Ford Galaxy - Put my automatic gearbox to 'Park' while moving 8 Jun 2024 (Forum)
For some weird reason I inadvertently put the automatic gearbox ('PowerShift') selector from 'D' (Drive) to 'P' (Park) while moving at about 25mph. The car did not come to a sudden stop or make any nasty graunching noises. I gently applied the footbrake and there were a few faint grumbling/clicking noises for 1-2s untiI came to my senses and threw the stick back to D(rive) again. -

Renaults dirty automatic secret 20 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Renaults AL4/DPO has secret its called the counter its in the software for the automatic transmission ,its a clock that ticks away the time the fluid has been in the gearbox it works in conjunction with the condition sensor , its generated billions of Euros for renault dealers because renault say never change the fluid yet every other transmission mfg will tell you to change the fluid at 30,000 miles because debris from the clutch packs /bands just keeps pumping around system causing damage to valve body/seals/EMV valves/solinoids/torque converter and bearings /bushings ,unless you buy expensive renault clip diagnostic equipment you are not going to be able to reset the counter even if you are only topping it up let alone changing the fluid , its a system where the whole concept was designed to fail unless you have special knowledge and equipment ,look at any forum and common discription is (it went thump and was stuck in limp mode ,there thousands of renaults all over the world for sale cheap because it costs to much to repair! -

Hyundai Santa Fe - Thermo-dynamics of diesel automatics 19 Nov 2013 (Forum)
A question for a thermo-dynamics expert. I have a Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2CRDi automatic which is used for towing, but well within it's towing limit - as standard a transmission cooler is fitted but it's of the loop-in-radiator-bottom-tank type - I use a ScanGauge 2 to monotor the engine coolant temperature via the EOBD2 diagnostics port. -
Best automatic under £3.5K .... 9 Aug 2008 (Forum)
. :-) Anyway, a mate has had enough of running a large 4x4 - doesn't do a large mileage, but just stuff like new tyres can be cripplingly expensive. However, needs an automatic (no manual license), big enough for a family of four (with prams and such) - so golf-size car a bit tight. Any suggestions? He likes 'presitige' cars - but of course for that budget tends to mean either jolly old and/or knackered ... -
What small auto? 29 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Female friend has just erm... extensively restyled her 206 auto with the help of a hedge. She's 22 and has an automatic only licence. Budget for a new one is £10k, cash, but low insurance and reasonable fuel economy are priorities as she does a fairly large mileage. It needs to be a conventional auto, not a semi-automatic even though her licence would allow her to drive one. -
Citroen Xsara Hdi automatic nightmare 31 May 2004 (Forum)
I have a Citroen Xsara estate Hdi 110bhp 2.0 automatic, which has given me no end of grief from the moment I bought it. The gears 'slip' when acelerating through 2nd + 3rd on a cold start. They also change at random, and have a reluctance to change down when they should, forcing the engine to labour and shake under the strain. -
Automatic versus Automated Manual 16 Sep 2003 (Forum)
And that they can be jerky and difficult to control smoothly at junctions and stop start motoring. The small Daihatsu automatics and the Yaris get good reviews. the 1.4 16v polo, Fabia, Lupo could also fit the bill. Which would you recommend? I take the hints and would avoid a Renault at all costs, due to problems with the auto boxes. -
Astra automatics - any probs? 20 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Just wondering if anyone has had any experience of current Astra's with automatic 'box and if so, how do they perform? Call me sad if you like, but more and more of my journeys are stop/start and I'm getting fed-up of changing gear. Most of the nearly-new ones seem to be 1.6 8 valve engines (as opposed to most manuals seemingly being 16-valve) I know that manual Astra's get good reviews for performance, handling, ride etc., but will the 2-pedal ones be OK? -
