Skoda Superb - Second Hand 31 Dec 2017 (Forum)
I don’t do a lot of miles, it’s mostly for driving away on weekends. Some long trips but no commuting. I do less than 10,000 miles per year. Currently I have a Nissan Almera Tino automatic that I really like but probably needs a new timing chain so likely to be getting rid. Let’s say budget 8 grand. What do you think of this? Could be a money pit with DSG and a timing chain as heard of problems with both of these? -
Citroen Berlingo - Convert car to van - what legalities need doing? 16 Mar 2015 (Forum)
I've found the car version of the vans (e.g. Citroen Berlingo, Peugoet Partner, Renault Kangoo & Nissan Kubistar) I've been looking at are in much better condition for cheaper, so I'm thinking about converting a car to a van. From what I see, I have to remove the back seats, render seatbelt anchors unusable, blank out the windows, and a few more jobs, and then get it inspected. -
New car for new family 11 Nov 2012 (Forum)
We have been reviewing various cars, analysing CO2 emissions, internal space, leasing costs etc etc and we seem to have come up with the Nissan Qashqai N-Tec with the 1.6DCi engine with Start/Stop as the best option to maximise internal space and minimise company car tax. The lease charges do not seem to be unreasonable and we have agreed that anything above a certain figure comes out of his salary. -

Car recommendation 10 Oct 2011 (Forum)
So I'm looking for a recommendation for a car with the following requirements: Max Budget £8k Reliable Economical Smooth Ride Spacious + Practical (We are a young family of 3, but I see us having more kids) To give a heads up I've looked at Nissan Qashqai's, X-Trail and RAV 4. Someting around the 40mpg mark is about as low as we could go. Looking forward to hearing the suggestions, cheers. -
New car for dogs and children - advice ? 3 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Mini estate: I sort of like them, but i am 40 years old so will I feel daft inside it. BMW 320d estate: Bigger version of what she has now, I like them. Nissan X trail: Same as the outlander but cheaper. A few years ago we had a Frontera 2.5td which was a monster & I hated it. I know technology has moved on since then but I am still not sure about 4x4s So any comments or pointers will be very welcome. -
British built auto estates - any out there? 15 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I do not want an MPV (wife's got one) and I will under no circumstances consider an SUV type vehicle (including the Nissan Qashqai). I will consider Focus/Golf sized or Mundaneo/Passat sized cars, and would want to avoid "prestige" or "premium" brands. Although I might consider an X-Type if I could get a cheap deal I suppose, it is British built I presume. -
Cheap Chevrolets at car supermarkets 1 Nov 2008 (Forum)
They seem to lose money far more quickly than a number of apparently very similar cars (old Kia Ceratos, Nissan Almeras, Mitsubishi Lancers etc). Given that they're not that bad looking, what gives here? I know that people are going to say "buy a used Focus", but at this price I'd be looking at a 4 or 5 year old example with probably a few faults to contend with, so as a second car these, on the face of it, seem to make a lot of sense. -
Renault Laguna II (2001 - 2007) - 02 - Manifold Pressure Sensor 1.9 dci & 1.8 petrol 25 Jan 2008 (Forum)
The mechanic suggested that the Manifold sensor is not the proper one for my model. The package of the spare part had a label in which Laguna 1.9dci is written, along with some Nissan 1.2 and 1.4 engines. The dealer is convincing me that the same pressure sensor is for 1.8 gasoline engine, and the reason why this model is not on the label is because the manufacturer didn't have enough space to put all models on it. -
In Paise of Franchised Garages!! Holdcroft - Stoke 25 Oct 2007 (Forum)
3 weeks ago I bought a new car from Motorpoint. However,my son wanted to buy a set of mats/boot liner for my birthday. He phones up a local Nissan garage to me and asked about the mats/price - £50 for mats, £75 for bootliner and they would need to order them - a bit steep as my son had bought an X5 bootliner for £50 the previous week. Looked on E-bay - saw Holdcroft in Stoke - £30 mats/£50 bootliner +£6 del = £86 - delivered next day. -
