peugeot 206s 1.4 tiptronic auto fault 22 May 2007 (Forum)
hi there, can anyone help me please i just bought a 2004 peugeot 1.4 206 s semi automatic. I bought it from a local garage with 5k on the clock so I rang the previous owner (who was a nun) and she confirmed the mileage to me and also that the car had no faults. I had had the car about 10 days when the following fault occured:- the car lurched forward, the gearbox clunked and the Sport & Snow indicator lights came on together along with an audible bleep, the car then lost acceleration, it didn't stop or feel like it was going to stop, it was just really sluggish and if I had to stop at lights or a junction it was very very slow pulling away again. -
Prosecution? 26 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Now the question is this - will she face prosecution for careless driving? The police say a 'report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal' (Scotland) Does this automatically mean she will be charged or does the Fiscal have discretion on this? Anybody hot on Scot's Law? It's all a bit sad. Fortunately she is not hurt and no one else was involved. The other car owner was very understanding and insurance will see to everything. -
Happy Blue's rental car blog 10 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Good car apart from badly positioned air vents (cold hands), steering that is too light and it lacks the low end torque I am used to from a turbo diesel (almost all rental cars in Israel are petrol automatic). This most recent trip we wanted some winter sun, so we drove from north of Tel Aviv to Eilat. -

Help me narrow down these choices for me please! 23 Aug 2025 (Forum)
I've narrowed down to these choices below, budget is around £9k, and looking at ULEZ compliant, Automatic cars ; Saloons BMW 3 Series 2015+ ; small-ish so not daunting jumping up from a small hatchback to this. Diesel engines are good Merc C Class 2016+ ; slightly more roomier in the back than the 3 series, and more bells and whistles as standard than the 3 series (i.e. reverse camera etc). -
Honda Accord 2006 mk 7 - Shock Absorber with Headlight Level Sensor Bracket 31 Mar 2025 (Forum)
And i ve no idea what mileage it's done And given the huge mileage i do (about 20k a year) I'd rather have a new one. I have a 2006 face-lift estate. 2.4 petrol automatic executive with ADAS. Currently on 271,000 miles. And have just recently serviced it and done a wheelbearing and some bodywork so would rather not sc*** it for sake of a shock absorber. -
A cheap to run luxury(ish) car? Tough one... 25 May 2023 (Forum)
His criteria so far: Budget: £12k. 60+mpg, lowish insurance group, reliable. Must be automatic (disability issue). Reliable and low(ish) maintenance costs. Would like bells & whistles that you see in the Golf. Refuses to have another hybrid (dont ask, but it was a nightmare getting repairs and downright expensive). -
Suzuki - Car Signwriting 10 Jun 2021 (Forum)
Never again and so annoyed with Rias. So if you have Signwriting or get your car wrapped don’t automatically assume that your insurance company will cover you. [slight edit to text in italics, moderator] -
Mazda CX-5 - Buying Advice 18 Apr 2020 (Forum)
We would be buying used (2017-2019) and looking to spend £22-25k, hoping to keep the car for 7+ years, potentially to carry around a second child too. We will buy an automatic. I have a few questions: 1. Any opinions on choice of car for our situation would be welcome. I’m aware there are other good options in this class, but the Mazda is leading at the moment as it appears to tick all the boxes and I like the look. 2. -
Ford Fiesta - '09 Fiesta Electrical Issue 4 Jan 2020 (Forum)
It's used mainly on short distances daily but we take it for a longer drive on the weekends to see family etc. All lights, wipers etc are automatic so I'm definitely not leaving them turned on by accident, no interior lights are being left on by accident, and they're now all LED as they draw considerably less power. The only thing I could have thought it was is the dashcam I've got plugged into the cig lighter, so I took that out whilst parked but made no difference. -
Lexus 460 - what connects the steering 27 Apr 2019 (Forum)
If the driver then returns the steering wheel very fast, this could lead to a steering wheel off-centre condition even though the driving wheels would be straight. This phenomenon will be resolved automatically in a few seconds and the driver may notice this correction as the steering wheel centre moves slowly by itself to the centre position when driving straight during the correction operation. -
Volvo C30 - Taking on home based car maintenance 14 Feb 2018 (Forum)
