  • Renault Laguna II (2001 - 2007) - Sat Nav 13 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Does this mean i need the ACTUAL disc that came with the car, or perhaps the system has never been used, as the instruction manual was still wrapped in plastic? The car has the Cabbasse auditorium fitted and all the other features work fine (radio, phone etc). I even asked my dealer if they had any 06 lagunas with sat-nav so i could try the disc from that car, but they were very unco-operative about that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  • Spacious & high five seater? 3 Jun 2008 (Forum)
This would mean we require the following items: - # three separate seats in the back (rather than a bench, where the middle passenger is an afterthought) # Steering wheel controls of the radio # A higher than standard driving position # A nice gap between the two front seats enabling smaller people to walk through from front passenger seat to rear area, the gap unencumbered by handbrakes, gear levers etc, and permitting the safe storage of a hangbag out of reach of theiving scrotes who might normally break a window, lean in and grab hadbag from front pasenger seat.
  • Driving Music 18 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I reasonably regularly drive overnight to, or indeed from, Italy. Usually alone so music is very important. As most continental night time radio stations are fairly poor I take my own. I don't want you to think I'm doing a "Clarkson" in some transcontinental supercar, in fact it is mainly in my trusty old Mondeo estate ! However, in the dark even in such a workaday car there is still something quite exciting about making such a journey on largely empty and well cared for roads.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 2001 Yreg, 1.6 Private sale - what's it worth ? 29 Feb 2008 (Forum)

  • Toyota Celica (1991 - 1994) - Best Way of Selling a 1992 Toyota Celica GT-Four 21 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Full service history with local import specialist since imported in 2003, I am the first private owner in this country. Seats re-trimmed in leather 2 years ago. Radio and all speakers replaced with Alpine DVD player and speakers. No rust. Only bad points are a few stone chips, one surface scratch, one small door dent and a slightly damaged wheel. I have considered putting it on ebay and the GT4 owners club website, any other suggestions or advice greatfully received.
  • Gas Cylinders Again - A12 6 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I hired a van today to pick up some bits and pieces which involved a journey from near Braintree to just north of Colchester. About 8 miles from the A12 a traffic announcement blasted out of the radio (made me jump - didn't know it was on) saying that the A12 is closed in both directions for 24 hours!! The cause? A van caught fire carrying gas cylinders. I was lucky enough to take the back roads but in doing so crossed the A12 3 or 4 times (lost) and I really felt sorry for the people stuck in horrendous queues.
  • Americans puzzled by manual gearbox 25 Jun 2007 (Forum)
"The kid was just sitting in the car trying to start it but he had no idea what to do. He looked dumbfounded. The only thing he had going was the radio," said Williamson who witnessed the scene. While the thief was trying to start the car, restaurant employees called the police who arrived and caught the teenagers as they tried to escape into nearby woods.
  • Argh! Accords and motorbikes... 5 Apr 2007 (Forum)
If he'd come off on the motorway there wouldn't be much left of him - and I suspect I'd be languishing in a police cell as it was technically my fault for slowing unexpectedly. Ironically, it had just been mentioned on the radio that Devon sees the highest rate of motorcycle fatalities in the country and I can well understand why!!
  • Its 1969 again ( headgaskets iron heads) 3 Feb 2007 (Forum)
The sun is on your back, the budgie is on its perch and `lady Madonna` issues from the 2 watt car radio. Yes, its a great July Saturday morning in 1969, you pop the bonnet on your parents drive and BMC`s green cast iron motor gleams back. The long reach sparkplugs slip out easily in their copper greased, cast iron threads and yes, there it is again, down the plughole in a shaft of light, easily picked out by your 17 year old eyes....
  • Acceleration 'interference' noise - Leon 10 Aug 2006 (Forum)
It sounds like something electronic ? almost like two electric wires a being placed together or the ?interference? from a radio. I honestly can?t really explain what it sounds like any better than that. I can drown it out by turning the stereo up but even then I can hear it in the background. It doesn?t just occur when the revs reach the above level ?
