  Hello, Does anybody have real life experience of the average difference in mpg and performance between Peugeot HDI turbo diesels and VW/Audi PDI turbo diesels. How do Japanese turbo diesels compare in terms of fuel economy and reliability(toyota/ Nissan). How reliable is the turbo? What is the average engine life expectancy of the engine ?

  And twice I have seen what seems to be a manufacturing defect with the paintwork on these vehicles. The cars I saw this 'defect' in were a Mazda MX5 and an Audi TT. The problem was that of very visible alternate light and dark vertical banding (like zebra stripes, but about 4 inches wide). This affected the whole side of the car. The banding was only visible when viewing the car from the rear with a viweing angle of around 30 degrees to the paintwork.

  My best guesses are Mercedes C Class Sports Coupe. BMW 316i compact SE. So these are the ones I plan to test drive. The Audi A3 is another option, but is this about to be replaced?

  OK, I have have found a few cars at less than 1k and now need some input!! 1) Audi Metro 1.3L hatchback, 1989, 18,000 miles, MOT, taxed. Needs rear bumper. Was £600 but now the gear box has gone it is reduced to £400. Is it worth buying a car (however cheap) that needs work doing to it immediately.

  If you want to buy a new Beemer or Audi or Merc you normally have to place an order 3-6 months in advance. How can you negotiate a decent trade-in price on your current pride and joy, when they won't tell you what they will pay you on delivery day.

  I'd welcome information - especially from owners - on the Honda HR-V. It's to replace an Audi 80 estate. I'd like someting which (1) above all, will be reliable over, say, 8 years / 80K miles with excellent build quality; (2) can cope with the ever-deteriorating roads (i.e. not too fussed about potholes); (3) has boot space like an estate car, but offers higher driving position (4) has reasonable running costs - insurance, service, mpg etc.

  Set in France, it was basically just a series of good car chases, however I noticed that just about every make of French and German car appeared at some point, Citroen XM, ZX, Xantia, Peugeot 205, 306, 405, 605, Renault Clio, Laguna along with BMW's, Audi's and VW, all vehicles getting close up shots of their noses and grills complete with manufacturers badges. I wonder how much the makers of the film were paid off the car companies for this advertising.

  Since all new cars sold in the U.S after 1996 (I think), have to comply with Federal emmission control regs called OBD II (On-board Diagnostics Two), will a European model that is also sold in the U.S tell you that you haven't tightened the gas cap fully ? For example, does a Merc/BMW/Audi purchased in Germany have all the OBD II functions or are they deactivated on Euro-spec models? Kevin...

  Scanning the ads, it's easy to picture a 97/R or a 95/N but how will we manage in a couple of years when the numbers take over? Imagine the Audi A4 03/03 vs the 03/53, just doesn't have the same ring does it? Even a 01/Y vs 01/51? Will it make sense or will the value of the plate finally disappear? Since 1963 we've had the familiar ring of a letter but alas no more.

  I own a 1990 Audi 80. It has provided 5 years of excellent service. However during the past year it has started loosing coolant. I have to top it up about every 2 months. The rate of loss has suddenly increased during the last few weeks, to the point when the coolant light comes on, it now needs topping up about every 80 miles (the light will start to flash from this point) .

  Can anyone help me find details about a Laserline car alarm? My K reg Audi haas one fitted and it has started going off (several times) during the night for no apparent reason. I'm told it has a built-in diagnostic system - switch off the alarm and count the LED flashes to identify the problem - but I don't have details.

  What EV, if any, commands strong residual values. Any ideas?  A new MG4 is £30k. A 3 yr old Audi eTron is £30k, with 5 yrs of battery warranty remaining and the option to extend the warranty. For some, that might represent a bargain, and a scenario of where EV running costs are better than ICE!

  I'm guessing the imperatives are to try to get one where the timing belt etc has been changed recently and to check the roof mechanism/condition carefully? Also, I'd welcome any alternative suggestions (probably not a BMW or Audi as they just look like BMW's and Audi's, although our last fun car was a mk1 TT 225 coupe which we both loved...)
