n/a - PSA - Fiat - Chrysler link up. 23 Dec 2019 (Forum)
As announced in October, Carlos Tavares, 61, chairman of the PSA board, takes operational management for five years of the new giant, which becomes the world's 4th largest manufacturer (8.7 million vehicles per year), behind Volkswagen, Toyota , and especially the Renault-Nissan alliance, which he left in 2013, in the middle of a showdown with Carlos Ghosn. He finds himself at the head of a portfolio of 14 brands: the five of the PSA group (Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel Vauxhall) to which must be added Alfa Romeo, Abarth, Fiat, Lancia, Maserati, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, RAM. -
Ford Mondeo Mk3 2.2TDCi - Car Temp Gauge fluctuating 28 Oct 2018 (Forum)
So, Having had a terrible experience with a Nissan Pathfinder and head gaskets and cylinder heads, I tend to be a little more aware of where the temp gauge is on my Mondeo. Today on the way back from a fairly long trip, I noticed that when the car was at low revs, the temperature guage dropped to almost 60 (the temp gauge has 60 at the cold end and 120 at the warm end). -
New MOT regime press coverage 16 May 2018 (Forum)
Finally the new MOT regime is getting some press coverage. I was talking with my mate the senior technician at Nissan who reckons as many as 500,000 extra cars will come out of circulation in the next 12 months on top of the normal quality of cars that are disposed off. He reckons his dealership will change their policy from only buying cars up to 7 years old (with the odd exception over 7 years if it’s mint) to 4 years for diesels. -
Pick Up Insurance - commercial vehicle?? 10 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Friend of mine who does a lot of scramble bike reading recently swapped his 2 year old VW Alahambra with trailer for Nissan 4x4 pick up to allow him to access some of the more inaccessible places he and the bikes go rather than scrape the sump, get towed out of a mess etc. in the VW. So one phone call to insurance company later "sorry sir this is a commercial vehicle we don't insure them". -
Gruff sounding engines 6 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I can hear a chug-chug-chug noise from the engines. Can someone explain what is going on? I curently have a Nissan Primera 1.8 (2003) model, but the engine despite the age, is still smooth compared cars which are 10 years younger. When I rev my car, I don't feel the vibrations back in the cabin. When I sat in a Qashqai, the engine was much smoother. -
Lti tx1/2 or 4 - Black cab LTI TX1/2 as a private car 28 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I live just ouside of Manchester now and wondered if anyone knew where to purchase a black cab from. What should i look out for? I heard the nissan engines can easily do 500,000 miles if looked after. The plus i've got 2 young kids, so buggies etc would be really easy, my old man is in a wheelchair and its a pain getting him about in my current motor, and I really want one! -
Mazda 3 auto - Which smaller car for my pensioner parents? 5 Aug 2014 (Forum)
They've actually had some fairly snappy cars in the past (2.5L BMW and Golf V5) and while they're not looking at anything on that level now, I suspect that anything less than a 1.6L would probably be too sluggish, especially given that an auto box is a necessity. Budget is £8000. So, they're currently weighing up the Kia Venga, Nissan Note and VW Polo, as well as the Mazda 3 and (my suggestion) the Ford C-Max. Any robust opinions out there? -

BMW 116d - Purchasing new car vs. Car Dealer 17 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Hi, I am new to this forum and Id like to say hello to all. My name is Patrick and I want to change my current car Nissan Qashqai '09 for BMW 116d. I am confused on how Im suppose to handle this thing where of course I want to get as much money as I possibly can for my current car. -
is this normal practice? 3 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I went to a large Nissan dealer knowing exactly what I wanted to buy (used). Throughout the salesman kept asking if I wanted a test drive, I politely declined as I have already driven one at a different dealer. Thinking we would get into the talking about knocking a few quid off, throwing in a few extras he said he could not sell me the car if I did not test drive an equivalent. -
