  I have read of some autos, esp i x20 and Venga having 'flat spots'.  What does this mean? Is it significant ? Thanks for advice.

  Hi, Following knee surgery I'm looking to buy a diesel automatic SUV. Now the last time I drove an automatic was years ago and I remember not being very impressed. It was sluggish and when it eventually decided to change gear it lurched forward whilst doing so.

  Hi, My daughter would like to downsize from a big seven seater automatic, to a more conventional size / economical car,  has anyone any experience of which automatic car priced upto £6000 car could accommodate one isofix swivel baby seat, one other stage two child seat, and one booster seat /base....in the back... she does approx 15000 miles a year, and needs an automatic Thanks

  Reading all the disputes about left versus right-foot braking with automatics makes me wonder why we're still buying manuals in the 21st century, having disposed of manual chokes, carbs and advance/retard controls. Especially as cars seem to need so many gears now. Could anyone with a technical bent explain why my  Mk 1 Escort found four gears perfectly adequate with about 60 bhp but a Seat needs six with 150 bhp?

  My son will soon be after a replacement motor, he requires a diesel because of the milage he does and would also now like an automatic but a Torque Converter type...there appears to be no such cars in the VW group (would have liked the 1.9 pd engine) Has anyone any sugestions,he will have approx £2000 to spend, he would like something with a bit of street cred not something his Dad (me) would drive.... thanks in advance.

  I can't decide between a 10ft automatic roller door or a standard manual up and over door. Both are around £600. Does anyone have a auto roller door? I've seen one and they appear immensely practical as they roll up like a curtain blind but the steel material its made of seems very thin.

  I've decided that I'm definitely going down the torque converter route with my next automatic rather than double clutches and electronic gizmos. Has anyone got any advice or details of their experiences with the best and worst out there? Do I stick with mercedes in house 7g/5g tronic, often highly recommended?

  My Rav4 (2002) automatic is giving troubles intermttently. It may have no creep on level ground when drive is selected, or it is reluctant to change from 1 to 2 without slipping as if in neutral and then may change with a bump.

  My Peugeot 53 reg, automatic keeps cutting out when driving, then restarting immediately.  Also the airbag warning signals and stays on and the fuel gage signals as empty when it isn't.  What is going on please? she also drives slowly and judders first thing in the morning as if she is going to stop especially up hill.

  Hi     How do I put oil into the gear box of my automatic ford focus...?  I was told at the garage where I take it  for its annual     mot  that there is a separate filler for this I thought  you just put the oil in the engine oil filler on the top of the engine   and where is the filler part to do this ?

  I have a 2002 automatic honda stream and just recently as i was driving the drive (D) light on the dashboard started flashing and all of a sudden the car was failing to pull. I parked the car to check and i started the car again, i put my leg on the accelerator and the car wouldnt drive and was just making a rattling sound with the (D) light still flashing.

  Recently my above mentioned car was parked( I put on the automatic handbrake) on a hill on a side road. I was gone about 15minutes and as I was returning I saw the car rolling down the hill. It came a halt when it hit a bus shelter which was demolished and my car was badly damaged at the back.

  Would I be right in thinking that brake lining life (e.g. front pads) is significantly shorter in cars with automatics than manual transmission? With the new DSG boxes from VAG, do these perform active engine braking - by that I mean do they change down gear when slowing down in a way that engine braking is significant?

  I drive a 2000 206 GLX Automatic, however it has developed a weird but intermitten problem, when I hit the brakes to slow down and stop at lights of in traffice the car stalls, it appears to be a fuel problem but the garage assure me they have checked and there is not a problem, this issue happens for about an hour and is then fine, I am so confused any ideas??

  I know that my car has a function where as you press a button and the headlights come on automatically when it starts to get dark. I know where the button is situated, but i have no idea how it works. Ive pressed it and it has got dusk and nothing has happened. Now it may just be that it needs fixing, maybe its broke, or maybe im just being abit thick ?

  I\'ve had a 1990 E30 320i for a year now and getting a bit pink fluffy dice off at how bad the MPG is, the best i can get on a long run down motorway is 25 mpg, i end up driving like a granny cause if i put my foot down the mpg goes well below 20 mpg. Is there any other car around the same size with a 2 litre engine thats automatic thats got a better MPG.

  My Dad's looking for a newer car to replace his ageing Ford Mondeo 2.5 V6. He's got around 10k to spend, and needs an automatic. He'd also like a diesel if possible, as nearly all his journeys are long motorway ones, and economy is important. It also needs to be capable of towing a 2 berth caravan. It'll do around 15k miles a year and be kept for the next 10 years or so.
