  According to the Le Monde newspaper, Sept. 9th., the number of victims of road accidents in France has gone down for 27 months on the trot, apart from January. The month of August 2004 showed a 10 % reduction compared with 2003. Brush off your GB plate and head over the Channel!

  A warning for those travelling abroad. France now requires one Hi-Viz vest for every occupant of cars on the autoroute - a requirement not covered by the information pack provided by our lease company. Luckily I need them for work so we had the requisite number in the car.

  I have an Avensis fitted with thei TNS200 SatNav system and ETA (Electronic Traffic Avoidance) option. Given that my local dealer has supplied the correct CD for France, should the ETA function work/be available? It all works OK in the UK using the UK CD.

  I have found a 1972 Mercedes 600 Pullman on the west coast of France. I have spent a few days with my mechanic going through the car with a fine toothcomb. I really would like to buy it (it's a private sale, no dealer involved). But, I'm completely stumped as to how to register the car in my name in France on temporary plates in order to bring it back to the UK.

  Has anyone used these hotels in France? Normally I drive the 650 miles from Bath to central France in a day but with two drivers. Her ladyship does not want to travel this time so I'm going on my own and need a night on the way. I refuse to use the west country ferry routes so I thought I would book into the Formula 1 hotel in Abbeville, about one hour from Calais.