  • Parking on pavements, red lights & bikes 18 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Hi, Jezzer vine is asking on Radio 2 this lunch time, for the most ignored laws. As a pedestrain and {tandem} pram pusher {cyclist, motorcyclist, motorist and caravanner too},I find cars parked on the pavement { 1 pair of wheels on the pavement, the other pair on the road}a big problem, cannot get past with the the tandem pram, have to go into the road, but nothing ever gets done - I see Police and traffic wardens ignore cars parked this way.
  • never owned a Citroen.....but hmmm! 2 Nov 2005 (Forum)
There was no road noise! How did they do that? Also liked the idea of the fixed hub in the steering wheeel with radio and cruise controls. Excellent kit for the money, and the final nail in the coffin (for my wallet) is that my missus liked it too, whereas she normally says "s'alright I s'pose" What a funky looking motor, far funkier than the Focus and other Euro/Jap identikits The showroom manager just gave me the key, no licence needed, no proof of ID.....and there was a packet of Trebor mints in a cubby hole, but I wasn't sure if he had counted them!
  • Suzuki Grand Vitara Advertising 19 Oct 2005 (Forum)
"all models now have side and curtain airbags.....plus ABS and side impact protection beams" - hardly groundbreaking innovation! Side impact beams? "we have also added and integrated audio system" - so its got a radio? It looks a totally, bland, non-descript car and the advertising blurb seems to back that up! Oh, and another question, what exactly is the competition for the Vitara? Prices look to be in the £13k to £15k price bracket which is cheaper than RAV4, Freelander, CRV etc.
  • Vectra 2004 Multi-function computer 9 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I took ownership of a 04 registered Vectra Sri in March.I noticed early on that the screen on the computer display had a "Hot-spot".The dealer agreed and ordered a new one under Warranty. As I drove the car out of the garage, after the repair, I tried setting up the computer, only to find that it didn't have any multi-function options i.e average distance, mpg etc.It was a basic screen only showing the radio station, temp etc. The dealer ordered another and it was the exact same. They said they used the part number off of my original unit and Vauxhall were supplying the wrong ones.I then got my original refitted to the car.I was phoned some 10 days later and told that all units are the same and have to be programmed to the car?????
  • Time for a new battery? 16 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Can anyone recommend a source of inexpensive but reliable batteries, I don't want to pay Honda prices. Q3. I haven't got the security code for the radio, but it has not locked me out yet. What triggers the code security to be activated, ie. does a 'dead' battery still provide enough power to the memory chip? Considering that when the car was left for a week over the Christmas holidays, there was so little charge that even the digital clock died.
  • Morons. 16 Feb 2005 (Forum)
The guy was doing about 30 mph on a 50mph stretch of in fairly heavy traffic but seemed totally oblivious of the danger he was posing to other road users on either side of the carriageway! This morning I heard a piece on Radio 5 concerning how little many drivers know about the basic controls and warning lights on their cars. Can't recall all the figures exactly but 1 in 8 had no idea what the rear demister switch was for, about 30-40% had no idea what the air-bag failure warning light was and a similar proportion couldn't identify the coolant temperature gauge!
  • Sluggish Vectra Diesel 6 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I got to my destination and when I got in to return home I switched on the ignition and the EML had cleared and the drive was better though still not right. A possible factor is an electrical fault - I have noticed that the screen display for time , radio station name etc is not functioning correctly with gaps everywhere. I would appreciate any suggestions as to likely causes before I go to the garage.
  • Pointless Features 30 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Thus, there is a trade-off, in that the car is made more desirable by the toy's presence but less desirable in that it may be less reliable and more expensive to repair. Long ago when cars were basic, the addition of (say) a radio must have seemed unequivocally good in that the benefit was large, the risk small, and if it broke then you were no worse off. Now, the marginal benefit seems to be getting smaller, and the downside of failure might be worse - vide the electric doors (do they have a mechanical backup?).

  • Pay as you go insurance 15 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Heard a piece on the radio earlier this week about pay as you go insurance, ie the more you drive the more you pay. Was wondering what the BR thought on this. It is a scheme that Norwich Union are considering (I am sure that there was mention of this a few years back) where they install a Black Box to see how far you drive and at what time of the day.
