Speed hump muppets. 11 Jun 2008 (Forum)
The speed humps where you have 3 individual humps across the road seem to be getting more popular. These work fine when when the road is clear and you can drive over the hump on your side of the road, often without having to dip below the speed limit. The problem comes when there are parked cars on either side of he road and to make smooth progress you need to drive over the centre hump in the road. -
A Fair Cop or was it? 2 Nov 2007 (Forum)
A policeman who told Central Scotland Police he had drunk "a bucketful" when stopped for driving a damaged car has been banned from driving. Douglas Reid, 48, who is due to retire from Strathclyde Police, was given a 15-month ban at Falkirk Sheriff Court. Reid was stopped in Shieldhill, near Falkirk, in the early hours of 16 December, 2006 by officers who noticed extensive damage to his Honda Accord. -
Steering while stationary 30 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Certainly it tends to be drilled into learner drivers. But I strongly suspect that the reason is driving schools fear the damage that will be caused when learners do this while the n/s front wheel is graunched tight against a high kerb. Otherwise it has to be irrational, since clutch abuse is winked at by driving instructors. -
Changing A 1998 Ford Fiesta Headlight 1 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I need to change the passenger side headlight bulb on my 1998 ford fiesta zetec 1.25. It turns on to parking light OK but when I turn it up to my main driving lights it stays on the parking light. If I switch on full beam then it works OK. Ive bought a new driving light bulb but I cant for the life of me figure out how to get to the headlight housing as there is all sorts of engine chassis and tubes etc in the way. -
Taking the car to France, advice please 25 Apr 2007 (Forum)
OUTWARD: It will just be my 11 yr old son's treat (and mine!) without the girls, so I thought it would be good to make a driving trip of it for him (the girls would want to fly). Would it be best to go via Shuttle to Calais, then drive from there, or better to put the car on a train (at Calais?) part of the way south? I assume my TomTom will be up to the job. -
Causing death by dangerous driving 26 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The second driver did not stop, he did not hit the person that had been hit by the first car. He is also being charged with causing death by dangerous driving, and pleading not guilty. What is the minimum sentence that is likely to be handed out by the court. Thank-you for your thoughts on this tragedy. p.s. No drugs or alcohol where involved by any of the drivers. -

Fitting 100/80w headlight bulbs 4 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Following the sale of my (surplus) Legacy, my only transport is a 1997 VW Transporter, and having relocated to rural North Yorks a lot of my driving is on unlit moorland roads with the occasional wandering sheep. I have always found the standard bulbs feeble for such driving, (previously I always drove the Subaru at night) and have just bought some 100/80W H4 bulbs for improved forward vision. -
Tailgating a learner 13 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I mean - what is the point? What is the point? The learner was driving fime anyway. But it just makes me despair, where is the common courtesy, the decency, the manners? I'm sure it must be a damn good chuckle for somebody - but I don't want people doing that to my kids when they're learning to drive. -

I have checked the following: Air Filter Vacum Hoses Replaced the fuel filter fuel feed okay The car drives fine and there is no stuttering whilst driving, but just plays up on idle. -
Cutting accident rates 21 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Root Causes: We're not putting enough effort into finding accident blackspots and eliminating the problem. Nor into the fact that many motorists drive too closely together. We could drive people behaviour via the recertification route. Based on the airline experience, this could slash accident rates? -
Mercedes 190e 2.0 auto idling problem 24 Apr 2005 (Forum)
When it is re started it idles fine (although sometimes "hunting up and down" but not stalling - then drive off to the next junction and the revs will drop below 500rpm on final approach to a junction and then stall again. If the car is on the driveway and idling it is fine (apart from sometimes hunting) and it will tick over when engaged in "drive" or "reverse" - it is only when actually driving the car that it stalls. -
What is dripping? 20 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Was picked up by the dealer and returned later in the day, cleaned, valeted etc and without costing me a penny (apart from the upfront cost of buying the car of course!). Great, but... Yesterday was the first time I'd moved it in daylight, and our new drive was covered in what appeared to be oil. I at first assumed it was engine oil, but on closer inspection the car is dripping something from all four corners (dripping from suspension behind the wheels) which doesn't feel oily itself but seems to contain grease/grime within it and this has seriously stained the drive. -
Is it me or is it the car ? 14 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I havent noticed the same problem with right hand turning eg roundabouts and I am starting to loose confidence in this 'ultimate driving machine'. I am not doing anything that my 1.8t Golf Gti wasnt more than capable of and I'm not being stupid - maybe enthusiastic ! Car: BMW120d, RWD, Sports suspension, Run flat tyres. It occurs to me I am now driving a RWD car with a heavier engine upfront along with run flat tyres which, to use a racing analogy feel like a very hard compound. -
Doctors Dilemma 27 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I wonder how many people, particularly those whose ability is deteriorating with age are continuing to drive knowing full well they shouldn't? -
Putting things into perspective ! 7 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Some people have no choice in the matter and their fate is in the hands of others. Think on everyone. Drive safely, love your families/children and be considerate to others at all times. -
Fuel Consumption Peugeot 307 18 Jan 2004 (Forum)
If I drive generally at 60-65 and never go above 70mph I just about achieve 48-49mpg. I have not been using cruise control. I don\'t think it\'s my driving - my previous car was a 306 DT and that achieved 50 mpg and their extra urban claim was 54 mpg. -
Low Fuel Consumption 29 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I have been keeping a check on the fuel consumption. I am doing between 32 and 35 mpg. Its a 1.4 CL 4 Speed. I drive about 20 miles a day (in and out of work), most of which is on dual carridge way, some of which is up hill. don't drive it that hard, but I don't hang around if you get what I mean. Is the fuel consumption normal? -
Audi 80 TDi-electronic probs 19 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I was due to part exchange the car on Monday so I went away for the weekend thinking it would be our last drive together. 145K and I have never had any problems with her - FASH etc. Typically, when I was away she decided to rev to 2100rpm and then cough and splutter like she wasn't getting enough fuel (I had to drive from devon to Reading at 55mph!) -
Volvo test drive 20 May 2003 (Forum)
Hi all - I'm off to a test drive an M regn. Volvo 960 3.0CD estate later this week. Apparently it's mint (they all say that don't they), has a full Volvo service history and has done 85k. Dark plum with beige leather interior, sounds nice.
