  • fiesta zetec rattling noise 21 May 2003 (Forum)
Very hard to see where it is coming from but boyfriend seems to think it is coming from somewhere in the central console area i.e. where radio, heater controls are but would be grateful for any insight. Car is obviously under warranty (bought from local Nissan dealership with their full approved warranty). Any ideas???!!
  • Golf IV Not Starting First Time Bleeping 29 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Can anyone help please: Golf IV 1.6 (8V) 1998 When trying to start from cold, engine turns very slowly and fails to start first time (or second, or third time) as if battery is rundown. Bleeping noise eminating from the rear of the car. Radio code and resetting of clock then required. Eventually car will start after trying a few more times, perhaps by giving the starter motor a rest for a few seconds. Can then restart engine as normal once it has idled for a few seconds.
  • Imported Golf V5 6 Mar 2002 (Forum)
The specification quoted is as per the UK but doesn't have the automatic windscreen wipers (which I can live without), fitted CD / radio unit or alarm (but does have the immobiliser). They will upgrade the warranty to three years from the basic manufacturer warranty for 500 quid. The savings are impressive compared to shopping around and haggling at the local VW garages.
  • old jag heater fans 31 May 2001 (Forum)
It does the same even on "auto" ie: it starts very fast and gradually slows till the right temp is reached but never goes below the MED speed. This is annoying and totally spoils listening to the radio etc. Does anyone know how to fix this without spending a fortune? I presume it is computer controlled..... I had thought of putting a resistance in the feed to the fan making MED the equivalent of low and HIGH the equivalent of med.
  • Mobile phones 31 May 2001 (Forum)
There are records for accidents caused by smokeing ,sleeping, eating, using a mobile phone without hands free, adjusting the radio or cd and all the the other reasons but hands free has a clean bill of health. This women will probably go on to convince some government goon that the use of phones in cars is against the law.And then we have another law to contend with that was brought in without any consultation and without any research.
  • Volvo XC90 (2002 - ) - I'm getting used to it! 9 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Very comfortable seats, excellent driving position partly marred by thick pillars, and easy to use controls on the steering wheel. The radio volume and cruise control switches control these devices in a more defined way than the Outback. The kids love it; the high position, quietness of the interior and quality radio. My daughter loves her integral booster seat, which gives her a superb view out front.
  • Chrysler PT Cruiser (2000 - ) - Tried one in the USA. 19 Jul 2008 (Forum)
) we had to carry that on the back seat. Delightfully thoughtful feature was a 150+ channel satellite radio - Blue Collar Radio - superb American humour. Even had BBC R1 and the World Service so I could keep track of UK news and more importantly the cricket. Other US impressions - roads are quieter than the UK in general - poor state of repair and the cambers were odd, loved following the road numbers as directional signs were challenging - maintaining my belief that we do signs very well in the in he UK - very well.
  • Accord Tourer '06 facelift review 13 Sep 2006 (Forum)
It also looks terrible on the small wheels IMHO. Other than that, I don't personally find the volume adjustment on the radio to be useful, I still find myself adjusting it. The automatic lights are quite nice, but I overrode them several times. I'm very glad I didn't spend the extra money on the satellite navigation system.
  • Modern Signs Are Rubbish! 19 Feb 2006 (Forum)
The RAC Foundation's Edmund King added: "We've all been there, driving along, a little bit lost, trying to follow directions in an unknown area. "We will actually turn the radio down and tell passengers to be quiet and we do this instinctively to avoid information overload. "Let's make the signs clearer, let's make them plainer, let's have only the signs that we really need."
  • Does anybody want a car to just be a car anymore? 30 Dec 2023 (Forum)
We bought a Skoda Scala before Christmas, and as a car I absolutely love it, but this screen is so distracting and you have to 'see' the screen to access the basic controls whereby in an older car you could usually grope around for the buttons to change the radio etc whilst keeping your eyes on the road. I am starting to find the sheer weight of this tech overwhelming (and I am a software engineer by trade), and I'm longing for the basic dashboard and car of twenty years ago.
