  • Recommendations on used cars! 24 Aug 2013 (Forum)
What sort of things should I be looking for in used diesels? And could anyone recommend reliable, reasonably fuel efficient (or more efficient than my current focus) cars which have sensible servicing costs? Ideally after a car which isn't smaller than the focus!

  • Peugeot 306 1.9D - 1999 Peugeot 306 diesel pump replacement 16 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Hi, I have a non-turbo version of a 306 diesel. Unfortunately, the pump died a death (horrible Lucas pump!!!!) whilst I was driving along. Now, I've changed a pump before on an old 405 TD and found it to be a pig - mainly in the undoing of the nuts that hold the pump on.
  • Vectra C - diesel or petrol Vauxhall? 16 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I was looking for a Seat Leon, astra, focus size but the value comparision to the Vectra is leading me there. Having spent a lot of time reading this forum on the problems of modern diesels I resolved to go for petrol.  Then the price of fuel started to climb and I'm wondering if I know what to look for, and what to do in the way of preventative maintenance, I could avoid really damaging expense.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2005 2.0 diesel - engine fault 2 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I really need some help from people who know about Ford Mondeo diesel engines. I have a 2005 Mondeo on which the warranty runs out in March. The car has had a new fuel pump under warranty. Sometimes the car still runs badly and goes into limp mode. The car has been at the dealer and they have tried to recode an injector but say that this has failed and a new injector will need to be fitted.
  • Rapeseed oil in diesel 23 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I remember it has to have below a certain level of sulphur and above a certain level of esters, but I'm no chemist. I just think shoving foodstuff in a car's diesel tank and having an improvement is quite something! I'd be treating it as more of an additive than a fuel as such. Please no "THERE'S NO DIFFERENCE" posts. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind here.
  • 306 Dturbo diesel pump and immobiliser 26 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Will I need to swap the pumps over? surely the code is stored in the ECU and that then sends a signal to the fuel shut off valve in the pump? The pump on the new engine is slightly different in that it has a damper and a pipe leading to the oil filler, whereas the old one doesnt have these. Any help will be appreciated.

  • Which device to prevent misfuelling? 13 Jan 2017 (Forum)
BTW, I'm sure somebody will be along in a minute to say "just pay attention while refuelling and save your £40". Answer: I do pay attention, and I have a fuel pump routine that involves a final check of colours, labels and prices before I start pumping. But it would only take one incident when I'm tired or distracted to make an expensive mistake (as I did once before, on the first day I owned a diesel car in 1995).
