  • Ford Sierra 2.0 1993 - Water loss 9 Mar 2014 (Forum)
I have inherited a 1993 Ford Sierra from a cousin. He bought car new in 1993 and has only done 50,000 miles. Car kept in heated garage and serviced every year even though it has covered less than 2000 miles a year for last 10 years. I have an unexplained problem which previous owner also had.
  • Seat/Audi/Skoda. - Advice, what do you think is best? 11 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I currently own a 52 A4 Audi Avant 1.9 TDI with 164K on the clock and in the next 10K I am going to need a replacment time belt and water pump @ £450 I do @ 14K per year to and from work etc and this is mainly motorway miles. Now I am thinking that if I were to keep the car for another 4 yrs it will have covered over 200k and the residual value will be very very little. However if I trade it in now I would probably get around £1500 On another note if I do keep the car and loose what ever residual value I have left I will still be faced with getting a loan for a newer car and having to borrow extra.
  • Mazda MPV 2002 - Discovered fault after 3 weeks, where do I stand. 5 May 2010 (Forum)
I checked the coolant level and found the header tank empty and it took a litre to refill, after which we started to get warm air back through the heater - obviously there wasn't sufficient coolant in the system to feed the heater matrix. I then discovered a fairly significant leak coming from the rear of the car, as it's fitted with rear heaters.  Today I informed the dealer from whom we purchased the car who says we only have a 'power-train' warranty on the car and we're not covered for this fault. When we purchased the car we were given no documentation on the warranty at all so is this just a get out clause for dealers to claim they're not liable for any fault they deem not connected to engine or gearbox?
  • Daewoo Nubira (1997 - 2003) - Myriad of faults 16 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I *might* be able to get one from Australia for £60. 3) Oil leak from the cam cover -- cheap fix but it all mounts up. Not too serious, losing maybe a third of a litre of oil every 1000 miles. 4) This is the new one -- a loud bang from the underside of the car every gear-change.

  • Mondeo DCi ST 160 'Flooded' 16 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Guess what happened? The last car he saw go through must have dropped its undertray as it was bits of the previous car that we pulled out from the mangled and folded back remains of his car's undertray. Even though it was at a safe speed, the debris (hidden under the water) got caught under his car ripping off the tray and causing a large amount of water to be deflected upwards into the intake.
  • brakes that don't brake, but break 29 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I'd be grateful for comments on the following: The car is a '97 fiesta with solid 240mm front discs, and I've had nothing but grief with the brakes. The car has covered 73K miles under my ownership, and to say it eat discs is a huge understatement. I think it is on the 5th set of discs, and at least the same the number of pad sets.
  • deposit and breach of contract 2 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I saw a used car valued at £12,000 at an independent dealer and put a deposit of £500 down. A trade in on amy old car worth £5,000 was also agreed as part of the deal. The deposit was paid on the condition that work was done to the car.
  • What's "reasonable"? 29 Apr 2015 (Forum)
When I wrote to the dealer about it, they offered to refund the vehicle minus 31p/mile I had covered. That was their ONLY offer. They said I "should have checked the mileage myself, you have accepted the vehicle". Now 10K miles at 31p/mile is £3,100 which is also a bit steep - though if I had covered that, that's what they would have expected me to pay to return it.
  • Loss of no claims 5 Jun 2025 (Forum)
For example it says to get the uninsured drivers details ‘where possible’ and doesn’t state this as a condition for upholding the promise. Also, am I correct in saying that by definition a driver of a cloned car will not be insured? What policy would cover someone to drive a car on false plates? My policy allows me to drive other cars, but with strict conditions. Having said all of that, is it worth my while pursuing a complaint with the insurance company?
  • Golf Mark 7.5 / 2020 - Owned used car 1week, sidewall puncture cheap tyre 8 Aug 2024 (Forum)
The car comes with 2 years used approved warranty which as usual doesn't cover tyres, as classed as wear/tear .... but could we have any come back given we're within the initial 14 days within which no quibble exchange is possible?

  • Citroen C4 BlueHDi100 - Potential power steering fault 14 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I have recently bought a C4 BlueHDI100 new from a Citroen dealer simply because it was well equipped, comfortable and had exceedingly cheap finance after all the discounts (what can I say, cheapskate). After having a Peugeot, Citroen and Renault before I've never really had problems. The car has covered 2200 miles in about 1.5 months from new. I have noticed in my last trip to the midlands, the steering feeling abnormally heavy. It doesn't feel like the car is actively fighting me it simply feels a fair bit heavier than it did when I bought it.

  • Peugot 106 1999 modle - Dodgy car dealer or bad luck? 8 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Hello all - I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this... We bought my son a car last week from a "part time" car dealer - 600 quid, ran ok on test drive and seemed ok for the money. Needs some new tyres & brake pads which we knew about however, in the week since we bought it, the radiator failed, we took that on the chin so to speak and its been fixed, then one of the rear light clusters failed as there's water in there.

  • Mitsubishi Lancer (2008 - ) - New Mitsubishi Lancer - Why poor fuel economy? 18 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Then I looked at the fuel economy .... and ..... great disappointment. 44mpg compared with the 51mpg on the heavier Skoda with the same engine. Thats 7mpg difference, which is one hell of a difference over the 125,000 miles + That I will cover in my next car. At todays fuel prices thats an extra 390 gallons costing £2106, and we all know that will be higher with the speed that diesel fuel prices are increasing. So sadly that is telling me that I am probably going to be sticking to Octavia's (which are great cars .... but don't look like a 2008 Lancer) So what is with the poor (in comparison with VW/Seat/Skoda/Audi) fuel economy?

  • Is this an insurance scam 27 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I have recently had to change my bank account details as someone started setting up new car insurance policies online and paying via direct debits on to my account. They used my name but a different address and obviously not my car number plate. Have others experienced this? I can only assume it is a scam to get cover on a car for a few days/weeks to avoid the new cameras for automatically checking whether a car has insurance?