  • Volvo V60 - avice on changing cars 3 Aug 2021 (Forum)
My husband is torn between a Volvo V60 but he would like a diesel automatic as he commutes 1-2 hours per day for work.He would also like as many features as possible such as DAB radio, heated seats, sat nav etc. ideally he wants it under 60,000 miles and a bit newer than his 2013 car. He also likes the Skoda Superb and the Skoda Octavia nd also the Mazda 6's. Our budget is under £13,00 but we could push a but more if needed.
  • Honda Jazz Trade in question - Car Trade in Question 24 Jul 2020 (Forum)
But the engine and transmission are like new. I have about 1500 Euros of repairs to do to fix a replace a broken rear bumper, radio mast and drivers mirror. These are minor part replacements. Those repairs I will do regardless if I sell the car or not. My question is: If I trade in the Jazz for the HR-V is it worth taking to a bodyshop to clean it up before sale/trade in or is it better to leave as is.
  • Hyundai i30 petrol - Great car except for..... 15 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Took delivery of brand new i30 hatchback Premium SE this week - lovely car with kit that would cost more than £10k extra on an equivalent Golf etc and lots of radar assisted safety gear. Two things stand out that disappoint though: the radio only operates for 2 minutes after the engine is switched off which is very inconvenient when I'm waiting for my daughter to finish her piano lesson! And the 'Auto Hold' brake function has to be enabled manually for every journey which is a pain as the parking brake is electronic and my wife forgets to set it at start up.
  • Any - Touch screens such as Tesla 18 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Many cars have sat nav touch screens which cannot be operated whilst moving for just this reason, however, I have a sat nav like this but I still can and have to operate the radio by touch screen and of course newer cars like Tesla everything appears to be operated from the touch screen alone. I wonder why In general aircraft tend to use buttons and switches to control systems even though they use huge display screens fo information, with a manual switch you feel and see the setting and in many case these can be operated by feel without averting vision from the view ahead, I also understand that some people with callussed fingers due to work can have problems activating touch screens?
  • Ford Orion audio joystick and other 80s oddities... 7 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Thank you SO much, Argos and Tandy, for making that all so affordable to so many people 30 odd years ago! So what ever became of... CB radios? Clip-on louvres on the rear windows (mostly on Ford Capris)? Electric aerials? Beaded seat covers? Air horns that played Dixie? Green "Wayne and Mandy" sun strips on the top of the screen? The venerable Krooklok?
  • Nissan Micra - Replacing original head unit on 55 plate 7 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I have removed the original CD/radio from my daughters Micra, which was easy enough after watching the YouTube video, and have fitted a JVC unit in it's place. What I want to know, is besides the ISO connectors there is also another connector that won't connect to the new unit.
  • Car Delivery waiting times 2 May 2012 (Forum)
However I don't have it yet and the dealer is giving me alot of excuses and no information, in fact I have to repeatively bug them to get any information out of them at all. The moment the money was in the account its been radio silence. I only ordered one extra accessory (a drivers arm rest). I was told that they didnt have it in stock and had to order it (bullocks in my opinion) and that the French holidays was causing delays (also bullocks).
  • Nissan Primastar - Power steering pump confusion 20 Jun 2011 (Forum)
The reconditioned pump that I was sent works fine except for the fact it's so noisy I can hardly hear the radio! I am sending it back and have ordered a re-manufactured one from someone else (who also said it seems strange as he's never heard of a 1.9 engine taking the bolt-on pulley) . However, before I have it fitted, I thought I'd ask if any other Primastar owner has had the same thing crop up?
  • VW Polo MK3 - Central Locking VW Polo '99 12 Apr 2011 (Forum)
The fuse for my central locking, radio and cigarette lighter recently blew and upon trying to replace it, the new one also blew. I am guessing that the central locking on my polo is to blame, as it is the only one which is running whilst the ignition is off and the second fuse blew in that state.
  • Ford Focus Estate 2002 - Ford Focus Speedo problem 21 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Along with this however I have a couple of other symptoms that may or may not be linked to the other symptoms. They are that the cd player works fine but the radio only displays the station name, no sound comes out of the speakers. Along with this, when I do a manual sweep of the front wipers they will stop part way across unless I hold the stick untill they get back to the bottom of the window.
