VSC/TRC - No 17. power door lock - Yes 18. keyless entry - No 19. power windows - Yes 20. toneau cover - Yes On the premium addition 1. automatic air condition - No 2. smart entry (boot and doors) - No 3. push start - No 4. rain sensors - No 5. dusk sensors - No 6. electric retractable, heated door mirrors - No 7. electrochromatic rear view mirror - No 8. front fog lamps - No 9. high gloss 15" alloys - No 10. darkned bi-halogen headlamps - No 11. chrome rear light clusters - No What really scared me were the rear seats - no boot therefore no crumple zone and the rear seats didn't look to be constructed in a manner which makes you safer in a rear end smash (unlike the smart seats) - rear seats almost touch the rear window.

  • Audi A4 (1995 - 2000) - Possible purchase. What do you all think? 15 Dec 2007 (Forum)
A local bombsite trader (think of a bad-tempered Turkish Bellboy without the wit) has a RHD Audi A4 Avant that he´s taken as a PX, and is going to find difficult to shift. No market for RHD here in Germany, and it´s still on UK plates. It´s a late ´96 2.6 V6 automatic, fairly high spec. Bad bits: undocumented 115k miles, no service history at all (book is missing). Needs new tyres, plus I think the thermostat has gone as it didn´t move off 60 deg during my test drive, the panel under the engine is cracked.
  • Volkswagen Golf V estate (2007 - ) - - first impressions 29 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Gearchange is a delight - I went for a manual partly to save money partly as I can control the revs and minimise turbo lag. DSG is good, but I still think for a diesel automatic you need 2.5 litres or more. Ride / handling compromise excellent - much better than any of its predecessors, especially the lovely direct steering response. For normal driving I don't think it's inferior to the benchmark Focus or even a BMW.
  • Prius v. diesel Verso 12 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Silly spoiler and steeply-raked rear window makes rear vision difficult. Nasty foot-operated parking brake. Verso - More lively than the Prius: automatic available only with the petrol version. Diesel engine quite subdued, much quieter than the B-class (faint praise!). 6-speed gearbox (excellent dash-mounted gearlever) so very good on motorways.

Could I legitimately claim for storing it on my own property, a garage of course, would levy a charge automatically? Anything else I could claim? Finally should I send the bill for uninsured losses directly to the idiot, 'uninsured' implying my insurance company would not wish to know? ---------------------------------------------- One mans junk is another mans treasure
  • Small car, really sensible advice needed 10 Jul 2003 (Forum)
All round value for money - purchase price and insurance plus running costs. Neither of our cars are at all suitable for her as they are both large automatics. He has a company car but commutes by train. I have a car and do less than 10,000 miles pa - so our costs are already quite high, and our cars get little use. She is a 19 year old, unemployed student, who will be commuting by train for at least a year from September, so her mileage will be extremely low.
  • BMW 5-Series E61 Touring (2004 - ) - 25,000km report BMW 530d 9 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I actually think this level of fuel efficiency is amazing for a 1 1/2 ton six cylinder 240bhp car with an automatic gearbox. The first service is looming in a few thousand kms. Up to now the engine has consumed around 1 litre of mega-expensive long life oil. I am always a bit uneasy about these long life service intervals offered by BMW, but as long as they are happy meeting any potential warranty obligations then that?
  • Smart ForFour Softouch 1.3 2005 - Buying a Used Car 120miles Away - Fault Repair 17 Aug 2022 (Forum)
I admit, I probably am an awkward buyer for someone spending less than most, but I have bought cars from dealers for less & been ecstatic, & spent more only to be disappointed. Problem is, there aren't many of these cars around (particularly not automatic which is a necessity for us), so I keep wondering if it's a worthwhile risk as the car may be a gem - just not a great business selling it. Here's the email chain with my queries, & the response: "Hello I'm interested in buying this car, but I live in Andover & am considering using your delivery offer.

  • Not yet sure - New Purchase 10 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Hi everyone, Just looking for a bit of advice. Looking to upgrade my current car, currently driving an Automatic Juke Nismo RS and in need of something bigger due to my family growing.  I want to have something that is shifty, but also reliable and relatively decent on fuel as my Nismo RS does about 33MPG on a good day!

  • Volkswagen Golf - '11 Golf MkVI DSG Petrol CAXA - timing chain/cam? 22 Jan 2020 (Forum)
I'm buying a 2011 Golf Mk VI DSG Automatic Petrol CAXA engine with about 55K miles on the clock.  Serviced regularly at an independent garage every year since 2013 at approx 7K intervals. Last service at 52K in 2019. Drives smoothly though I've only done a mile or two in a test drive.

  • any - X marks the motorway lane on a hot day 11 Jul 2018 (Forum)
I didn't notice if the two gantries we passed had cameras but did wonder if red X lanes might automatically trigger photos of transgressors, i do hope so.   Aside from that, it was extremely hot which might help explain the two child like drivers who managed to have a right tussle, due to some perceived slight at a slip road from what i could see, their undertaking and cutting up of each other carried on for about 3 miles on the A45 Northampton section (as i was in the lorry i saw most of this performance of half wits doing what half wits do), with presumably child like rantings at one another when they got side by side at the same speed for some times several times, thankfully more mature heads were in abundance in other vehicles who gave these two fools a wide berth so if they did make a mess of it hopefully only those two would be involved.

Oh and if you sell via A/T or online auction sites ...be aware that I automatically ignore  all adverts saying 1 mile or 50 miles etc.  If you cannot be upfront about the mileage then I don't want to do business with the likes of you.  I hope more of us punters do the same.
  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 04 CDTi Easytronics gearbox problems 17 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I am also considering converting the box to a manual change or replacing the whole unit with a manual setup. It seems that the main differences between this box and a normal manual box are the automatic clutch and gearchange module and a slight difference in the actuation of the hydraulic clutch. Any help with ideas or contacts who might have some knowledge and advice would be very much appreciated.

This means the 20mph label is close to the 30mph mark (Audi only show every 20 mph) Why not have the speedo reading to 120 then automatically switch to the digital readout for anyone using the autobahns? Apart from this the new A4 is a world away from the old model.

I was not aare of any solenoid that moved any arms/levers on the pump but then I never cranked it and watched at the same time.. Q? Does the throttle arm automatically open when cranking? Anyone got some pointers as to how we can diagnose the problems, please give me check list that I can pass on. If we check it in a local Peugeot dealer what things should we tell the service-manager?
