    do you think you would pass your driving test if you were to have to resit it today? {Subject header given a more meaningful title - DD}
  • automatic car for driving test 10 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Sorry if this is a stupid question but, I'm looking at buying a Vauxhall Meriva easytronic, if my daughter were to take her driving test in this car, would it be classed as a auto or a manual.
  • Does driving reveal the 'true' person? 27 Jul 2005 (Forum)
The image of the mild-mannered man becoming a demon behind the wheel may be a bit of a caricature, but it begs the question: "Does driving reveal a person's true character?".
  • Driving without wipers 22 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Anyone know what the offence might be if someone were to drive with faulty/broken windscreen wipers? Not me but someone I know is dragging their feet getting their car fixed. Thanks, Rob
  • Driving Instructor 27 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Any driving instructors out there? Can anyone tell what it's like to be an instructor? Advantages? Disadvantages? Earnings? Running a franchise vs working for yourself? (FYI: I'm 49yrs old and live in Surrey.)
  • Tips for Defensive Driving 19 Jul 2011 (Forum)
A true defensive driver will choose a speed that would match traffic as close as possible without exceeding the limits of speed. Making these tips in mind while driving would ensure and give one a safety ride and would thus prevent accidents. Even if you want to know more about proper driving techniques you can enroll into various defensive driving courses in Texas which are available easily.
  • Unlicenced Drivers 10 May 2008 (Forum)
We hear about the large number of drivers who are driving illegally, without a valid driving licence. I've never seen a break-down of the statistics but one assumes they are mostly people who have by-passed the test procedure altogether or drive while they have been disqualified for an offence.
  • Driving other cars 6 Sep 2006 (Forum)
If this is the case, how is it different for me to drive the car with third party cover as opposed to the registered driver driving it with the like cover! I accept that the car is not covered and will need insurance to renew road tax in the future. I cannot keep the car in good condition stored off the road.
  • factors affecting suspension bush wear 17 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Other than simply driving too quickly, are there other aspects of driving style that might be leading to premature wear and tear on the bushes?
  • Bora stops because the lights don't work 15 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Friend has Bora trouble again. Driving along the other day and engine management warning light comes on. Next thing a red notice saying STOP DRIVING. No indication of what it is. Being a good person she stops driving, phones the local VW agent who says "If it tells you to stop driving you should stop driving".
  • Audi A6 Multitronic gearbox fault 6 Oct 2003 (Forum)
When I engage drive,or reverse, there is a significant delay of 2 - 5 seconds before the gearbox engages and when it does engage there is an audible "bang" due to the rev's that have built up. If I attempt a hill start with the box in drive I need to keep my foot on the brake to stop the vehicle rolling backwards. ie the gearbox wil not hold the car.Again there is a delay whilst drive engages-even though it is already in drive!
  • Improving driving standards 30 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I often read threads which criticise driving examples.  Often these develop on how standards might be improved.  One thing I learned from becoming a member of the IAM is the need to keep looking at driving skills. I would be very interested to hear the views of professional drivers ( obviously others as well ) on how they stay safe on the roads.
  • Young driver training 16 Aug 2009 (Forum)
She is returning to college in September and will be taking her car with her for the first time. Can anyone recommend a course that would act as a refresher to her driving test particularly in relation to 'defensive' driving and also provide practical advice on motorway driving ( which she has done a fair bit of but doesn't really understand the dynamics)?
  • Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - 2004 1.1 Engine stopping while driving 23 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Help! While driving home today, on two seperate occasions my car's engine stopped while I was driving. The battery lights came on as though I had turned the key in the ignition without starting the engine. The 1st time I was going about 30km/hr, and the second time I had just started to drive in 2nd gear after a light turned green.
  • Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - New car - driving tips 9 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Bought a new car yesterday to replace the Accord - picked up a VW Passat 1.9 TDi 130 with 90k on the clock. Delighted so far but wondering about the best way to drive it for optimal fuel efficiency. Fairly spirited driving around country lanes and A-roads has led to an average of about 45mpg, but driving the same roads very carefully and essentially "mimsing" along only gave 38mph.
  • Is the UK Driving license OK for Bosnia? 8 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Hi, I am contemplating renting a car from Zagreb (Croatia) airport, driving into Bosnia and returning it back to Zagreb a week later. My question is about the UK driving license. Is it valid in Bosnia? I have always thought it was international but someone else has put doubt in my mind.
  • Prescription drugs and driving 28 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I have just come to the end of 4 months of chemotherapy (thankfully with very promising results) but the following question occurs: the (oral) drugs in question are effective but severe, leading to anaemia, and thereby, to considerable fatigue (until corrected by transfusions which I have had regularly). At such 'fatigue' times I have always used my judgement as to when I'm OK to drive, or not. But is this enough? Is the mere fact of being on drugs which could have this effect, enough to make me culpable under the law, if I drive? Obviously an over-the-alcohol-limit driver has NO discretion to make the judgement "I'm OK to drive".

  • Some charges ignored? 8 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Item in Lincolnshire Echo 5th January 2005: A Bosnian immigrant was arrested after he was seen driving at 94mph in a 70mph limit with his children standing on the back seat. He also did not have a driving license, was driving without insurance and without a valid MOT certificate. (He also didn't speak English when arrested) He was fined as follows: £200 for driving without insurance £100 for speeding £43 costs 6 points on his license Does this mean that for having no MOT and no license, he was unpunished?
  • BBC World Service. Driving lessons. 29 Sep 2004 (Forum)
