I currently have a Nissan Primera 1997 GX with 106k on the clock and am looking to replace it because the gearbox is getting clunky and gas struts have lost their push. However the drivers seat is good for me. I looked at new cars for over a year.
  • Away to Europe- in what? 24 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Maybe I'm just getting old, but I seem to be worrying a lot more! I did almost the same trip in 1998, and just got in my battered 1987 Nissan Sunny and did the whole trip with no hassle at all. I just don't really want to spend the whole holiday by the side of the road with a broken Jag and Mrs O trying hard not to say "I told you so."
  • Whats a good price for my sisters Micra? 25 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Hello everyone, my sister is thinking of selling her Micra (once the throttle body is fixed), and i was wondering how much users on this forum thinks its worth. The car is a 1994 L, Nissan Micra 1.3LX, its three door, silver metallic, 85000 miles, its been very well looked after by my sister (sadly she has lost most of the service history in the house move). Its had - 4 new tyres, regular services, synthetic oil changes every 5 months or 5000 miles (which ever comes soonest), its recently had the rear of the car professionally resprayed (paint was slightly faded), the interior is always clean (i used to be a professional valet), its had the known micra problems fixed - including the front cross member, and its just had the original gearbox reconditioned and a new clutch fitted (both have 11 months warranty left), and the car has september 05 mot, and june tax. she has set her sights on a T-reg Clio hence the sale of the Micra.
  • VW TDI misfire solved! 14 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I've heard of blocked fuel tank vents bringing vehicles to a stop, but it seemed too simple. Today, before going to work, I removed the fuel filler cap (which is a Nissan one for some reason - been on the car since I bought it). Placed a strong piece of plastic sheeting tightly over the filler neck, secured in place with an elastic band, and made a small hole in the plastic.
  • Taxi! 14 Dec 2003 (Forum)
The cabbies even send speed trap alerts to each other using the system. Makes the beat up, dirty, old Toyotas and Nissans that ply my neighbourhood look decidedly low rent, though at £40 for a twenty minute ride, Swedish comfort and accuracy of journey does not come cheap.
  • Re: Used car that's been sitting around 2 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Dear all, A friend of mine is considering purchasing a 2001 Y Nissan Micra 1.0S from a local garage. The trouble is that the car has been for sale at a good local independent garage for 18 months now. The car is in excellent condition, and at a good price. It's done 11K, so probably had a busy first year as a rental fleet car, then bought at auction and has sat around since.

  • Criteria for a Motorway Patrol Car 20 Oct 2003 (Forum)
The reason I ask is, I would imagine cost would be high on the list; I've seen a lot of Range Rovers, Discos, the odd Nissan Patrol, Terrano II, Isuzu Trooper and on one occasion even a Merc ML - What is the justification for running a 4X4 as a motorway patrol car over say a Vx 3.0 Omega estate or a Volvo T5 V70 for example?
  • Faulty alternator 1 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Last year the alternator on my '94 Nissan Primera had to be replaced for the first time, along with the battery. In April of this year after only 14 months wear and 12000 miles I started to experience problems with the battery light coming on.
  • Car for missus 8 Jul 2001 (Forum)
What about the MGF -- are they cheap for a good reason? What else should we consider - I reckon on the Interga type-R, Nissan 200zx, New Mini (Cooper - suspect it will have better resale and gets more kit for not much more money), Ford Puma. I want something that's pretty depreciation resistant - so 3 year old or more for starters (except New Mini), has plenty of go and is fun for her to drive (so she stops pestering me to let her drive my Caterham..).
  • MOT Lambda reading update 18 May 2001 (Forum)
Last night I added 15ml of injector cleaner to about 15 litres of ULSP in the tank and drove at speeds of up to 60mph in third and a good 70mph in fourth for about 5 miles on the motorway. I repeated the driving procedure to my local Nissan main dealer for an MOT this morning (a distance of 6 miles). It passed the MOT test with flying colours. I am still very suspicious of the results from the other while-you-wait; free re-test concern.
  • More proof salesmen are idiots 29 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Its big enough for us but the cheaper and better equipped Mazda CX5 is probably a bit bigger, shame I have no faith in the 2 litre non-turbo petrol being up to the job. The Nissan Quashqai is smaller and probably not quite big enough but the Nissan X-Tail is little more expensive and considerably bigger. That is definitely a contender. Now the fun starts. Need to get test drives in petrol cars and no one has demonstrators.
  • Leo the Leaf replacement 23 May 2025 (Forum)
Finally bought a replacement for SWMBO’s much beloved Nissan Leaf. After viewing numerous tatty Leaf’s, and several overpriced Kia Niro’s most with zero history (so no battery warranty) and poor accident repairs, we’ve bought a 22 plate 18,000 mile VW ID3 58kwh Pro Performance Max instead - bring back L/LX/GL etc.
  • Advice on second hand car purchase 17 May 2024 (Forum)
I do a longer run to Oxford from Liverpool about once every 6 weeks or so. Budget is about £6,000. For some reason I've been drawn to some cheap second hand Nissan Leaf's (some within that budget with really low miles on auto trader near me) but I'm so in doubt of my own decisions after the last couple of cars that I'm hoping some clever folks on here can give me some pointers!
  • Suzuki Vitara - Part Serivce History low mileage 28 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Not sure what to make of this - the car has obviously only been doing 3k miles a year (MOT history bears this out) so my concern would be a combination of short journeys and infrequent service intervals not being very good for the engine, or would this be not too much of an issue at this mileage? Seller is a Nissan franchised dealer. Should I cross this one of my list or is it worth pursuing?  Would love to hear your thoughts. Tina