Bangernomics 20 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I hadn't bothered to browse it for cars before either (not being in the market) and I was pleasantly surprised by the choice in my sort of price bracket. As discussed elsewhere, medium-to-large Japanese saloons like the Nissan QX, Toyota Camry and my particular favourite, the Mazda Xedos, are seriously undervalued, as are most vehicles with much more than 120k miles. Garages are no longer very interested in anything over 8-10 years old, as they have to provide a warranty, yet engines and bodywork last longer than ever, if looked after, and the world seems to be filling up with cars that are nowhere near the end of their useful lives, but that nobody really wants. -
petril versus diesel 24 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I've run diesels for quite a long time and have always been happy with the mpg. However, some time ago I bought the wife a used Nissan Almera 1.4 petrol. She's a gentle driver and regularly gets over 40mpg on a run. What it's average is, I don't know. The car has cost us nothing other than routine servicing. My car is a V. Astra 1.7 td (Isusu engine), which has done 146K miles, but still does around 45mpg on average. -
What happened? 3 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Talking of the C reg Nissan Silvia 1.8 turbo auto, which I was on another thread, I wonder if anyone has an explanation for this. Cruising down the motorway at roughly 80 in reasonably light traffic. In outside lane, plenty of room to the car in front. -
Sat Nav at Aldi 17 May 2004 (Forum)
We just put the pda in the cradle, plug in to the cigerette lighter and place the GPS ariel on the dashboard. You can enter in street names or post codes. I have a Nissan Primeral SVE with built in sat nav but gave this a good testing today and it worked just as well. For £269 its the cheapest system that I have seen unless you already own a PDA. So impressed spoke to the Father in law today and bought him one as well. -
Direct Line vs Tesco Insurance 3 Jul 2003 (Forum)
The Situation: 22 years old, full license for 3 years, got to get insurance in my name for the first time ever. Going to be first named driver on a 2001 Nissan Micra 1.0. Car owned by parents, but driven by myself and brothers. I've been 2nd named driver on my brother's Directline policy on the car for 2 years, completely clean license and no claims for anyone on policy. -
Forester sturbo vs xtrail tdi 23 May 2003 (Forum)
on the basis of the forester returning 25mpg and the tdi giving 35mpg over 48k miles, estimating the future value to be £3.5k for the subaru and £6k for the newer nissan, depreciation is about the same. total cost difference is about 5k about the same as the difference in purchase price. Are they figures broadly correct? Forester seem to hold their value incredibly well but will this carry on as they get older? -
3 year old Micra or Ka? 21 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I'm looking at buying either a 30k 2000W/X Ford Ka or Nissan Micra 1.4 at auction, both of which I would hope to snag for around 3 grand. Can't decide which, and would appreciate advice. These are my requirements: 1. My wife is on a provisional and needs to learn to drive. 2. -
Gearbox noise in intermediate gears 6 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I have just bought a 1995 Nissan Sunny from a dealer with a years warranty. It's going fine apart from a noise which I didn't pick up on the test drive but has been worrying me a little since. When slowing down in 2nd or 3rd gear there is a highish-pitched whine coming from the gearbox, which changes pitch in-line with engine speed. -
Driving/cars in Australia and New Zealand 18 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Others spotted - Honda Odyssey, City, Civic Saloon, Accord US, Toyota FJ Cruiser, Toyota Camry/Aurion, Tarago, Kluger, Land Cruiser 70, Subaru Tribeca (good looking one), Great Wall X200 (quite attractive) VW TDI powered - so I was told, Nissan Pulsar (think it is on the way) and Pathfinder 5 door. -
Skoda Octavia II (2004 - ) - Both cars - first service. 14 Jan 2009 (Forum)
My "fleet" (2008 Octavia 1.8 TSi Ambiente HB & 2008 Nissan Qashqai 1.6 Visia) are both due their first service. I have previously entrusted most mechanical work to a well trusted friend of the family, but this time I find both cars need the main dealer to reset the service indicators.