KIA Venga - WOW Kia quality has shot up 10 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I cant see how Kia can be making that much profit, they must be aiming for expansion of sales over expansion of profits for the time being. Lets hope they dont make the mistake of Honda, Toyota and Nissan and think they are more important than they are and start selling their cars at a premium. -
Hyundai i20 - Hyundai i 20 10 Nov 2010 (Forum)
It seems that the motoring press are raving about these as a reliable and cheaper alternative to a Honda Jazz or a Toyota Yaris, and a lot nicer looking than a Nissan Micra. Also there is the five year warranty to consider, the dealers have a good reputation, the car is far more modern and nicer to drive than the Getz and economy and performance are up there with the best. -
Citroen C3 (2002 - 2009) - 03 1.4 Engine Stalls on change down 9 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I do not know if this is related but she also makes a tapping / knocking noise when accelerating at low speed, which seems different to the usual diesel knocking noise. Our last car was a basic Nissan Micra '94 1.0L, so we are not used to all these modern things, 'Partner wishes we stuck to the Micra, tending to agree!' as new spare key cost more than we got for the Micra! sob.... -
Returning to UK with new baby. What car for £6K? 26 Mar 2010 (Forum)
On the bigger side of things, I've looked at Ford C-Max/Focus estate. On the smaller side of things, the Honda Jazz or Nissan Note. If anyone had any suggestions, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks for reading! -
RAV4 or XTrail diesel auto 15 Nov 2009 (Forum)
At the moment I have a 2003 diesel XTrail which I'm well satisfied with, although minor quality problems at 6 1/2 years and 130000 km are making me wonder if Renault quality isn't rubbing off on Nissan. When I tried the XTrail, I was surprised to find that the transmission didn't change into 6th until 110km/h. Can anyone tell me if this is a 'smart' box which will learn that I have a very light right foot and go into 6th at a lower speed? -
Some new models seen today 11 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Dash totally redesigned. Fiat Bravo - looks like a slightly larger Grande Punto. Daihatsu Materia - If you like the Nissan Cube this is for you with no grey import problems - I think it's hideous! For Christmas I'd like a commercial mulcher to attach to a John Deere and 10,000 acres of forest to go at. The demo of this thing showed it taking 6 10 foot length telegraph pole diameter trunks at a time and turning them to pulp in seconds!! -
Can you recommend a suitable car? 30 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Before somebody recommends a Discovery or Shogun, Range Rover, Land Cruiser, etc...they all fail on headroom. Bizarrely, a friend of ours has a 'Y' registration Nissan Micra and I can fit into that with headroom to spare. There must be a 'family-sized' car that also has extra head-room? Regards -
Which cars cause fewest complaints? 13 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Thinking particularly about reliability, I have the impression that (looking at Backroom threads rather than JD Power etc) the makes which cause fewest complaints seem to be: Subaru Citroen (plenty of ink spilt over French cars, but nearly always Renaults and Peugeots) Vauxhall Mazda Skoda The national surveys usually put Honda, Toyota and Nissan near the top, but Backroomers seem to have been casting doubts on these reputations recently. Maybe DD can help as he seems to have an amazing memory for what has been posted here. For me, I do 20,000 a year so need a diesel (knocks out Subaru) and something that holds its value (Citroen and Vauxhall don't look good on this front). -
Car Makers & Build Quality!! 6 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I've been tempted to change to an S Max 2:5 Titatnium or somehting that sounds like that, but at the end of the day, I fear I may be a badge snob? BTW - Mazda.Toyota, Nissan, and a few others fit in with the above -
a cunning plan? 13 Jun 2006 (Forum)
She does, however, totally want air con in both cars. So, question 1: Shortlist for £1k bangers: volvo 850, v40, 940, toyota carina E, honda accord, nissan almera, primera, QX, mazda 626, MB old E class. Sound ok? Other suggestions? Chances of the AC working in cars this age? Question 2: will sporty japs be much cheaper in oct/nov? Will there be any about?