The service mileage was vastly different to the recorded mileage. A box had been ticked that the automatic tyre pressure monitor had been reset, it doesnt have one. The hand brake was stated to have been adjusted, it now remains on after releasing and breaks free with a noticeable thud and jerk. -
Mercedes-Benz C180 - Starting Probelms 7 Sep 2015 (Forum)
If however I stop it, wait 5 mins or so and try to start it the car doesn’t start until the second time (sometimes third) I try to start it (with the automatic cranking time given when you turn the car). This all started in hot weather, and did once refuse to start when the weather was really warm (well warm for the UK anyway). -
I LEASE FROM MOTABILITY BUT I WANT TO BUY NOW 14 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I have happily leased a motability car now for quite some time, I am on my 3rd car and fairly soon I will have to decide do I choose another New car or do I hand back the keys and go back to buying my own 2nd hand cars...I have tried to weigh up the odds, The cost of running a old 2nd/3rd hand car as apposed to renting a new car, I love the new car thing but things have deffinatly changed with motability, They have greatly reduced the amount of suitable cars with respect to how much I can afford for an advanced payment for the car that meets my needs, I need an AUTOMATIC, I also need a car that is very easy to get in and out and also with plenty of leg room, Unfortunatly I cannot afford the very expencive A/P For anything 100% suitable, So I would have to accept a car that would be uncomfortable for me to get in & out to keep within my budget... -
A year with the Jaaaaag 12 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Driving wise its superb, it's so quiet you wouldn't know the engine is on and you feel completely detached from the outside world as you drive around. Put your foot down and it does growl and shift pretty quickly and the automatic gearbox is much more intuitive and sensible than offerings from French carmakers that I've experienced. The steering is very good, road holding is the best I've experienced and the somewhat costly set of Primacy tyres I had fitted are excellent for grip while maintaining a very comfortable quiet ride (note I do not work for Michelin in any way, this is not a plug Avant). -
Clutch warranty claim - Maker will dispute 20 May 2012 (Forum)
I have a car with a semi-automatic gearbox. It's a Jan'07 model so well within the manufacturer's warranty period. I have posted previously about the very snatchy nature of the clutch take-up and finally after a number of attempts I have got my service garage to admit there is a problem with the clutch. -
Your thoughts on my possible car change 10 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Sub 8 seconds to 100kmh preferred and around 140MPH top end (I spend a lot of time in Germany and enjoy something with good autobahn abilities). So, here's what is being pondered (only automatics too as the wife cannot drive a manual vehicle). Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSFI vRS DSG Mondeo 2.0 petrol titanium X sport (or the 2.2 diesel) powershift, id that the ford version of the DSG? -
Jamie's got new wheels!! 28 Apr 2011 (Forum)
At the same time i bought that, my mother bought one, she has recently decided to go for something a bit smaller, so i sold my Focus which i was not inspired by, and have bought the 406 off her. Its a gorgeous motor, 01 reg in silver. 2.0 Executive Automatic. Petrol. My parents are the type of people who maintain cars to the letter, anything it needs, it gets and this has only done 36,000 miles from new, about 10,000 since my parents bought it. Absolutely spotless and they knew how much i missed my one when it got wrecked. -
Volvo XC90 (2002 - ) - I'm getting used to it! 9 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I am slowly getting to grips with it and in fact most of the issues I now have with it are down to the poor preparation by the supplying Volvo dealer. Like all diesel automatics, it need to wake up and stretch in the morning and the fuel consumption is dreadful at that time and also stuck in traffic and city streets at any time. You can't quiet see the fuel gauge drop but the average on the trip meter certainly does. -
Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 01 2.0 Indicator stalk replacement - Haynes manual 19 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Then simply pull the switch straight off the column. The connector is a multipin jobbie which breaks automatically as the switch is withdrawn. Refit is a direct reversal of removal, but align the screw holes on the switch first to ensure the multipins line up (you can't see them at all so you have to do this blind.
