  Don't know if anyone can give me any advice, this is the first time I've posted on this site!! I have a Renault laguna 1.6 (2000 reg) and lately I've noticed the air con is not working properly. In the warm weather recently the chilled air comes through very weakly & intermittently, even with the fan on full blast, there is also an intermittent 'screaching' sound from the engine compartment when the air con is on.

  Does using the air con/climate control make a lot of difference to the MPG in a modern car? Also, should a brand new car be 'run-in' for say 1000 miles before trying to accurately assess the MPG? Thanks.

  Just took one of our cars into the Ford Garage yesterday, A 2008 Mondeo Estate  as the Air Con was not very effective, and they diagnosed a "punctured condensor" (probably caused by a flying stone ) requiring a new one at £480.00 fitted I declined this as it seemed rather expensive, paid them £ 60 for the diagnosis and took it today to a local Air Con specialist for a second opinion.

  We have topped the pressure back up to where the guage says it the correct level. When you switch the air con on, the symbol shows on the display and we can hear a click noise coming from the front left of the car, the compressor ? so it sounds like this is working .. but still no air con Any ideas ??

  (I have read previous threads about fuel costs and air con and know you don't all agree on this one - and I also know air con should be used at least once a month throughout the year to keep the condensor? compressor? (whatever) happy.) I would hazard a guess and say it's best to leave it on as the lesser of two evils but you know, just wondering.

  just read a note on a usa web site that was discussing the pros and cons of leaving the air con on all the time. There was general agreement that the system should be left on all the time or used regularly to keep the seals in good condition and prevent premature failure.

  The air con compressor on my 1996 Xantia 1.9td does not run when I press the switch. Is there a relay associated with it that can be replaced? Are there any servicable parts on the compressor that can be tested or replaced.

  The car is an 05 Focus TDCi, and the air-con is no longer blowing cold air. I've just noticed it because of a couple of warm days this week. It was working last summer, and seemed to be helping with the demisting during the winter.

  Am I right in assuming that having your air con set on 'recirc', you are only cooling the (already cool) air circulating in the passenger compartment. Whereas if it is set on 'fresh air' (outside air) you are having to cool the hot (summer) air coming in from outside.

  Its a 2000 1.8 20v sport auto estate-we have only had it about a week and the air con/fans arnt coming on? is this a normal fault with these and is there anything i can do? or is it a dealer only fault?. Thanks Ray
